I would prefer to watch these classic musclecars race than NHRA Pro Classes...pro stock, funny car, top fuel. This looks like a blast with all the different makes and models. Everyone has a favorite musclecar.

I had a 1965 426 wedge Plymouth Satellite. I ran at Fremont also, near to where the Tesla factory now is. My times varied between 14:80 and 15:20 as delivered from the factory, with trap speeds in the low 90s. Always wanted to get into Fremont’s 101 club. Helped Jungle Jim Lieberman, while we were both at Sunnyvale High, install an early 409 Chevy in a 1958 Chevy. He was never happy with its performance, but he sure went on to run faster cars. Today Fremont is gone, Jungle, is gone, and I drive an electric car. However it does run in the high 11s at 117mph, at least on Draggey.

GTO at 13:25 is rippin! cool videos, wish more people could appreciate how hard it is to get a solid launch with an older, non traction control, stick shift car.

I had a 65 GTO tri power that turned a flat 14.0 at 105. With snow tires on (forgot they were on)

My car is mostly stock, when I show up at local drags here in Colorado, there are hardly any cars that run 14’s and 15’s. It’s kind of a bummer, it’s better to run with cars in your own class. I would love to attend an event like this.

I raced during the same period and the cars in our drag club, Mustangs, Camaros and muscle cars were this fast. The fastest car was a 1970 Duster with a 340 and he went 13.9 at Fremont Drag Strip to win the meet. His only modifications were headers and slicks.

Didn't the Chevelle LS6 and Hemi Cuda run like a 13.2 on stock tires?

Track preparation makes a big difference. I've seen similar cars on a "dry" track and most of them burned rubber in the first 50-100 feet. There's lots of rubber on the Mid-Mich track.

I Remember running F/PS at Fremont in my PURE STOCK four barrel 1966 GTO and a 15.10 with non slip 3.55 on 70 series wide ovals. A couple tri carb pure cars with a decent driver combos in 1964 cars were good for 14.50s ... yeah, slicks and header could get it into the 13.7 range... but the rule book ruled the competition, and such mods ruled you out of pure stock. See some fifteens is realistic for pure cars. Running at Fremont you could get to know what REAL stockers were capable and to top it off the factory was across the freeway, 102 octane fuel too! A glider strip, and great racing! Made some good friends and met and rubbed shoulders with the greats. Garrlits, Kalitta, Stone Woods Cookie Cook, Black& Pink ... dozens more. That is how it was. The first pure stock this guy recalls in the twelve Danny what’s his names brother on a crazy three cylinder two stroke Kawasaki 500. His last name was Italian that zombies my memory. I was thinking of them couple days ago and then I had the name. ... just remembered! Tony Nicosia ... either a 12.41 or 12.91 ... brain needs oiling. Plymouth ran a campaign with some pure stocks and the 383 , and a tri carb 440 were driven by pros and talent was the only change from every other driver like you and l. The 383 roar runner was a mid to high fourteen car and the 440 / 390 hp squeaked into the 13 second quarter. 13.87 through 13.90 ... Pure stock with red line tires all four. So there you go, my 389 four speed dog legged with 3.55 axle , 15.10 , to a 13.90 440 six pack.... back in the day when we got a handwritten time slip. And that’s the way it was.

Actually they did. You can do some modifications but most cars from the 60's and 70's did run these times.

Mad Hatter Any mods means NOT PURE STOCK. The rule book limited just about EVERYTHING. No trick tires, no headers, etc etc

@@dannyruble5488 dude I opened up my cold air intake and got an extra 20 hp. It's called factory delete. Mine is all factory but I've added hp here and there. I'm talking little modifications, deleting stuff like I done, not adding parts. I call that modifications because it is.

Mad Hatter See, I really think you don’t know what the NHRA “PURE Stock RULES were! You were limited on Almost Everything! The Cold Air modification was PROHIBITED in the RULE BOOK! I know because I drilled and filled on the pot Metal fake Factory intake on my ‘66 single 4 barrel GTO that ran in F/ PS . The rule book said That was prohibited. Almost ANY modification like cold air induction would bump you out of Stock to Modified Production... because you cannot modify your car and run stock! The Stock cars were allowed stuff, but you were not going to be competitive with the few cars that were capable of running national records. My friend said don’t tell people, but l had brain surgery and chemo and radiation and I am with it some brain, but I am not brain dead! Just like headers, fat sticky tires, loose fan belt... A PURE stocker was a car the rule was a street car and no towing or trailer. The only mods were basically tire brand, and mufflers! That was it! Gearing was limited and maybe a couple other things. You could fiddle with timing And jetting... Goodies Speed shops sold an anti pump up valve train doo hickey and the scrutiny said that it was okay. I am not positive, but I think maybe you could take out the spare. No smaller batteries, or location change. I am going to try to find out if Anyone that has PS history has a better chance to post stuff. BTW, Factory Delete was something that the FACTORY left off in the FACTORY, not some dealer or backyard wrench. I If a radio or heater was standard equipment, you could not take it out. The face blank plate was for the factory to put on. If you took out the radio and the tech guy found evidence of the wires being messed with it meant you were cheating. Remember, PURE STOCK... Have been doing the races, reading the rules, working on drag cars and in the car business since the early fifties. I ordered the new cars at more than one dealership and brand. At one time I was able to memorize the complete RPO list , invoice price and MSRP on Chevrolet, Pontiac and Volkswagen. Don’t try to confuse me with crazy stuff. I can remember things! Opening the hood scoop or any other modification to direct under hood cool air on a vehicle that rolled of the without such enhancement was not allowed! I think that they prohibited it in Stock Classes as well. The Ram Air, Was legal... a functioning non factory production was NOT!!! Please research!!!! Thank you.

Stephen Arzoomanian You’re absolutely correct! Pure Stock mean As delivered by the factory. Muffler and l think a 3.90 rear and you could change tire brand, but not size. Custom wheels as long as they were deemed safe by the tech people who had complete access to NHRA specs, as submitted by the manufacturer. A Pure stock 389 GTO 4 bbl was a low 15 second car when broke in... the three carb car was a mid 14. A 1968 roadrunner was a 14.70- 80 car. I think that the only FORD power cars that were quicker than a 15 was the 289 AC roadster COBRA and the extremely non street world Thunderbolt until the first Cobra Jet Mustang made a huge splash. Yes, hot rodded car with slick, headers, cams, and such could transform a 15.61-73 around 87 mph Stocker to a 12.88 @108xxbut we’re no longer pure stock, that is modified production. Not quite a gasser. Thanks to the new rules a hood scoop was classing you in Gasser Class say around ‘68? The scoop now just bounced you up to M/P...
