Proton Therapy- A Typical Day

- Here is my typical day receiving Proton Therapy for prostate cancer. I chose Proton Therapy over surgery or standard radiation treatment. I am not a doctor but after much research I could see how Proton Therapy offer many benefits over other treatments. Getting zapped by protons is painless but not without side effects. I will discuss those more in my next video.

Parris - You have to work on your sense of humor😁/😎 I'm going through the proton therapy journey now and have had a total of 5 consecutive prostate related treatments (with ~30 more needed) . You're experience is spot on with what I'm experiencing. The bladder challenge requires the most attention and having to adjust your psyche to program it to hold the output of urine takes some practice. The medication I'm taking has side effects that makes one feel tired, then the proton radiation also has that impact, and adjusting to that double whammy dip in energy is also a game changer. However, the process of the actual proton radiation therapy is literally painless. No injections, no pain, pretty smooth. I hope your recovery is going well. Steve
Thank you for sharing Parris!
Thanks Jim.
I genuinely love how detailed you describe things including sound effects! :-) Not only are you an excellent story teller, but I feel this can really help someone and their family going through the same thing who might be nervous about what to expect. It is very kind of you to so thoroughly share your experience and tips.
That's nice to hear! Thank you.
Thank you. This will help me know what to expect.
You're amazing, Parris! Also, you look fantastic!
Thanks Ross! 👍👍
Oh man... the spasm sensation is horrible when you gotta go! I always say I must have the bladder of a 3 year old because I feel like I have to pee ALL. THE. TIME. It comes on so urgently and it honestly feels like my bladder is vibrating if I have to hold it for long. Its so annoying too. Constantly on my mind whenever I go out somewhere, where the nearest toilets are. Theres no way I could drink the recommended 2 litres of water a day or I'd spend the entire day in the bathroom. 😅
It really does affect a lot of parts of daily life. My doctor at the Proton Center prescribed Flomax (tamsulosin) for me and it helps. Of course it has its own side-effects, so I take it just every-other-day. It is prescribed off-label for women as well- you might want to ask your doctor about it.
@@parristx doctors usually just class it as either part of fibro (irritable bladder) or part of autism/sensory processing. Interoception. But I'll ask again when I'm next able to see my doctor. Do you happen to know if any of the side effects are to do with the liver/kidneys?
Wow great description
Thanks Julie!
Here as always!!!!
I appreciate it! 👍👍
Can you define "expensive"?
Little markers that were implanted in the prostate? What the heck is that?? Kinda skipped over that part.
They are used for targeting the proton beam. They are made of ceramic and each is about the size of a grain of rice. I discuss having those implanted in this video (I also show a photo of them)- ua-cam.com/video/qfthRM6Iu50/v-deo.html
