Here's the traveller set-up: the Gitzo GT0545T Series 0 was discontinued... But pre-order it's replacement (the GIGT0545T Series 0) for $680: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1328230-REG/gitzo_gt0545tus_traveler_tripod_ser_0_4s.html Don't forget the $320 ball head: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175122-REG/gitzo_gh1382tqd_series_1_traveler.html Only 1290g and $1000 USD... What more could you ask for in life?
Totally agree with you on the Twist Lock vs Flip Locks. No matter how good the stability, I will never buy another twist lock again for exactly the reasons you nicely demonstrated at 3:52.
when that plate of jelly went over i would have been pissed and not like pissed as happy drunk but pissed as mad that it went over. but good for you not being mad. that had to be the funnest thing you have done for some time man. keep up the good work.
Just inherited a Cullman Magic 2, a 1980s full size, all aluminium tripod that converts into a monopod. Comes with an all-steel ball head. The Magic part is that it folds flat. I can get the Magic 2, a lens-mounted A7r and a spare zoom in my Billingham Hadley Pro easily. Now that's magic! Worth hunting down.
Kai You should definitely do a quick "WATCH OF THE DAY" in some video. I saw you wearing the coke GMT, the speedmaster and some other watches. Can tell you have a great taste for watches too! I am a big watch guy and loves photography.
Hilarious Kai! Love the socks and pants, adorable. The jello falling off is the greatest and then it falling out of your mouth! 5, 6, 7, whatever...second rule :-) Love your videos.
That was priceless! Just comparing two travel tripods now - Manfrotto BeFree vs. Manfrotto Elements Big. There are pluses and minuses for both but I think practice is needed to figure out which one will do the job. Befree is lighter and uses the Manfrotto RC 2 plate but Elements may be more versatile and uses the Arca Swiss QR system . I got a great deal on the Befree so the price is not a factor in this case. Kai, in another video you said that a center hook may not be the best as a camera bag loaded on could sway in the wind. My Befree does not have the hook but the Elements Big does. Is that a deal breaker? I would appreciate hearing anybody's thoughts on either of these tripods. I enjoyed this video even more on second viewing!
Adding a bag to the tripod to weigh it down sounds great, but does not work in windy conditions - the bag is likely to swing around and make the tripod less stable. You could, of course use a bungy cord between the bag hook and a tent peg...
What watch are you wearing? and just FYI, as someone who loves screw locks (twisty) it's a muscle memory thing. Once you're used to them they're super fast and I much prefer them to flip locks. But I know it's a personal preference thing.
I have the same tripod, it is rather nice, a little too light and top heavy. I hang a sandbag also on the middle pole. Otherwise it feels like it can tip over easily.
hello ! can you make a video about Canon STM Lens(sliver ring) vs USM Lens(golden ring) .. difference between those lens and .... which are batter for photo ... which are better for video ...
They do not make travel tripods for those above 6ft2 unfortunately, not to sure what to do with my Manfrotto 190 to make it higher? Perhaps an ball head leveler?
Kai I thought you were a little unsure of your vlogging style coming off your split with Rev. It's understandable after all those years working in with Lok and using the same format. However, your recent videos have been really fun and you're clearly getting comfortable as a 1 man show (on your vlog). Great job!
I've never seen such a slow set up with twist locks, I fancy I could match that Manfrotto time without much effort. Maybe your gitzo doesn't have 1/4 twist locks like most
Your gitzo combo is expensivo. With a little more money, I could get a fuji xt-2. My two cents: don't spend more than 200 USD on a tripod, bring something to weigh it down, and get a remote for your camera. Unless, of course, you have a ton of cash to spend on a gitzo. Then go ahead, spend away.
Hmm... Looks like the best combo is the Manfrotto tripod with the Gitzo ball head. Depends on price,I guess. I'll have to see if the Gitzo head is cheaper than the Manfrotto equivalent. My Tiltall alloy tripod is nice, but it's got the twisty kind of locks, so it is bumbly to set up. I have a smaller, older, Cambo ball head. Nice, but could be impreoved. Please tell Li Wei and Wan Ka I said Zaijian!
Have the "Amazon Essentials/Ebay special". I know that it's not going to last long if I trash on it... but it came with a quick release... it keeps the camera stable for indoors... and it was $20. I know that it it takes a hit... I'll be spending another $20... but that's the beauty of it... I can spend the money on other places like... YN/NW flashes and other cheap crap that will break ;)
I really wish reviewers as yourself should do an honest look at the JOBY mini tripods. The plastic ones seem to have so many issues after a modest amount of use. I think it is unfair to keep these on the market if the product has a tendency to have the ball joints disassemble or parts crack from modest use. FOR ME the most important thing for a tripod or any camera product is CUSTOMER SUPPORT. Recently had LOWEPRO replace an entire bag because the top lid with the handle did not have enough rigidity to hold the weight. AMAZING service. Manfrotto seems quite good but they seem to lack international warranty. If there is ONE job that means you travel alot it is video and photography... If you are forced to get service locally and you are 2000 KMS from home there is not much point in buying that product in my opinion. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT MAKES A GREAT TRIPOD.
Oh come on Kai... how many turns did you over-rotate those twist locks in order to win that ridiculously over-baked "race" with the lever-locks? :) Quarter turn to unlock, quarter turn to re-lock. No more complex or time consuming than the levers.
Sunwayfoto has heads that spin at the top. Level the head, then turn the camera for a panorama, the camera stays level. With the heads I saw there, one needs to level the tripod, much trickier.
Can't believe you didn't mention the Arca Swiss C1 Cube. Just the Geared Head puns alone are worth it. Plus it's an interesting piece of gear that not a lot of people have heard of or are in need of, but blisteringly expensive enough for a clickbait title.
The manfrotto befree live, I am considering to get it but is it stable with my rig canon 80D with a sigma 18-35mm art lens? And how is the build quality like? Please reply kai, Thanks
One time I was filming an airshow, and I was using a lightweight tripod with a heavy Nikon, and I fell onto someone's chest. Thank goodness the person was fine, along with the camera. I wish my very sturdy Vivitar tripod's panhandle never broke off because I'd have used the Vivitar instead...
Given what you said about speed then, is there a reason why you use the Gitzo and not for example the manfrotto befree live that you compared it against?
I bought the same Gitzo GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 , it is stable compared to the load, however there are several problems or issues with it. The main issue for me is the parts not glued on the tripod. In the result, either some of parts are missing after using for a while, or some of parts are loosing. The big issue for me is the rubber locks on the legs lost the grabbing ability in the water or in the snow, in the result, the re not able to lock on the position. I was told by Gitzo support that the travel tripod is not supposed to be used in rain or snow condition. It is ridicules! travellers still need to take photos in rain or snow conditions.
Jeeeez Kai must have a hefty bank balance, Most expensive tripod, Sony A9, A6500 casually in the background, Zeiss glass, (On DRTV they were from stock or sponsored but since going solo I bet he bought them all himself)
hi kai , could you do a small budget video camera setup ? im stuck between a couple canon 70d or lumix g7 , is there another i should be looking at ?? im looking at ebay prices not shop prices
No love for the pistol grip heads eh? I find a good pistol grip head to be the fastest to adjust, and also just as stable as any other good tripod head out there.
Always gotta make sure you can quickly Lok up the tripod
What how did I got dragged into this?
I miss DRTV. Remember when Kai broke the Gitzo by kicking a football at it and was only allowed to use cheap ones after that?
I laughed a good while at that
Lok Cheung is it weird that I read out your comment in my mind with your accent? xD
this is quality content, he always had his own unique style at drtv but now on his own channel it can flourish like never before

The highest with a head and a camera is just about the height of eyebrows... what gives
Li Wei says "Ni Hao!"
Thought only the unemployed are awake at this time?!
Jonathan Groggins I'm at work. But I get that a lot 😂
I make UA-cam videos, which is on a similar level.
What do you mean by "nihao"?
Kai W hello li wei wank a
Haha, I said the same thing about the Gitzo name not rolling off the tongue very good, but is a solid tripod. Nicely done.
Totally agree with you on the Twist Lock vs Flip Locks. No matter how good the stability, I will never buy another twist lock again for exactly the reasons you nicely demonstrated at 3:52.
Love the explanation on which tripods are best for photography and video!
thats some proper advice with the twist lock things. they take forever to put together and god I miss my tab thing tripod
One of your most slickly produced videos to date - nice work!
Good one. I wasn't prepared for the Li Wei joke, ended actually laughing audibly in starbucks. Also coffee spray.
I’ve got a nearly 45 year old Gitzo Gilux that seems to fit the bill alright. Quite overbuilt and stable indeed..
when that plate of jelly went over i would have been pissed and not like pissed as happy drunk but pissed as mad that it went over. but good for you not being mad. that had to be the funnest thing you have done for some time man. keep up the good work.

Kai, please tell about WALL MOUNT for dslr camera (1.5-2 kG)
Kai you are always so entertaining. Keep it going man.
i just found your channel and i used to love you on rev tv... even though i am not a photographer of your level i just like you for being you
yellow Futura.... Wes Anderson is that you
Kai You should definitely do a quick "WATCH OF THE DAY" in some video. I saw you wearing the coke GMT, the speedmaster and some other watches. Can tell you have a great taste for watches too! I am a big watch guy and loves photography.
You should review the Sheikah Slate Camera. Tell us how good it is for street photography and landscape.
i got a cheap Camlink the other day its my favourite one to date only a tenner secondhand think about 48 quid new, so light and quick n easy to set up
Ni hao ma, those tripods are over $500. jibai la.
A. Haikal Ruslan kah3 .. ade "la" kat hujung tu mesti malaysian
The la gives it away, Malaysian!!!
Half Malaysian, but yeah. I'm residing in the US currently. Used to live in Penang.
Malaysian spotted
rasta lik lau penang
Hilarious Kai! Love the socks and pants, adorable. The jello falling off is the greatest and then it falling out of your mouth! 5, 6, 7, whatever...second rule :-) Love your videos.
Nice to see new stuff from you, Kai!
Kai you make me become a tripod when you upload
Chunkxchunk Your only straight when Kai uploads???
Chunkxchunk you suddenly get a third leg?
That was priceless! Just comparing two travel tripods now - Manfrotto BeFree vs. Manfrotto Elements Big. Informative and entertaining! Awesome video Kai, keep it up!
What watch are you wearing?
and just FYI, as someone who loves screw locks (twisty) it's a muscle memory thing. Once you're used to them they're super fast and I much prefer them to flip locks. But I know it's a personal preference thing.
Pro media Gear Tripods seem excellent value for the features and quality you get.
I have the same tripod, it is rather nice, a little too light and top heavy. I hang a sandbag also on the middle pole. Otherwise it feels like it can tip over easily.
Always good and amusing but this one is especially cracks me up.
I just got me a manfrotto xtra - also your hair is looking great!
@kai you didn't open the gitzo right. It's half a twist to unlock makes them much faster than clips
Loving those Jell-o shots!
hello ! can you make a video about Canon STM Lens(sliver ring) vs USM Lens(golden ring) .. difference between those lens and .... which are batter for photo ... which are better for video ...
Always awesome videos! You da best Kai
A big THUMBS UP. Entertaining and very informative at the same time. Well done and thanks.
Thank you for making these videos, they have really helped me and my wife with learning how to shoot!
They do not make travel tripods for those above 6ft2 unfortunately, not to sure what to do with my Manfrotto 190 to make it higher? Perhaps an ball head leveler?

A leveling base is a great addition.
I've never seen such a slow set up with twist locks, I fancy I could match that Manfrotto time without much effort. Maybe your gitzo doesn't have 1/4 twist locks like most
Interested in your watch collection, can you do a video on them?
dude I don't care about tripods, I watch your vids for your jokes. keep up the fun work!
It's not a proper video unless he makes a mess.
Great content. Keep 'em coming!
I think Li Wei needs his own channel! :D
Why
Great work Kai. Entertaining and helpful video.
Left me with a smile on my face. Cheers
Gotta love the tripod! We will often even use them underwater :)

Good call including the jelly blooper.
I really wish reviewers as yourself should do an honest look at the JOBY mini tripods. The plastic ones seem to have so many issues after a modest amount of use. Talk about the laptop (or computer) & software you use to edit videos
PLEASE make a video on your process for making videos
Do you write scripts?
or are you just clever on the spot?
Can't believe you didn't mention the Arca Swiss C1 Cube. Just the Geared Head puns alone are worth it. Plus it's an interesting piece of gear that not a lot of people have heard of or are in need of, but blisteringly expensive enough for a clickbait title.

Always enjoyable to watch; question about the manfotto- did you replace the head that came with the befree? Cheers!

Kai wouldn't be Kai if he didn't drop something. Glad it was not expensive this time.
Hi, kai i want to know the tips about monopod as well.
I bought the same Gitzo GIGT1545T Traveler Series 1 , it is stable compared to the load, however there are several problems or issues with it. old comment but what tripod di u end up getting
5 second rule...
probably just rise it off.
That looks like a great little tripod.
I've been looking for something like this.
thanks
Thanks! This video was worth it for the warning about the tripod height. About to buy my first tripod and would like to vlog with it... but I’m tall 😄
Jeeeez Kai must have a hefty bank balance, Most expensive tripod, Sony A9, A6500 casually in the background, Zeiss glass, (On DRTV they were from stock or sponsored but since going solo I bet he bought them all himself)
Another top quality vid my dude
I got my first tripod and it is an Digipod have you tested one? it has same extensionthingy like the Manfrotto!!
i should do that in public whenever i swear just press the shutter... good idea, i think that'll save me a few reprimands at work..
Your making way better videos then you used to and this is great!
hi kai , could you do a small budget video camera setup ? im stuck between a couple canon 70d or lumix g7 , is there another i should be looking at ?? im looking at ebay prices not shop prices
When will be the next time you'll be in the US?
Great video, such nice content it contains jelly flows and green fields of temporary light
What's the name of the quick release plate adapter on top of the fluid head you mainly use?
Love the new vids Kai!
🤣 Thoroughly entertaining! You crack me up. My Gitzo Traveler is set up with an Acratech GPss
Li Wei says #goodHead :)
Kai my guy has his own channel, how did i miss it
I've seen a photographer named John Greengo set up a Gitzo super fast, I wonder how fast compared to Kai with a Manfrotto.
No love for the pistol grip heads eh? I find a good pistol grip head to be the fastest to adjust, and also just as stable as any other good tripod head out there.
You need to do a watch photography video, please. Cool top gun in this video.
Manfrotto Neotec 548B is likely the fastest deploy DSLR tripod ever made. Pull to extend. Push one button to retract.
0:53 Been thinking of ordering that Kessler Crane Kwik release plate, looks good!
The manfrotto might be quicker, but at the end of the day, you still end up with a manfrotto, when you could’ve gotten a gitzo.
This was really informative been watchig you for years now keep it up😉
Kai, Please start linking the products you mention!
Your videos are killing me. Keep an amazing work man. :)
This reminds me so much of DigitalTV's old videos!!
what about cheaper tripod + camera with remote trigger/using time delayed trigger? :)
4:37 Manfroto failing the critical "can it balance a plate of jelly" test.
The jello couldn't take it anymore. lol
@Kai Street photography please in future videos. Miss it!
Entertaining as usual
Which camera did you used for this video (or same for all of the videos)?????
Kai please teach some basic photography concepts.
Can You suggest any tripod from China (currently i am in China)
Li Wei is AWESOME!
