2018 Wahoo Kickr - Key Fix Misapplied By Wahoo?

I opted to attempt the self-repair for the loose key way issue which Wahoo identified as the root cause of the noise issue with my third 2018 Kickr. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to apply the fix because it appears that someone, probably Wahoo, attempted the fix but did it wrong...

I can't believe you put the paper behind the screw, then attempted to mark the screw. Now I know why you've had so many problems....
IKR!!! What was I thinking?!?!?!?!?
I was thinking exactly the same 😂
how much do you tighten the screw of the wrench? because if it is too tight or loose it affects the power reading with the spindown
You can mark the tensioner plate around or right angle to the main bolt.
Which tools are required to get access to the Key?
Did you get any help when contacting Wahoo support? I have the same issue. thanks, Mark
Yes. They swapped the Kickr again.
I had one break and got a replacement that is now showing the same symptoms as the original. It's very frustrating to say the least.
Agreed. The worst part about all this is that Wahoo doesn't seem to have a handle on actually fixing the problems. It really worries me what happens when the warranty period runs out...
If it's often how they are repaired, it's a rather striking example of why people keep receiving broken ones.
Not awesome that it arrived broken, but to find out that they shipped me a unit with a botched the repair really takes it to the next level.
@@MissingRemote I had a similar problem. A returned unit that came and "broke" again within a month. It's just shoddy.
I agree. I think this is an indication of the "root" of the problem. A very poor resolution. At the same time, it's an indication of a poor design (in that area). The application of the bolt and washer should have no gaps and should've filled the area.. If there is a gap, then what is to say it won't work loose again? It's too easy to push in, which means it's easy to push out. The "key" should be longer.
So? Any update? I am planning to buy one but seeing this month-old video doesn't give me confidence.... I watched the CEO interview/Skype call with DC Rainmaker and was feeling good... alas...
They sent me another one (ua-cam.com/video/SMvU46h6IYU/v-deo.html). It works, for now, but this experience doesn't inspire confidence in the brand.
A silver sharpie is your friend for black bits :)
Guessing the person who previously installed the repair kit installed that key into the keyway backwards. The inside edge of the keyway slot will likely be curved with the same radius as that side of the key. The key probably has a flat side and a curved side and the flat side should be facing out. Will take a bearing puller to remove that pulley. Did tightening that bolt solve the issue?
I sent it back, and they provided a working replacment.
This is not the first time I've seen this. Someone else found the same problem, and they had an updated version too. They had to push the key in, I would've used a flat punch instead of a screwdriver though. ua-cam.com/video/bp9penpjYlg/v-deo.html

@@MissingRemote no insult ,sorry if offended you, it seemed to me that the instructions weren’t written very well, once again sorry👍👍👍
@@larrbrown7277 If I gave you the impression that I was offended, that was not my intent at all. I have no intention of becoming a bicycle mechanic, at least in the short term.
