If you've ever seen the movie "The Red Shoes", or MGM musicals from the 1940s and 1950s, you'll see that dancers used to weigh considerably more than today's dancers. But they danced just as well as today's dancers.
Point your foot and look at it. Sickling is when your foot wants to curve slightly towards your other foot instead of straight out. That's not something you want because it can throw off your alignment en pointe, thus leading to possible injury. What you want is for your foot to point straight out, and almost feel like it's curving slightly away from your other foot (but not too much). I hoped this helped!
Love how I had this problem with my shoes and I had great ankles. I never really successfully could get into pointe with one leg off the ground…. I feel like my vamp is too long. 😒
I started to dance 3 years ago. I got my first pair of pointe shoes in my second year. I bought my first pair from a pointe shoe fitter. Then I needed a new pair. We did not have the money for the pointe shoes this time. So, I got them from someone else. They were entirely new. These pointe shoes feel pretty good, but I can't get all the way over en pointe!!!! I work on strengthening my feet but I just can't get over! please tell me what I can do. Thank you in advance!
Thanks for the Video. Although I've found my pairs now , it's always interesting to watch Pointe shies fitting. It's weird that now I can even dance in all the old shoes that didn't work for me before. The only thing that bothers me is that it used to be easier for me to dance on hard shank to get on box but now it feels awkward and sitff ...so now I prefer almost dead pair even its for Gisèle variation ... Heard most professionals use hard shank and soft shank is for beginners ...does it mean I'm weaker? But now I can do almost anything I can with ballet flats. Ugh really confused 🙄
Kay Shi most professionals actually use softer shanks ;) if you have the strength to support yourself in a dead pair, it probably means you’re actually pretty strong :)
Hi, my daughter was fitted for pointe shoes couple weeks ago. We came home with one shoe Nikolay 5XXX S and one Grishko 5XXX M . I am wondering if we got the like that by mistake or on purpose. And what is the difference if there is one.
Is it normal for the box to impossible to to get over unless your foot is parallel. I can’t get over the box in first because my foot can’t bend more than like 190 degrees and I think the fitter was trying to get me out of the store because she sent me out with the first pair that fit
i’m having a similar situation to the first girl! I’m currently in a really soft russian, and i can’t tell if it’s my foot strength, hyperbextension, etc that’s pulling me or if it’s the shoe? what do u suggest? thanks josephine

sounds like one foot has a "soft" shank and another has a " medium" shank... did you order 2 diff shank strengths for each foot?
What could the problem be if the box crushes the top of your big toe nail when trying to get up on pointe on one foot?
I feel the second girl was knuckling really badly in the new shoes. The line was not aesthetically pleasing at all.
Jen Simmons I think she was knuckling in both pairs of shoes. She needs a teacher to pay attention to that.
