I have an early 80's RS1000 That was loaded with Super 58's & they're such good pickups! I don't know if they're still produced the same way. I do know that with a killer Marshall monster crunch you can drop the volume down on the guitar then it's easier to get classic rock-ish tones.
Same! I wish I bought J’s signature Iceman back in the day. But I was in my teens when I saw White Zombie with the Ramones and later White Zombie with Pantera! God Damn those were good days but being a kid didn’t have the money for the guitar. If one pops up online now the price is stupid.
I would say the more traditional neck joint is actually really appropriate for this guitar, as it's supposed to be a reissue or at least inspired by the original Iceman guitars. They do make the Iron Label Iceman 7 with neck through joint so for that kinda guitar they can definitely do that :D
I saw Paul Stanley playing the cracked mirror version of this guitar in the 90s. It sounded beastly. I think he had a Duncan JB in the bridge. Ibanez just came out with the Paul Gilbert version too, it's just an upside down black Iceman with DiMarzio Air Classics and gold hardware.
Ibanez is really missing the nostalgia market that everyone else seems to be milking right now. A Japanese made version of this would slay in the $1800-$2000 range.
didn't know you were straight edge, let alone for that long. I took that route as well at the beginning of 2024. As I write this, it has been around 9 months, and in these months, I've had a far better time in life, and everything has been easier and more enjoyable
@ The star body has made a comeback for sure, I wish Ibanez would reissue the Destroyer X and Charvel would make some affordable Mexican built stars. The thing about the Iceman is it looks just at home on stage with Kiss, White Zombie, Steve Miller, System of a Down ect, I could even improve it fitting in on a country concert stage, it’s the only “extreme” shape that could look right in all genres, in my opinion it’s just as legendary as the LP, SG, Strat, and Tele but I really love Iceman so I’m biased I’d love to see an Iceman version of the new black and gold Paul Gilbert fireman.
I'm getting an iceman kit in a few days, this makes the wait even more excruciating lol! I have an old Ibanez super 70 pickup laying around that I'm gonna use.
My first "good guitar" was a 78 or 79 ICE 400, almost exactly like this one but with the more standard Ibanez headstock, 2 volume 1 tone and jack on the edge instead of the front. I wish I still had it, that configuration is super rare now
The last iteration of the Iceman called the ICT700 White or Black finishes that had a neck thru body construction, Mahogany and DiMarzio Deactivators. Gibraltar bridge w/string thru body. Also reverse headstock. They're harder and harder to find used as they were only $900 new over ten-fifteen years ago. Yeah, neck thru body and DiMarzio's better pickups.
Been a fan since seeing Paul Stanley with one. Bought mine back in the late 80’s. Got the damn guitar back then it was a one piece neck like my old arz RG550. It also came with a case back then, it wasn’t a additional cost like today…. Doing a show with my new band in a few weeks with those old Ibanez’s
I bought my Ice Man 420 at the same time that I bought my first Gibson SG a few months ago and I find myself picking up the Iceman more often, its an absolute riff machine and I love it but.... It doesn't stay in tune too well and I'm starting to consider upgrading the tuners but other than that the guitar is absolutely amazing :D Great review and I hope to see a follow up video sometime in the future talking about your long term experience with the Ice man 🤘
Iceman for life. I've got ict700x in white and black. It's both my cheapest guitars and my favorite to play on. I REEEAAALLLY hope Wes Hauch can get a signature, he sparked my love for the Iceman body shape
I could totally be wrong, but I think that might be the key to the tone. That j got in White Zombie with his ice man never noticed it before.Thank you brother
I play an IC-400 from maybe '95 and it has the output jack on the side of the body, I def prefer that. But man, that body shape just drives me batty, something about it is just so beautiful. Mine came with Ibanez INF pickups and they were fairly weak output so I swapped in Duncan SH-6s and it punches hard.
Before you decide on the pickups I would try tuning it to standard or drop D and then down tune it using a drop pedal or the quad cortex down to C# or Drop B. It would probably sound awesome. I've got a fender that absolutely growls when digitally down tuned. Might be a cool experiment.
I reckon you were spot on. I've had mine a couple months and found mine exactly as you did. Gotoh Lockers were first, Dylan pick ups are next, then a Floyd. I'll hang on to the pick ups though. They'll work well in something eventually. Cheers.
Lol dude you're such a nut. I appreciate that aspect of your content. Man I wanna give the Iceman a go sometime, such a cool looking body design. Edit: dude the new mic combo here sounds killer. Also, those pickups are right in line with my preference. Reminds me a bit of my Revstar standard w/HBs, which I freakin love.
You can always put a flat round E string might help that problem out if you can't get the intonation spot on but you can always get a spot on I might have to change the n u t out and tweak your Bridge always check your pickup height out to I'm sure you know this stuff but for anybody else out there
I had a PS120 that I probably shouldn't have sold. It was an amazing guitar. I like the flamey top on this one, although it should have a harmonica bridge and ebony fingerboard.
If I were Ibanez, I would've made these a reissue of the Iceman II (IC400) with the Harmonica bridge and master tone control layout. I would've also made it a part of the made in Japan Genesis collection and
My rare Dream guitar is also Ibanez, I want a Red Destroyer like Adrian Smith had in The Trooper video( I really hope you all know Iron Maiden) and the Blueburst ones he and Dave Murray had in the mid 80s. Just hard to find any with a Floyd now.
Wish they would make these in Black, i want a black Iceman without all the Paul Stanley bling on it. I bought the PS60 model a few years ago and removed all the chrome guards but it's just a very cheap feeling guitar
For that price that's kind of like finding a cool Epiphone tap for some reason just has a Mojo and you don't have to break the bank and you can solidify some cool riffing of course it wouldn't hurt to have those killer amps an killer cabs LOL
They are so cool... Yeah, they definitely sound different. I think I would personally swap them out though just for the sake of yeah... playing it more often. I would want it to sound the way I like and eventually, maybe unconsciously, I would leave it behind more than anything because OF the sound. It does look badass though... I've always kinda wanted one too.
I have a 6534 I thought it was just me because I don't like how any ceramic pickups sound. The funny thing is I got a guitarfetish P.A.F. in a cheap epiphone, sg, and it definitely sounds awesome.
Damn Kyle. This here is a great, no BS review. I wish Ibanez would stop playing around with all these weird woods and the red colored jatoba fretboards. Otherwise, this guitar sounds really good
I can hear Paul Stanley whining right now...'My guitair isn't an Iceman..it is a PS10.....or PS120.. They aren't the same'. hehe. I have always found it funny whenever anyone tells him that they like his signature Iceman, he has to tell them that it is a PS model. hehe.
Here I am a BLUES LAWYER sitting here with my PRS CUSTOM CORE WOOD LIBRARY all suited up on my way to sue someone checking this out based on a friend's recommendation to check this channel out and I'm in utter DISMAY. I'm here waiting to hear some CLAPTON style riffs but I hear none. WHY?!!?? Also, why no TABS so I can practice riffs and learn while watching???!!!!

@@pressman1788China is manufacturing the clones. Sometimes I see them on eBay & Ali Express.
these go for $$$$ now even in bad shape - will always want one but no way for what they bring now.
I need to get my hands on an ICJ100WZ
So much potential with the iceman shape.. need more models than whats currently available..
The Fireman that is Paul Gilbert's signature model is just an upside down Iceman, its different but kinda cooler
Ibanez need pointy guitars again beside the Xyphon or whatever.
@@KelticKabukiGirldesperately need the Scottie LePage xiphos signature to release
@Kiwaloayo I wish they had an X or Z style again

Ibanez is really missing the nostalgia market that everyone else seems to be milking right now. A Japanese made version of this would slay in the $1800-$2000 range.
J from White Zombie made this guitar badass. I wish he started another heavy band after White Zombie. He had a style all to himself and I loved it.

I was for like 7 years, 94-2001, Vegan a bit longer, Earth Crisis really had a lot more influence on the 90s than people realize.
Ibanez is stupid for not having an Iceman at all tiers of their guitars, its their coolest and most desirable shape, they would sell like crazy.
The Iceman is my favorite silhouette. Aggressive yet elegant
Whoa love it! Was always looking for the 1982ish Cherry sunburst version that had the Destroyer and Rocket roll
It’s the only guitar that manages the perfect balance between extreme and classic it’s an extremely classic shape.
Don’t forget Star bodies! When you see one, it’s like looking at 1979/80 but also 2046 at the same time.

Just wanted to say, Chop Suey music video is why I wanted one of these as a kid. Paul Gilbert is why I want one now.
Might have been bright in the room but the recorded tone of it with the 6534 was awesome!
Good stuff! I'm even more interested in this model now. I'm really curious about the twangier pickups.

Those knobs are called Ibanez Suregrip knobs, unique to Ibanez with their branding on the bottom
Actually tried one of these. It plays amazing.
Dude Iceman’s are AWESOME. I actually played one a couple times over the last year and they’re killer
If you liked the voicing of that pickup the Seymour Duncan 78 is another great option for that kind of sound in a lower output alnico 2 package
I got some Ibanez Firemans ..Firemen over the years. They all were great. I still alwys circle back to Les Paul Customs.
I'm not really an Ibanez guy... but I've always wanted an Iceman. Such a dope design.
Wow that was a killer lead at the very end there the dancing fingers on the fretboard couple of pick scrapes in there hehehe
I could totally be wrong, but I think that might be the key to the tone. That j got in White Zombie with his ice man never noticed it before.Thank you brother
I had a Washburn PS2000 in that same color. It was probably the most immaculate looking guitar I ever had, really regret selling it. Congrats.
Kyle this was entertaining as always. Dig the guitar. I’ve always had my eye on those Iceman’s. Thanks for the review. 👊🤨

Definitely gonna get one!! Think it’s a great modification platform too!
It is the Iceman it is the Iceman you could be shredding on thin ice with that and never go down

Be cool if you could find an Ibanez az520. Like the one that Jered dines use to play. I’ve always wanted to check one of those out
I wonder if they have some that were made in Japan at the Primo Factory from back in the day but that one doesn't sound too shabby
I Just bought this guitar in Antique Autumn Burst a few weeks ago. Best Les Paul you can buy for under $900.
It's the Paul Stanley guitar, and I saw an old Steve Miller video and he had one.
That intro! Lmmfao!

I have an IC420 in blue, and it's awesome.
Your presentation was soo funny. Good job.

I don’t know why when Ibanez released the Iron Label “Iceman” 7 string but never released a 6 string as well.
Right?! I said the same thing!
All the mentions of white zombie and none of Celtic Frost?!
UGHHH

How's the neck profile? I had a MIK IC400 in the mid-00's. I liked it but it had a really wide/flat shredder neck and had a tough time with it.
Oh, you answered that at the 18:00 mark. Herp derp.
I think another under the radar shape / guitar is the Schecter Tempest.
I'm a fan of that one as well! I had a Hybrid model that I still miss
I never noticed it before but it looks like a modified Explorer.
It sounds like those pickups would be great for people who use the tone knob. Don’t like the quack? Roll your tone knob down a slight bit.
the iceman is the best shape no doubt about that
