  • Sure, I know I can and usually do better paint jobs over on Instagram but the processes are much the same. This style is not for everyone, but I enjoy it and I hope you do too. If you want to copy this method, I fully believe you can get an entire gang, squad or army painted in no time and stop thinking about your pile of shame. Just get it done!

Something you can do to protect the contrast paints before adding the streaking grime is to paint on a layer of varnish. Gloss will aid removing more enamel and matte varnish will keep the most enamel due to the rougher surface.

Here is a tip because I see a huge amount of painting youtubers make this mistake when shooting videos: don't use a high contrast background like the one in this video because your camera auto focus will latch onto it. People keep holding the miniature up to the lens wondering why the sharp, striped background is in focus, now you know why. Use a background that has no detail, ideally a solid colour and ideally underexposed compared to the miniature. Or just use a plain black background

I'm not even sure I would say semi-slap chop. My understanding of that technique is to use dry brushing to develop contrast in the undercoat. I don't think you did that here. Not that it matters, because the results are quite good. I prefer the tan one because there is a greater depth of contrast.

@@stevepickford3004 Wow, this comment is so arrogant. :( Painting minis is not everyone's priority in the wargaming tabletop hobby, not everyone can spend hours and hours on painting one mini (job(s), family, other hobbies - need not be laziness!), and last but not least, not everyone has the same goals when painting a mini. Many just want some decent looking minis to play with on the table that are not gray but still are better than just base colours, and not everyone paints for display or to win a Golden Demon.
Luckily, there are many ways to enjoy the tabletop hobby - painting minis is only one part, and, as I said, might not be the most interesting for a lot of players.
I don't understand that there is so much hate for different approaches in our hobby, which should be fun for everyone, no matter what fun means for each of us. I don't get hurt when someone uses the approach shown in this video, and it is totally legitimate to do it that way and having fun playing with the painted mini. This way of painting doesn't affect yours in any way, so you can go on doing it the way you like - why don't you let others to it the way they like without bashing on them?
