      Blast Processing I actually test drove the manual WRX first and compared to other manual car I drove, it definitely didn’t feel as nice (Compared to Veloster N and Civic Type-R). The CVT however was much better than I expected. If you have the fund, I’d recommend getting another manual car unless you absolutely need a good AWD daily driver.

      fr33x The WRX is at its best if you get the manual not the stupid Jetco CVT, The CVT makes the car slower, makes it a little heavier, and you get worse gas mileage

    • @fr33x
      @fr33x 4 роки тому +2

      hereitcomes Thing is, have you actually driven both to actually make that judgement or just base it on other’s opinions? I am sure everyone has their own preference when it comes to car, that’s why there are so many varieties of cars to pick from.
      All I am saying is, this CVT feels great, and shouldn’t be scratched off the list simply as a result of stigma towards CVT. (CVT done correctly was actually banned from races from the past due to it being too efficient)

    • @hereitcomes9106
      @hereitcomes9106 4 роки тому

      fr33x Just cause I haven’t drove a slower WRX with the CVT doesn’t make my argument flawed, now if you think that the CVT transmission that is found in the WRX “feels good” because of the fake eight speed imitation which is pathetic then ,I bet you’re someone who likes what Lexus, BMW and more car manufacturers have been doing with fake exhaust sounds through the speakers......... now your argument with CVT’S being efficient some cars with CVT‘s are efficient example the Toyota Prius , that might be more suited for you.

      Yeah the key to keeping it going this long has been don’t park it just keep it running. I just had to replace the stock turbo because the waste gate had been cooked open because I had an oil leak that killed to coil packs... but the car was still running... however the raw fuel getting pumped into the exhaust super heated TS and burnt up the turbo waste gate and packed it with carbon buildup. That’s the first major component that needed replacing other than the AC compressor.

    I think you are partially correct on why there are fake shifts. I believe they did that because cvts whine up and stay at rpms consistently which can get very annoying. So they "shift" it to change engine frequency to help with NVH. Look at the interiors of the newest subarus, they are definitely trying to do what buick does which is offering budget luxury.

      @Eggs Chilli cvt can easily outperform most transmissions at the moment, its just that no one decides to put the effort into developing them because customers complain about save the manuals/ cvts are trash. Formula 1 banned them, and if they are configured/made right it can keep you in the boost/power band the longest. That being said, at the current moment, yeah cvts could use an upgrade, at the moment per se

      What I like about CVTs is that when accelerating, you can make it accelerate at exactly pace you want, with just the amount of throttle you give.
      When you're simply cruising, the revs go to near idle helping with fuel economy and being very smooth.
      Main thing with CVTs is that you should NOT launch the crap out it at standstill at every stop light. As long as you're moving you can do almost whatever you want with the transmission.

    I understand those who prefer a manual, all good wishes to them. I have spent the last 50 years riding Motorcycles, and Driving both manual and auto vehicles for different reasons. I owned an Outback with CVT and disliked it, the same with an XV. I also had VW Jetta with the GTi motor and a DCT box which was awesome. However, I recently decided to buy a new WRX and against my own feelings decided on the CVT. Well, I have made the right choice…….this thing is a real hoot in the twisty mountain roads I most enjoy - point and shoot - Haven’t got time for a bloody gear stick as I am too busy enjoying the ride and working the steering wheel which takes both hands at my age 🤓. I guess I would be even happier with a DCT but at what cost? Anyway - so far I have no complaints and am enjoying my new WRX Premium with CVT. 😎

    As a manual WRX driver, here's my opinion. It comes down to this; if this is going to be a tuning platform, and you're looking for a more visceral driving experience with a more reliable transmission and better performance off the bat, you should buy the manual. This six speed is SMOOTH, easy to drive, an absolute blast, and reliable. Subaru CVTs just aren't the most reliable and are very expensive to repair. However, if you're going to baby the drivetrain, and you're driving in heavy traffic, or just want a more laid-back experience, CVT is a great option. I drive in traffic occasionally and my clutch foot doesn't tire, but with my mods, my car does NOT like to go under 10mph in first gear, so I could absolutely see why someone would want the CVT if that's their daily drive. It's all up to you. Don't let so-called gearheads beat you down for buying a CVT.

    Excellent video. I currently drive the WRX CVT. I've only done just over 1000km. At 1K the Subaru dealer wants the car back for a free service just to check over the engine etc. At this point I had them change the oil, which I paid a small amount for. The dealer said they flush out the old oil when doing a oil change so this is what they did. I did notice the engine sounded different for a short time after picking it up so I'm sure they did the flush. Make no mistake, this is definitely a performance vehicle. They have mellowed the shape somewhat but rest assured this thing will eat your licence for breakfast if you let it. Don't let anyone tell you this is not a sports car, Im willing to say this will be all the speed and handling you will ever need and you can drive it around like a non sport sedan most of the time. After looking at the cost of upgrading for hp it does not seem worth it. Especially the torque converter.......$2k. CVT COOLER IS A MUST if you plan on doing anything to the car. I feel like Subaru could have picked a better automatic transmission to put into the wrx. Plenty of other companies used the zf 8 speed in their sports cars and they are fantastic. Dual clutch transmissions are too expensive, need way more maintenance, and clutch packs wear out faster than a torque converter.
    My brother bought a 2015 wrx cvt brand new and hasn’t had any problems that I’m aware of. He also doesn’t drive the car aggressively. He picked it because he never learned how to drive a manual and didn’t want to do so on a $30,000 dollar car. I see where these cvt wrx’s come into play, but personally decided to get a manual in my 2019 wrx. If Subaru had gone with a traditional automatic I may have considered it because I sit in a lot of traffic. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy a cvt.

      subaru can't bolt on a transmission from another manufacturer to their engine. The front and center diffs and front driveshafts are integrated into the transmission. They have to do the R&D themselves, which they won't do to put in 1 single low-volume car, or add in a transfer case and completely throw the "Symmetrical" part of their awd out the window on the WRX, which they also won't do.

    I feel like so many people hate on CVTs because they're afraid to admit that a CVT is the most efficient transmission design in terms of power delivery. A 3 pedal manual, in 2019, is literally the SLOWEST type of transmission as has been documented by pretty much everyone. Of course, that's not really the point (I own a Focus ST with a 6MT). As long as you can preselect your gear ratios (paddles) so that you are in the powerband, the only compromise with a CVT is from an emotional perspective. CVTs are faster and easier to drive when you compare the same car with two transmissions; an unfortunate fact of life for some, but not you and not me.

The CVT in the WRX would allow each of us to drive the car and if I want to bang "gears" with the paddles or let the car do its thing.

    The CVT is a huge issue because CVT's don't belong in any car that isn't meant to be a commuter. Only reason Subaru doesn't have an traditional "automatic" because they save money by just investing and developing the CVT. They don't make enough money to carry both a traditional automatic and CVT alongside each other. Subaru customers could care less about a CVT because all they want is the symmetrical AWD.
    The only reason I hate on the CVT WRX because it doesn't drive like an "automatic WRX" should. Enthusiast know it , Subaru customers don't. To each their own, but a real sports/rally car has a real auto/dual clutch or a manual, not a commuter transmission.
