Need to start reaming pipes even with the pro-press.... turbulence will still cause pinhole leaks eventually if you don’t.
I just said the same thing. All that good effort negated.
Make sure you keep calling it Pipe dope always when working . I can remember about 33-34 years ago when installing a boiler with a another tech he kept saying wheres the " DOPE" or "Pass the Dope". Our boss showed up with a big smile on his face and said okay who has the Dope ? We were like what Dope. He knew right away that my coworker always called Pipe Dope " DOPE" and said that the 84 year old lady customer called the office and said your technicians are in my basement doing Dope and keep asking each other for more dope lol. The boss took the so called Dope " Pipe Dope" and showed the little old lady that we were using pipe dope and Not using dope in her house lol. She felt so bad that she gave us both a $50.00 cash tip lol. Oh i got a $100.00 Cash Tip last night from a customer after repairing a piece of Junk AIRTEMP gas furnace at 9:30 at night. Keep up the great work dudes and Merry Christmas. Peace.
I did a water heater install and serviced the furnace on Halloween and customer gave me a $ 200.00 tip
yo man you got the DOPE, pass it here :))
In Colorado plumbers are putting more dope in their joints.
@@waterheaterservices them's are what they smokin LOL
Tip,after using sand cloth, quickly wipe the pipe before fluxing,if sand from the cloth stays there,it can turn to glass from the high heat and turn into a leak !
You not suppose to solder on the water heater, you will or can damage the inside parts of the water heater.
I saw that and cringed 😬
I thought I was the only one that was thinking that!
And the recirculating line was cattywompus. Boiler drain way out, easily kicked.
@@jeffreyjohn2037 Nor supported. Just flappin in the breeze....
True
Very important point. Due to using the closed loop system within the hot/cold water plumbings, it is very important that the water heater is clean because you will be drinking from it. This hot water will be circulated within your potable water system as well. All the sediments, corrosion, calcium deposits, rotten egg smell (if any) will be part of your drinking water. I would flush the water heater at least twice a year and change the anode rod every year if you have a recirculating pump.
Do you not use supports for the long lengths of copper tubing
I can finally watch your videos because you have acquired a stand for the camera :) Maybe I'll learn something new. Great decision 👍
Mike did a really good job on that gas line, he's learning from the master. Thanks, for the video.
Best re-circ for any house is the Watts system,it's like $100, and it uses the cold water line for the return, I was sceptical at first, until I was in a jam and tried one in a 2 story bldg,it actually did a great job!
I don't like those things. Using the cold water pipe as a way to force the hot water into the cold creates a direct cross connection. If the timer on that pump ever does go bad and gets stuck in the normally closed position, the pump runs all the time. I've seen those things pump for so long sometimes that toilets start getting hot water in the tanks. Not good for the parts and not good for the china. To each their own, but I'll never use those things. IMHO, hot water return should be a dedicated pipe.
@@andrewwelch5668 - the timer does not have to be used in the Watts system, and thus the system pump can run 100% of the time. But that won’t cause hot water to flow into the toilet lines; that indicates that the temperature sending crossover valve has failed, or even been installed incorrectly.
@@stevebabiak6997 Maybe the valves did go bad in my situations, but it still directly creates a cross-connection between hot and cold water. That is not something I'm a fan of. People will put these things in, but I will NEVER put one in. It is a domestic to domestic cross, but if YOU want to potentially drink whatever comes out of the cold water piping after cycling the pump...be my guest. I'll take a hard pass.
@@andrewwelch5668 - the water feeding the toilet is potable water; it’s not water out of the toilet bowl or even the toilet tank because the tank fill valve must be an anti-siphon type fill valve to prevent backflow. So the water coming through the crossover is potable just as any other water coming to or going from the water heater.
Grundfos pumps rock
Hey, big fan!! Thank u for taking the time to record your daily stops and nightmares. I worked for an oil/propane company for 9 years and got out of the trade back in 2008. I do a couple boiler cleanings a year for family and not much else anymore. Watching your videos keeps me up to date with the HVAC scene and brings back a ton of memories, some good & some bad. Love your content dude. This is as real as it gets.
Nice 👍👍 got to love propress. Here in Cali we got to install expansion tank and put on a pan and earthquake straps.. but everywhere else is different.. nice job 👍👍👋
Thanks for the tip on separating the humidifier water supply from the duct. After 23 years, my Aprilaire no longer wakes me up at night.
They make proPress dielectric unions - I typically skip those, however and just use a proPress female adapter. Most tanks are already dielectric - at least the ones we buy. Maybe your warehouse / parts guy could get you some of the dielectric unions.
Yeah the nipples with a plastic liners in them are dialectic nipples no need for dialectric unions.
The hot water tank gurus!! Good job guys. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Are you going to be making any more videos
I find it really interesting watching how you do things in the states. Do you have to do any tests on the chimney/flue once you have installed unit ??
Here in UK we have to do a smoke bomb test for flow/blockage and then a spillage test with a smoke match at the draught hood, for products of combustion.
We have to do this at every service call by law.
Hey those channel locks work nice. Excellent video
God bless you you are a true professional stay safe brother
congrats on the 10k
That's Whats up !! 10.3 k is big so happy to see think we came on about 3.k Question: What was that red thing with the green light on it that Plugs in.. What was it and what does it do ? ? Thanks..
so sweating that pipe fitting after installing to tank doesn't burn the plastic lining on the cold/hot water connections at the top of the heater? I just had my boss rip my arse for doing that exact thing.
Did you smoke some Mother Nature before you got to this job? Moved a live gas line (before valve) to get the tank out of the way. Didn’t see you perform an integrity test on that. You had a nice and dry floor before you forgot that you had a return line to connect and quickly started filling. Sucks working in water doesn’t it? You were loosening the brass nipples multiple times instead of tightening. Your helper was on point with holding back using two pliers, but you’re too good for that I suppose. No support on the return line. Would have been nice to pipe the return differently so the next guy can service that gas valve and pilot assembly easily. Horizontal check valve should be 12” away from any 90. Do you own a level? If you do, use it. Watched a few of your videos, and I recommend sticking with troubleshooting, not jobbing.
Complains about hack jobs, over tightening gas unions...the he himself does it himself. Then always has to brag and boast how quick he got it done. Take a little extra time, after all I’m sure you’re getting paid by the hour.
Why the heavy sarcasm? You could make your points with kindness you know. Just sayin....
@@Bob.W. he could show “kindness” to the tank too. Notice when he had the unions tightened up on top and started messing around with the brass drain, and wasn’t holding back with a wrench or pliers, how the tank was shifting left and right. Brut force; definitely zooted. Smoked something for sure.
You can see the difference between the people who see their work as a signature of themselves left behind, and a _"hurry up, get it done, move on to the next one"_ attitude. Thing is, it doesn't take that much longer to do it right and well. It's not just a reflection on me as a tech but the entire company's name is on each job according to the quality of the job done. It's their image too.
If a company wants "hurry up and slap it on", then I look for another company. There are ALWAYS companies like that, as well as craftsmen who do it right and stake their reputation on the quality of their work, and companies who support that vison. These are the ones I look for.....
The air must be pretty dry up there on your throne. It’s an asset that has a 7-12 year life. The tank will fail before any of his work. Merry Christmas!
megalock is the only dope i use. easy clean up
Congratulations on 10k subs
How about a tankless with an internal recirculating pump?
That's what I need on my tankless hot water heater, because I'm tired of the cold sandwich!!
I could also add a crossover valve to bathroom sink. That's easy enough for a homeowner.
If you have a tub where you want the temperature sensing crossover valve, remember that the hot and cold pipes will be on opposite sides behind the service panel than they are beneath a sink. So the valve has to be flipped in order to get it working properly.
No pipe hanger on the disconnected gas line.
Joe I must say, you looked like an elf in the beginning of the video when you were driving in the van
How about Locktite 565 PST? Approved (UL) for gas and for potable water use. White, in a squeeze tube. Not as messy as using a brush can.
I thought an expansion tank is always code now? I'd also put a pipe clamp w/ all thread to the floor for support and to keep it from moving.
Don’t you need a flex connection to the water heater control?
no
awe your not going to use all those dissimilar metals that were on that circulation pump before? A dielectric nightmare.
Feeling like that weather that covid
Galvanized fittings mixed with copper ? Not good
True
She's a stiff one mamma 😂
Great video
You were not clear on the installation of the pump .You should of show step by step what you did.
I love the non pipe ream. thousands of thousands pipe joints not reamed. holy turbulence batman!
Placing a drain valve out into the walkway don't seem cool idea and a different style of valve could have been used. otherwise looks good, I now have some good ideas to work on my own. cheers
good work
Press unions
I knew that 90 was crimped bad.it looked ugly...smh
You cant use a bigger screw for that collector box or is it a warranty issue where you have to just change it out?
"ROAD ENDS", not if I don't want to stop :))
my new water heater leaks from the bottom (not from the drain) everytime the pump is on ? any idea?
It's all good Dogg
jesus christ how crooked is the piping
Ok
Don't be to critical Dogg.soldering a dielectric Union with the plastic in place, ain't a good thing bro.do it the right way.
Where’s mikeeer
There’s mikeee
One bad crimp on a pro press fitting cost about $20.00 plus the time to repair Ever wonder why I hate pro press
Why didn't you just use the fittings?
Wow you solder? 🤣
Lol your lights are always dieing
What brand channel locks u using
that is the brand "channel lock"
👍🏼
You look like "Bain"....
It’s a water heater not a hot water heater.
