- It's a quick trip out with basic gear, no flash, and auto ISO. Can you still take good insect macro photos? Yes, you can. ISO's reach 6500 and photos look good. Watch and enjoy this video where I test this.

I have bad luck with no flash but I think its been my fear of ISO and forgetting to set a high enough shutter speed also - but this is motivating seeing these - with Topaz and lightroom denoise, might as well give it another shot and allow a higher ISO! Thanks for the tips. And I dont think you can ever go wrong with Pizza :)
The only time I struggle with no flash is early morning when it's darker out. In that case I use a flash. A tripod could also be used for slower shutter speeds, but I don't have the patience.
Your correct! Pizza is always a good choice. 😎
Great video! For such high ISO the images came out great! Did you use Lightroom's denoising feature or another software?
Thank you! Normally I use ON1 Denoise but for these photos Lightrooms AI denoise was used.
Great stuff! I got my Canon 7D mark ii with the 24-105 f4 L macro sense we spoke last and I got some great images of a bumble bee and even some of him in flight, but I have the luxury of auto focus. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep up the great work!
I've been keeping my eyes out for a good bee in flight location. Hopefully I'll have a video on that soon. Glad you got some great shots. It's definitely worth it when you go home with some images you're happy with.
@@foto-spective This bee was on my butterfly bush in my back yard. I also got a couple of images of a butterfly out there, so maybe just look at a flower bed anywhere... I find images in some of the most unlikely places.
@@joncothranphotography9375 Local park is probably my best chance. Not many flowers in my yard.
Excellent video, natural is definitely the way to go. I use the same approach when shooting outside. It allows for a good f stop and shutter speed when letting the ISO go high. With cameras today, they capture light very quickly and that's what ISO it intended for. Those that don't like the noise can use an AI denoise software.
I enjoyed these photos with natural light more than the usual flash photos. I will likely be taking this approach much more often.
@@foto-spective Can you get clear and sharp 1:1 this way? That is always where I struggle, even with flash.
@@upload638 Yes I can. Using my Olympus 30mm macro I can even get a more than 1:1 sharp image. While handholding and no flash. You just have to increase shutter speed enough to freeze any movement.
@@foto-spective I have the OM-1 and the 60mm and 30mm Zuiko macs so I will try later, I have been trying to get consistency with this and it is so difficult to get clear, sharp photos in 1:1 , and I have been using flash 100% of the time so this will be fun to try
@@upload638 While the flash will freeze the movement, it also prevents you from using higher shutter speeds. Let me know if giving this method a try helps.
I never use flash or a diffuser when doing macro .
I certainly enjoy the look of natural light much better.
@@foto-spective There is guys on here who will do there damnest to upsell diffusers even there own designs . Diffusers is meant for indoor static shoots of subjects where you have to control the light .
Ever since i've been doing macro i just used what i had and used and always been happy with what i got .
ISO 1300 1/500 f8 in sunny day?? How? Maybe thats a camera difrence? I shot birds ISO 100 1/2000 f4 in much less bright. Im new in photo.
My camera is not known for handling high ISO. I used Lightroom to denoise each image in post processing.
@@foto-spective No no, i talk about high iso neds in this wether. After ask question i check sensor in your camera. It is 4/3 so it is smaller than FF and get less bright.
@@polishhamnr1469 Yes, much less light on the 4/3 sensor.
