The angle in the neck profile becomes a really beneficial feature with the 8 string models Allows the hand to wrap around and feel as comfortable as a 6 or a 7 string It’s one of the best feeling necks I’ve ever played
A solution to the stiff tuners is remove screws piece or just loosen it and spray it a few times with finger-ease. I had the same problem with the 2 NK models you and I talked about. It’s annoying but not unreasonable for the price.
One thing to also mention of the neck: it’s not wood. Fretboard is made of richlite, and the neck itself is micarta (richlite without a brand name). When I owned my GOC, I set the truss rod once and never had to change it again Now the one downside that I found with the body itself: there is only 1 5 way switch that will fit in the body. And that’s the 5 way from an Ibanez GEM. very hard to find, and expensive. The GOC body is just that thin. If you are switching pickups/going active pickups. It will be the easiest for you to keep a 3 way switch, but change out the volume pot for a push pull or push push to get your coil split.
The Richlite is a solid composite material and probably the most reliable material we have ever used as a fretboard. Just imagine a neck that already has carbon rods, adding it will make it superior. The Micarta is made similar process and use recycled veneers lined up vertically to simulate a quartersawn lumber. All necks are 100% from recycled material with eco friendly adhesives used to put them together. :D
I really like the fact that they make the burl veneer a feature. The forearm carve and the details around the upper horn are really nice in my opinion. I'd want to feel the neck before making any decisions, if I were in the market for one.
You (and others) have commented about the sharp edge on the Strandberg string locks (and how the string can poke out a little too far). How does the GOC do in this regard?
Love your vids and help providing us with quality info on these specialty guitars. I really want to choose my first headless for the comfort in practicing. Any reason you don't put the exact model you have on hand + links to the model in the description? Asking as I'm sure you have a good reason. Best regards
Yeah, the ‘nit-picky’ stuff is important too. When you use something daily for a period of time, that’s the stuff what annoys you the most. Good to see you guys listening!
I’ve talked with him about NK. So they’re on his radar for sure! I just got my first custom ordered ones a few weeks ago after playing Strandberg’s for over a year and then trying to switch to an Ibanez Quest for a few months. The neck shape is personally my favorite on the Ibanez. The NK is good too, and Strandberg’s Endur is great, but takes getting used too (specifically when playing in open position). This is all my opinion of course, however the Ibanez tuners and string lock are objectively more similar to a traditional guitars. So they’re easier to adjust (I also find my Ibanez is smoother than the NKs and Strandbergs I’ve owned.
@MrAustinMusic my NK has rounded jumbo frets and they feel quite different for my prs but I prefer them. The neck is also asymmetrical making it really comfortable.
I like NK but their communication has gone way downhill this last year. I don't think he has the patience to deal with the poor communication and slow response times. I would personally recommend Acepro instead. They're much better at what they do imo and they can finish a guitar in a timely manner while responding to any questions or concerns. My last NK took a year with horrible communication until I finally got them to finish it after requesting a refund. Acepro on the other hand made me 5 custom orders before that NK shipped. Both guitars are great but I personally like the fit, finish and sound of the Acepros. The Nk has a cool neck and nice included gigbag.
@@jonathanchaney6140 Yeah the NK neck is like a hybrid traditional shape mixed with the Endur neck design. Really neat idea, I still prefer a thicker C shape, like on my PRS Acoustic (the same as the SE 245), I believe it is the Patent Regular neck. That just a personal preference though, the neck should be personal.
I really enjoy these videos Andre. You did talk about getting a guitar custom made one day, which company are you going for? I have looked at Skervesen for a while, really pricey but they look good.
The only downsize for me about my GOC, and the reason behind I had to sell it, was the string spacing. I came from playing with a Banshee Elite from Schecter and when I got my GOC, I didn't understand why I wasn't able to play the same riffs as fast as I was able to. After to many struggles I found out that the string size is bigger than what I'm used to. So I sold it and get a Ceccarini Dullahan 7 headless, and is a gorgeous guitar. You should check them out. After that I got a custom DarkArts Necromancer 7 headless, that you should check that out too. Both guitars are amazing and from a minor brand but totally worth the money
@obicross it's not like you'll find it super wide but, at least for my, if you play some shreddy and quick and precise riffs, it starts to be notorious. But overall it's a very good brand. Guess that all it comes to what you are used to or if u are able to adapt. I couldn't hehe
They are wider than most brands but not much difference to be on the safe ground between players who have short fingers (like me) and some shredders out there with longer reach. If you ask, will it be obvious, yes but not so much
@@gocguitars totally agree, isn't that notorious not even at eye sight. But, in my case, I couldn't adapt, I played a little slower. Nonetheless, I recommend your guitars because I think they are really good guitars

Looks like a nice axe, but you're correct. At that price point and since its so no-standard shaped, it should really come with a gig bag. They have their own gig bag on preorder on their web site for 145, so I'm guessing they could easily add that to the cost of the guitar for under a hundred.

I'm looking for a headless and the GOCs are definitely interesting but I mean you gotta be able to buy them lol

I can't seem to find any significant price difference between these and the strandberg essentials maybe I'm missing something, there is very limited info online that I can find. Thanks!

Pretty sure the battery compartment is included as a cost saving method. Having some guitars with active pickups and some with passive means 2 body templates. Much cheaper at scale to just put the battery box in all of them. So whilst it may be good for those swapping to active in this model, I highly doubt it's foresight and instead is cost efficient due to economies of scale.
The battery compartment was added because most our buyers are modern guitarist / metal guitarist who are a huge fan of active pickups. Routing a body for a battery compartment is an added cost and potential finish risk if you will upgrade to Fishman's EMG etc. We try to save people that hassle.
Interesting enough. The AOneck is a Micarta wenge simulation. It looks like wenge even with the random wenge pits MINUS the possibility of getting splinters
I owned a 7 string GOC Illumina 2023 as my main guitar for over a year. The hardware is definitely a downside. Tuning is super stiff and adjusting intonation/string height is a pain. The headpiece is also not ideal but it works ok. Mine was also much heavier than expected. Probably close to 7lbs, which is much heavier than my Ibanez Q547 and the two Strandberg 7's I've owned in the past. Additionally, mine came with slightly microphonic pickups. This was only really noticeable at high volume, but I was using it for shows so I had to swap the pickups. The string spacing/fretboard width also felt unnaturally wide on the 7 string for me. It almost felt like an 8 string and it made big stretches harder. Despite all of these things, it was still a really solid guitar for the price. Tuning stability was excellent, fretwork was excellent, and the neck profile was good (except for the width). I was pretty happy with the GOC and used to its quirks, but when I got my Ibanez Q547 I realized how much lighter and easier to play the Ibanez was, so I ended up selling the GOC. If I had big hands and wanted to down-tune often I'd probably have kept it though.
