It's so sad to see Lancia nowadays, just a shell of their former self. Many manufacturers have left their mark on Rally, but to me, Lancia stands above them all.
@@perfectman3077 The Impreza is a great car for sure, and a Rally icon, but the Delta would go on to dominate the sport like no other car before or since. And then there's the magnificent 037, the only rear wheel driven car to ever win a championship against a field of four wheel drives. An achievement to which the Rally God Walter Röhrl himself would make a significant contribution. Just pointing out: In the 1987 Rally New Zealand Possum Bourne came third driving a Turbo 4WD Subaru Leone RX, scoring Subaru's first podium in the WRC. Unfortunately such a car was not as extensively campaigned as the Delta, which also won that event.
That opinion is somewhat ignorant of the fact that all the 10 Lancia WRC titles was actually financed by Fiat. Lancia was just not a brand name worthy of further motorsport financing as they never delivered in showroom sales, it works much better as an Italian grandma's shopping trolley.
The gas tank of theToivonen/Cresto death car was punctured by a broken chassis tube, not a tree limb. A close look at photos of the wreck being recovered show this. The floor is folded most severely just behind and beneath Cresto's place. Bent and broken chassis tubes are visible. That was also what was officially reported at the time.
