  • Does Proton Therapy have to be so adventure filled?? Can't a guy just lie under a 220-ton cyclotron and be irradiated in peace? 😀 And those Proton Therapy books I mention by guys whose treatment was more sedate- they really are great and worth reading. Here are the two I read:
You Can Beat Prostate Cancer: And You Don't Need Surgery- amzn.to/3pSHStH
    and
Best Prostate Cancer Treatment: Proton Beam Therapy- amzn.to/3pF6N3H

I just noticed your videos today. I had 9 weeks of proton therapy at the MDACC proton center this past Dec/Jan. After some trouble having a full bladder at treatment time, I began drinking a minimum of 6 bottles of water from the time I got up in the morning until treatment time usually around 3 or 4pm. Since treatment was often delayed up to 2 hours I was offered the clamp in the first week. They just gave me one and a male nurse explained how to use it. I used it every treatment day clamping up about 45 to 60 min prior to my appointment time and it worked great to relieve the stress of worrying about it. (I could worry more about gas then!) There were a few times, I just HAD to loosen it and lets some out, but the major goal was to always have enough in the bladder to continue treatment.

It is good to hear that it isn't really such a big deal to use the clamp. And yes- the treatment delays!! You have it all nicely time to have a full bladder right when they call you back and then they announce that they are behind schedule. Some hard decisions had to be made 🤣. And the gas too- which was so hard to release while still maintaining the hold on the bladder. Ah, fun times.

Holy cow, who sat down and decided to invent such a device?! Thanks for the laugh. I'll have good thoughts for you and hope you get thru next week without the clamp!

“Jedi mind tricks” … “These aren’t the urinals you’re looking for” … omgosh priceless! But jeez, what an ordeal! I’m glad to see you’re keeping your sense of humor! You look great by the way! Continued prayers for complete healing!

You should call the device Judd, after the Beverly Hillbillies. Judd "Clamp"it. Ba dum bum. Do you practice holding it while not in procedure? The urine I mean. I hope and pray that when it's all done and over you are fit as a fiddle, or healthy as a horse. I must say in all seriousness, I admire and look up to, how brave you have been going through all of this. You can do this, I believe in you. Rob and Kim from Michigan

Thanks Rob and Kim! In the theme of Beverly Hillbillies it could also be a Mr. "Drys"dale!! When I do the 3+ hour drive between Austin and Dallas I do try and build up my endurance by holding it- the urine. And tomorrow is my last day of Proton Therapy treatment! It is supposed to take 4 to 6 weeks for the side effects (like the spasming) to wear off. I am still waiting for some of the side effects of the chemo to wear off (that can take 9 months)- so we will see!

@@parristx lol. They don't make shows like that anymore. hhmmmmm most people are probably like the Beverly Hillbillies?? Is that like Honey Boo Boo? My age is showing. Anyhow I'm glad tomorrow is the last day for that. Oh!!! Remember I requested for you to try Dr.squatch soap? I got some for Christmas from Kim, it smells great, not overbearing but one bar lasts about a week because it's so soft. I don't recommend it. I cut it into squares and put it in an old sock because I'm too cheap to buy more bars( at $12.00 a bar, ON SALE!!!). I will stick to my Irish spring. Can't wait to see what ya do next. Oh, say hi to your brother for me and give your family a big hello from us as well.

Clamp seems like a good solution. Some people wear it all day without issue.

Maybe try the clamp once just for the experience. It may not be as bad as you think it will be.

I am sure you are right- you can buy these clamps on Amazon and they are an option for dealing with incontinence. So they must be bearable. But I am back home now and finished my 9 weeks clamp-free!

It is mid-August now and I am continuing to improve from the radiation side effects. My post-radiation PSA number is down to 0.18 so my doctor is very happy. Thanks for asking!
