- A winter journey from Bellinzona to Luzern on the Treno Gottardo over the classic Gotthard railway through the Swiss Alps, opened in 1882. The original Gotthard railway was an international mainline until 2016, when it was by-passed by the new Gotthard Base Tunnel.
The train is a Südostbahn RABe 526 Traverso, operating Inter-Regional route IR26 from Locarno to Basel SBB.
Yes, probably my favorite regular train right now in Switzerland 👍Confortable, great window views, modern, even the bistro is great. Just a couple of things: at 7:49 the train stopped there is a new train for Rigi bahnen Bhe6/6 from Stadler that has been undergoing tests on the line. Also at 6:16 that noise let's us all know what day you did that trip and even the train you got 😄 but probably only those living in Switzerland will understand. Thank you for the great video
Mark your videos remain the best. Steady clear camera work, good editing, judicious use of text. Another excellent ride. I've enjoyed your videos for over ten years. Thank you!
Breathtaking scenery.
Good video.
Beautiful train, journey and country.
The big windows in the 2nd class low floor section of these local train gives almost as good a view as the classic Panorama wagon. And it was squeak free too ;-)
Amazing train ride! Aweosme palces and stunning landscapes! Good work! MEGA Thumbs Up!
All the best from Romania
Andrew
Probably one of the most beautiful views on a European mainline!, and stunning livery (Stadler have been doing very well for themselves lately)
Wow! Beautiful scenery! 🙂
Fun video! I hope to make it back to Switzerland someday. Thanks for making such interesting vids. My favorite feature of your videos is NO narration. Love having the chance to live vicariously through your work!
Enjoyable video, thanks. I've travelled over that route several times over the years and it never ceases to give me a thrill. What a shame the weather/visibility was so poor for you. Must try the SBB/SOB joint service next time we're in Switzerland.
Aus dem Fenster, schönes Video - ich mag die Linie über den Gotthard. BRAVO
Wow! beautiful trene my friend, the view is amazing, I love that train, wow!......thanks for sharing...MLTBC

I'd stab my ears after the first 15 minutes with that screeching noise!
Oh, the constant squeaking! That was some bad luck. 😞
6:16 the annual siren test!
🤣 oh god!
Красота, да и только!
Die Kirche vom Ort namens Wassen sieht man dreimal. Einmal von ganz oben, dann von halb oben, dann von halb unten. Ein berühmter Abschnitt der Gotthard-Bergstrecke.
I love the village view
Looks like a fun journey! Asking the real questions: how much was the coffee on board and was it any good?
I always love travelling by train )
Got this same train on diesel form now entering service in Wales
Great trip, bad day for window reflections.
Can’t believe they only have vending machines for food!

Maybe better with narration. And some more details about the route.
I appreciate the curvature of the track, but was the train / vestibule ends that noisy ? Nonetheless great video. Many years ago had the good fortune to visit Lucerne and surrounding scenic railways. Extremely scenic in the summer as well. A great memory: having breakfast on hotel balcony overlooking Brig station. Alps dramatically in background; VSOE arriving; local mountain railway terminus in the foreground.

00:20 (and in description) it is from Locarno to Zurich or Basel, not Lugano. But VERY comfortable if compared to the former suburban trainset running the Gotthard line.
It was as good as a top-rank Giruno used on Zurich-Milan services (which I'd taken Zurich-Bellinzona). In fact, same manufacturer and similar layout. My bad about Lugano/Locarno, what was I thinking! ;0)
A polarizer filter will cut all glare
eflections from the train window. 👏👍
beautiful. except for that horrible screeching noise
You did this ride the first Wednesday of February...
Are those squealing screeching sounds coming from the train?
Hmm, doesn't this train look familiar?
Nice video 👌

Nice
Wait, why are you reuploading hhe video?
What is the squeaky noise? I made the trip in 1956. The train had Swiss carriages with slatted wooden seats.
It's the connecting parts between the train's sections bending. You can see from front to end in these trains (Stadler FLIRT base, long distance version, I think they call it FLIRT IR), so the connections between the solid sections (you couldn't use them independently, so I wouldn't call them carriages) need to be flexible as well as pressurized. What you hear is the payoff.
By the way, when announced, this was considered to be a safety feature for late night services on commuter and regional lines (where FLIRT is primarily used). I don't know that it makes sense going this way on a long-distance tourist train, but clearly, there is hardly anyone on board here.
Beautiful scenery, but I had to mute it to watch it due to the screeching. I think that I would have jumped off the train!

Tunnels are boring. At least once drive an an old pass road and see the real Switzerland. That’s what this video is about. If you do one you might like to do it again. Spot on video. Thanks for memories!
That squeaking vestibule is migraine-inducing….

Would you recommend this over spending the extra time and money for the Gotthard Panorama Express? Coming from Lucerne and don't know if I want to spend the extra money (or time the boat will add to the trip).
Well, the scenery is exactly the same, and these trains have massive windows and comfy interiors. The panorama cars give a sense of occasion which a service train doesn't. But with hourly departures the service trains are more flexible.
That train has the feel of a low floor modern tram. including the curve squeak

I wonder what your children are doing now. They were so cute when I saw them.

Why?
@@seat61 adds depth to the journey - locations - the history - the time
@@andrewstorm8240 Sorry Andrew I disagree. A verbal narrative should only be done by professionals - otherwise it can appear to be pathetically amateur with mispronunciations and a wandering script. I admit there is a fine line between a travel video and a history lesson, but I feel those bloggers that prefer the written word are far more interesting than someone trying to be something they clearly aren't. The Man in seat 61 has it just right.
@@jonhartley yep depends on the quality but you could also do text over
