My fiesta has Apple Car play, and I don't have to pay for it, imo this version is going to flop because it lost everything that made the 1 Series, the 1 Series
from the first time I saw the car, it's looks have surely grown on me

But Kia isn't bad at outside design. And this 1 series is unfortunately ugly😒

Actually Korean car designers often look at the Germans for inspiration. They are not like Japanese or French brands that try to look different from the rest.
KIA's head of design is a German. So if any, KIAs might be taking design ques from some German brands and blending it into their own designs.
Kia’s aren’t ugly
I test drove this car. Amazing drive and engine and transmission combo. I have owned a variety of monsters.
I have a 520d with a Zf 8spd autobox, with the paddles on the wheel and being honest they spend there time purely as a decorative feature. Always in auto mode, you will always have the right gear 👍
So it opens with an Android phone... but doesn't have Android Auto...? What?

@Arianit Krasniqi Finally someone who understands. Cheaper brands often look at what the more expensive ones are doing. The highly priced brands start the trends more often.
@Arianit Krasniqi You have got a point, but the fact is that first came the focus, and then this bmw, so to me if the focus was there first it means it is the bmw that looks like the focus.
The previous 1 series,no matter if you liked the design or not, had a very distinct look about them. It was more setting trends rather then copying the market trends.
In my modest opinion, this is just another hatch with nothing but the badge going for him.
@Arianit Krasniqi Totally get your point, just think that now it is not just details of the rear or the lights or what ever, it is the whole dimensions and general proportions of the car, the grill,, the front, the rear, etc... And to finish it all - it is front well drive!

I think they did well with front wheel drive since the rear wheel drive gave lots of problems. Camshaft, Propshaft, Power steering etc Im sure this Front wheel drive is a good buy

Had my 118i 5 days. James' review is accurate. Awesome car, exceeding all expectations. Far better than A class.
It looks like a mini van. Ugly.
Then you haven't seen the car for real or don't know what a mini van looks like. Its more coupe in style, very sleek and is a wonderful drive.
Court 1 A mini van could also be fun to drive. Front wheel drive, unbalanced weight... Better you bought 2 KIAs for that money. You have bought just a BMW badge to show your neighbours

In all fairness in real life it doesn’t look bad.
I agree. I was skeptical about it on video and on photos, but now that I have seen and driven it, I think it looks pretty nice but nothing mind-blowing. It still has that sporty feel to it. Way more than most cars in this class.
Love the back, especially the taillights while the front is just fine. The headlights do not have my favorite shape but the DRL signature looks typical BMW, which I really love. The overall shape of the car is fine. The interior is my favorite in the whole C-segment. Especially the general lay-out and quality are really good.
Money, marketing, greed and deception. People will buy it just because of the badge and a perceived notion.

I’ve had mine since November and I think it’s one of the best cars on the market. I test drove the A class and the Ford Focus. This one is the better car. Better space plus the engine is superb.

Oleg Loca As a BMW former driver you should know that the design on the i30 n was made from a BMW’s designer, so they look kinda similar. I like this 1 series tho, why people hate it so much?

You do not get rear air vents on the 118i. You will need to upgrade to mclass plus blue calipers, Harmon kardon sound system then its worth driving.

I’m considering getting the new upcoming Audi A3 but is this the equivalent? I prefer the blended in dashboard and not the sticking out ones .

Looks better than previous versions
First I did'nt like it. But driving it changed my mind. I orderd one in M-sport and black now. Leasing it on the company.
First I didn't like it. Then I still didn't like it. After 3x1 series, I will go to another brand.
I am glad I have bought the previous gen 1, it feels very unique now with its rear wheel drive and its design.
Wish I could afford a 140i
When I first saw this in pictures in the motor press I was somewhat aghast. I recently saw one in a car park, and after taking a wander around it to get a feel for the whole shooting match, was quite smitten. Okay, that shape is a bit derivative of other yawn inducing moderns, but, hmmm, this has a certain cut around its jib.Maybe the BMW badge helped. The modern BMW image doesn’t cut it with me at all, yet a look all around the thing made me think, it has something. It is compact and even rather cute, without being a softy. And the front, I’ve decided, is definitely a grower. At least on this little thing. Maybe not so much when you’ve got a “BMW driver“ in the new glitzy fronted 5 series trying to arrogantly and nonchalantly push you off the road cos you’re only doing 80! BMW 1 though. A big yes.

Its not as bad looking as the 2 series GC but it's keeping with the 1 series tradition of controversial styling

Problem is, BMW is sire that only 20% of the buyers knew it was RWD, which sounds like bs. I owned three 1 series, will have to pass on the next one, probably go Mercedes

I love the looks too, I’ve ordered one in that blue, no added options but it still has plenty kit. It drives nicely too, not a really quick car but I prefer my bike for speed.
If the 118i was really 47mpg that would be just fine but real world 33 I’ve heard is that correct ?

I like the tri color seat belts. But not big fan of the large kidney grills though.
why everyone tests only the 135 i and the 120d Xdrive , I would also like to see someone test the 116 and 118, just to see the difference between a rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, because Xdrive doesn't do justice to a good rear-wheel drive like the 140 i and the 120d last gen.

So they've taken away BMW's legendary rear wheel drive for a bigger boot but not much more passenger space. Anyhow, that takes nothing away from the great review. Thanks James.
People who buy this back then wouldn't know that their wheels was driven at the wheels, I think people will appreciate more space but for purists I would go for the 2 series Coupé and luckily it will stay RWD
@@Heinrichrhode1997 You're right. According to BMW, most buyers don't know they've got a RWD car. The previous 1-series had a cramped back seat, small boot and awkward styling to accommodate the engine and transmission. So the engine and transmission is now more conventional, but the awkward styling is still there (personal taste) and the back seat is still not amazing (according to this review). I do like the new interior layout, but that's not enough to persuade me to pay a premium over any other hatchback. If you took the badge off, I'm not sure it's any more special than a Golf or Mazda 3.

I currently drive a grey golf 150ps. Had it for 9 months. Terrible car. Part it exchanged for one of these. Just avoid a golf mate whatever you do.

So when BMW supported the design of the Supra, i wasnt expecting that would lead to Toyota in turn allowing BMW to model the looks of their 1 Series on a Corolla. What a rotter to look at
The 1 series was never a looker first generation had a spooky surprised looking face with a droopy midsection, the second gen pre facelift had squinty, pointy lights.

So, once again no Android Auto but you can unlock the car with an Android phone. But there is Apple CarPlay (ultimately at a cost...) but you can't unlock the car with an iPhone. Are the BMW development teams actually talking to each other?

Oh no BMW what is you doing?
Shame it does not have a CD 💿 player or as a option . Not much choice for the customer . I still buy music cds 💿 and also use usb , Bluetooth . It’s long transferring songs onto usb or your phone . Music digitally is not always cheap either . I prefer not to stream music from Apple Music , Spotify .

Test drove the 140, sorry buddy you're going to be disappointed with it. It's not a bad car, but fast and agile it ain't. Nothing special for the price to be honest, I was left very underwhelmed...

Josh 👍🏼people are quick to slate it. Mercedes, Audi and VW all have 110-115ps cars which is what you see most on the road. I have drove this. Not everything is about horse power. In sport this is really quick and agile. Any car with 200+ horse power will not be able to effectively deliver the power unless equipped with 4WD. Take the polo gti for instance. This car wheel spins every time you put the foot down. Bmw have focused on drive quality not fake statistics!
I am kinda annoyed hearing the stufflike come on, it is the same wheather it is fwd or rwd. It is not. The rwd simply handles better and this is a matter of physics. You can also know wheather you have been pushed or pulled when accelerating. With this version bmw has become an expensive ford focus in my opinion. There is no reason to choose one instead of a mercedes a or some other car.
