    I have been adapting lenses both to my Nikon Zf and my Fuji GFX50R. For the Nikon, the old Nikkor AF-D lenses are amazing. The zooms are so much smaller and lighter (just manual focus but with the amazing manual focus alert on the Nikon AF I don't need AF). For the Fuji, I have been buying Pentax 645 lenses. I don't think I will ever buy another modern lens, I love the rendering of the older lenses much more than the clinical modern ones.

      I really need to dive into the 645 series lenses. Too many lenses and too little time...

    The Zf and the Z mount is just awesome as it can adapt almost all lenses even Sony E-mount ones.

      I agree! I don't think it's necessarily unique to the Zf but the look and feel of more vintage lenses on the Zf combined with the body style of the Zf is unbeatable. Thanks -

      I don't think adapted lenses is unique to the Zf but the look of a vintage or purely manual lens on the Zf body can't be beat! Thanks -

    You can use the Neewer adapter that you have with any manual lens via an NEX adapter and take advantage of the green focus confirmation on the Zf.

      That reminds me that I have an old A-mount adapter around somewhere with some lenses that I'll have to pull out. Now that will be a real Frankenstein's monster!

    You can adapt manual non cou lenses to the Nikon and get the green focus confirmation. The key to the is the Newer E to Z adapter. Then you can use a M to E + the Newer E to Z. And the focus confirmation works. The is a yt video showing this.

      The amount of choice we have in choosing lenses, formats, and mounts is amazing. What a great time to be involved with photography. Thanks!

    You completely failed to mention the issue presented by the original screw drive AF Nikkor's. They function perfectly on the higher level DSLR cameras but when mounted to the FTZ there is not AF function available. Which rather peeves me as I go back to the F2 and the AF models that followed in the 80's and 90's. A time when truly high quality zooms were either priced sky high or so lacking in image quality they weren't very useful. As a result I have a rather large collection of AF Nikkor's that really don't work well as manual focus lenses due to the zero drag focus rings used to reduce the power draw for the autofocus. With the stepper motors now available and FTZ with a drive for the AF Nikkors would be dead easy and power could be supplied thru the lens mount.

      That's a good point and I seem to remember that discussion being had when the Zf was first rumored and then specs started to come out. If you look back at the Nikon Df which had a much wider compatibility with older lenses it really stands in stark contrast to the Zf. I wonder where the break-point was to drop compatibility with screw drive lenses and the advantages that the decision opened up. Thanks!

      @@bluf820 There is no advantage at all for Nikon. What this is doing is to drive shooters into getting 3rd party lenses and also irritating every user with an AF Nikkor collection. Because the Z line is distinctly lacking in Prime lenses and those that are available are distinctly expensive. As a result folks like myself are turning to 3rd party Primes because of availability, cost, performance, and lighter and smaller lenses. Yeah, zooms have become great. However they feature giant lens hoods, very complex designs, and generally pretty poor bokeh. Take the 80-200mm f2.8 Nikkor Z and compare it to the old EDIF 180mm f2.8 AF Nikkor and you'll find both lenses are equal in terms of sharpness, the 180mm slays the 80-200 for Bokeh, and the difference in size and weight borders on stunning.

    I adapted some Mamiya 645 lenses to Zf with a focal reducer. Manual focus only, but the AF assist in Zf is very handy.
    Some sample photos here in my video. All shot on Mamiya 645 80mm/1.9 with XPimage x0.71.

      Could you explain the focal reducer? Is that a requirement for the lens to work? I would have thought that the full-frame sensor would have just cropped from the visible area of the lens. Does it provide a faster aperture through the focal reducer? Thanks -

      @What_Other_Hobbies Місяць тому

      @@bluf820 it’s not a requirement. 80mm Mamiya 645 lens is still just 80mm in full frame but with a focal reducer it’s about 80mmx0.71=56mm

    I recommend NOT getting the Neewer but the Megadap instead.

    • @bluf820
      @bluf820  Місяць тому

      I'll have to check that out. I see they have a Canon adapter also. Is the build quality or compatibility better with the Megadap? Thanks!
