    Mid Atlantic area has been crazy this year. During a wet Spring and early June had thick, lush fescue mowing every 3-4 days. Now it’s been very hot and dry, my last mow was 4 weeks ago and much of my lawn is dormant. It’s been at least 5 years since my lawn has browned in the summer. At least the pre-emergent I put down has kept the weeds at bay.

    I noticed a lot of seed heads as well in my new lawn. Even though I mow it at 5/8" to 3/4. They still hang around. Only brown in my lawn. Since I couldn't go any lower I found verticutting and/or grooming helped a lot. I've been doing it about every 2 weeks. I also think it helps with air flow to prevent fungus and the lawn from feeling sticky when it's hot and humid

      @@blaiseducdaumont1280 for me, its not the darkest green (more of a emerald green super turf II) I have a different type of TTTF in my backyard that gets dark (SnapBack) and I want to mow low and was considering going this route. But Rye seems to be the darkest next to KBG and gives me the option to mow as low as I want, so I’m going to experiment with Rye this time around.

    I don’t get it- you said you did the seeding in late September of last year, did that give the grass enough time to germinate and develop solid roots for winter? I’m torn between starting my aeration / overseed last week of August (to give new grass more time to mature before winter) or wait until highs are mid 70s… which can be as late as mid to late September. In MN, We will probably have frost by mid Oct. what’s the secret with this timing?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  Місяць тому +1

      If you have water I start in August when I can. This was late due to just not having enough time to get everything done and I was waiting for the drought to end but it never did so I had to water basically by hand to get it going

    • @Craig-ib7gk
      @Craig-ib7gk Місяць тому

      I had similar issues due to soil compaction. Was watering plenty but the soil was mostly repelling the water and it was just running off. Core aeration is ideal, but difficult in the summer in some areas. Check your soil 'hardness' with a depth probe (a long phillips-head screwdriver or an actual soil core probe). If the probe doesn't go in easily you have a compaction problem. Soil looseners like Ryans (or just baby shampoo at a rate of about 4oz per thousand) can help, but you may have to ride it out until fall when you can do a proper core aeration.

    • @mr.f8420
      @mr.f8420 Місяць тому

      Appreciate it. That’s what I suspected. I have a handheld core aerator from HD. I know a few spots it’s rock hard like 3” down. Other areas that have browned up the aerator goes in all the way. 🤷‍♂️ I have Air8 and plan on hiring a core aerator in fall. Until then I’m just hand aerating and watering plus applying Air8. I hit a rock on one spot that’s like 2.5” down. Not sure how I missed this when renovating. 😒🤦‍♂️
