This sublime performance should have been given at Carnegie Hall instead of in Shibuya. It should have been part of a promotion for an adult contemporary album pitched to an international audience. She would have filed Carnegie Hall---five times over---and her CD of original songs would have surpassed Norah Jones' first release in popularity. Yet instead she (or the record company?) has elected to issue an album of self-covers in May---for a domestic audience. Quite annoying. The supreme singer-songwriter of the century---but she refuses to release music or embark on musical ventures outside of Japan....
There have been offers, but she said that she didn't have the time for it - she also refused for a long time to be a 'commercial' artist i.e. endorsing consumer products but she made a few exceptions with Glico's Watering Kissmint Gum and Shiseido Maquillage a few years ago... But this was all before her second child.

Great post. Ringo is an artist with a very wide scope across many genres. I love the use of the accordion in this song. So French! Ringo should be an international star. She would knock'em dead in Las Vegas with Sakuran, and Gamble could be a James Bond theme, while in Tsumi To Batsu she's a real torch singer. You don't even have to know what the words mean. Thank god for UA-cam else I would have never had heard her.

If Shiina Ringo had sung the original version in a key that better suits her range, I think it would stand up very well against other songs in her catalogue. As reference, take a look at the Shiina Ringo's music video for the 青春の瞬き (Seishun no matataki), which is another song she produced for Kuriyama Chiaki.
