I travelled LIV - NOR last year, and was pleased with the trains - they really thought about how to use the space in the units, and whilst the seat comfort in standard wasn't amazing, it's still better than a Bedford - Brighton thameslink commuter train of similar journey time. And the ride quality was smooth. Also appreciated their friendly customer service at LIV too. In my opinion, the best train operator in the UK.
Additionally I'm a long time user of your website, which has been invaluable to me for planning foreign travel. I'd just love to be able to make use of it again soon!

The Class 745 and Class 755 Greater Anglia Flirts built by Stadler do look really nice, modern, eco-friendly and very quiet. And the Class 720 Aventra are also very nice.

These FLIRTs are great, everywhere I've ridden on them they have been fantastic... Shame no other operators went for these on their intercity units, instead taking the cheaper (and now they are in service clearly crappier) IETs...

The tray tables look comically small for an intercity ride where I might want to use a laptop or a pad of paper on the way. Otherwise these trains look fantastic!

So I guess these will also be the new Boat Trains to Harwich? If so, you may need to make another superb video showing the whole trip? A nice problem to have I guess...

No, the video shows GA's new inter-city & regional trains. Their new suburban area trains are the Aventra class 720s, which I had a look at before boarding the Norwich train. The 720s will soon be running to Hartwich twitter.com/seatsixtyone/status/1401847827542777857?s=20

It intrigues me how Greater Anglia appear to have got things so right with the FLIRTs, but so wrong with the Aventras.

Well, it is a question of the manufacturer… There are manufacturers who laugh you out of the door when you want to order three units, and there are others where you are welcome…
FLIRT is one of the "modular" product lines by Stadler, which means that they have standardised components which may be adjusted to your needs.

Shocking that we still have non welded track on significant rail lines, how can we not managed to replace this in well over half a century of using welded rail in the UK, Johnson is talking about fantasies of reversing the Beeching cuts whilst still much of our railways is running on jointed track, with semaphore signals and track working practices from the 19th century.

I don’t know why the flirts aren’t used on every regional service in the UK. I understand money might be the problem however the operators like northern who have brought out their replacement for the pacer really should have considered these as they are much much better

I love train travel...far less stressful than road or air. What saddens me as I look at this video is that the train is practically empty. Why is that? Are the tickets too expensive? Are people staying away from trains during Covid 19? I would love to see the railways properly subsidised by the government so we could get people out of their cars and get these trains full.

    • @neilboulton9813
      @neilboulton9813 2 роки тому

@Fun Quay - If you read the statistics UK trains were moving more people than anytime since the the 1920’s, prior to the pandemic. So when you consider that was in the day when we had more rail lines than now and mass car usage and motorways were decades away that is pretty impressive numbers. So there are many people whose knee jerk reaction is to decry privatisation but it has certainly done a far better job of getting people off the road than BR ever did.

The Government and Unions have decided to designate trains as the most dangerous place on the planet. Yes this will be the same Union that is up in arms when services and jobs are cut due to a lack of patronage. However don’t worry a magic mask will cure all.

It's still a much smaller player than Siemens or Alstom, but it managed to expand considerably in the last couple of years, and particularly its regional trains are among the best in class.

@@markusstudeli2997 exactly, Stadler has huge growth potential. Alstom must digest the merger with very problematic Bombardier, outcome not sure.

Great video. Love the Stadler Flirts good for regional and intercity but wouldn't be suitable for suburban/metro based services.
It does amuse me that on some of the lines you have these lovely new trains but the old sounding track noise.

You can order Flirts with more doors and different Seat arrangement for suburban use. For metro services Stadler offers other solutions as well.

    • @drdewott9154

Well thats the thing with the Flirts. They're incredibly modular. There are some in Germany with as many as 3 doors per side per car. In other words the same amount as on Crossrail. Plus the acceleration on the Flirts is excellent so that wouldn't really be an issue.

I really loved how smooth the ride was, but the only thing that let me down was the seat and legroom. The seats weren't really that comfy for me, and especially sitting at the window didn't allow me to stretch my legs under the seat because of the metal bar. And sitting straight would give my legs minimal leg room.
