Uthermal's games are always a treat to watch! I love how he is innovating new strategies to potentially introduce more players! Thanks for the excellent casting.
For sure. Especially in the top tier of players, playing the PLAYER is fat superior to anything, the match up is meaningless as is the map, same goes for the "meta" strategies... everything goes out the window except the Player themselves. Always counter the Player rather than leaning on the meta, map, match up, etc to get the win.
I'm sure by the very end he was positive he had the game in the bag and was more concerned with the actual army control but he does actually break 1,700 resources just before the GG.
I've seen Uthermal do this on the ladder against 5-6k opponents, but holy crap Serrals response was super clean. Spores popped up so fast under the BCs I didnt even realize where they were coming from
I gotta give it to you Lowko, you are a smart guy. The mental capacity and layers you are able to work with are impressive. "For the ones of you who are not as confused as you should be." - basically saying that being knowledgable makes a person confused which is true in this case and that's funny. And then also when you competed with Harstem in some show where the question was if two upgraded immortals kill planetary fortress and you voted against yourself in order to higher your chances of winning. Good stuff mate. I don't think you truly understand the math behind it but just the fact that you were able to come up with that strategy is amazing.
Yep. Rather than his first notice being the BCs appearing and losing drones while his defenses build he instead had about 30 seconds heads up. This meant that he had defenses almost ready to go by the time they arrived
Uthermal is probably one of those players who pros either love or hate to play with. On one hand you get to practice more unusual situations you wouldn't have in standard macro games, on the other hand who does what Uthermal does
reasons why I like uthermal is that he plays to entertain lol. i forgot a protoss player (not top tier player but was also in these tournaments) way back 2021 who plays hilarious cheese too. his cheese would get found out but he'd force it and somehow win. sht was hilarious and entertaining lol
You said serral has no idea he's gonna face BCs... I'm pretty sure he has played countless games on ladder vs terrans who go BC rush So while it is true that he did not have vision of the fusion core from the start... he probably knew that losing queens would mean that he would be super vulnerable to BCs, that's why he instantly sends an overseer to confirm if terran is going BCs (but he doesn't bother to delay the starport with overseer's ability for some reason)
I really like where the void ray is at. It's situationally good, so not completely useless, but also not overpowered. I'm glad we are long past the void ray meta.
Started watching this channel randomly and been obsessed with SC2 again lol. still haven't re downloaded it but man it's great. and after this video I started watching Uthermal. he's fantastic 🎉
One adjustment for uThermal's ghost/BC strategy would probably be to have more than 1 marine defending against overseer scouts. A turret and/or detection tower would also work, though a detection tower in the main base at that point may tip your hand if someone thinks hard about its position and why it's not positioned for more traditional attack groups. If Serral hadn't gotten the scout, he would have no spires building vs 2, soon to be 3 or 4, BCs, also soon to have Yamato. Because he got the scout, he had a hidden/safe spire being built, a sacrificial spire being built (on top of spores and more queens being produced).
4:13 floating 200 min and knowing his 100% all in, yet still don't put down 2 more shield bats to stop the tide. typical protos play and then complain afterward after how p is soo hard compared to, well we will never know bc no protoss ever use their fking resources on static to survive, if they cant micro their way out of it they rather die :P
4:23 that's 450 shield right there, with 3 shieldbat to reinforce the front you could just keep exchanging until T was forced to go away or lose slowly. but nope, 2 gates that will do very little to prevent his losses here ^^
4:56 yer who would ever have guessed an anti-light energy based unit would suck vs. armoured high ehp units *rolleyes* and that's another photon or shieldbat price right there... so that makes it what? 5 shieldbats, so 3 on front 2 on main base and who cares about this weak attack.. but no :P
5:36 lost more than 1k resources and 8 workers on that... soo maybe next time just put down the fking extra 2-4 shields to easy mode safely, instead of trying to micro it away in a losing manner... deserved loss
@@kokowoch you're right, I didn't realize it at first, but I went back and looked, and he started up 3 spore crawlers just before his overseer approached uThermal's main. Just serves to underscore how hard it is to beat god tier players, when they can predict and counter even the unexpected strategies!
Coincidentally I was watching your other video where uThermal was cheesing in every game of a tournament, when here is another uThermal cheesing video uploaded lol
Definitely. His personal challenges with weird builds and thick cheese are definitely entertaining, but you are right, if he was seriously going for the jugular, he'd just wreck everyone.
No, I don't think so. Cheese has some build path to follow while big macro games are a lot of little new decisions you have to make every second. He is a great player yes, but you cannot say he will rank even top 5 if playing normal macro.
Jajajaja me encantan las builds de uThermal, son muy divertidas de ver, quiza no sea el mas rápido del mundo pero tiene un planteamiento del juego muy inteligente y versatil
for those that dont know uthermal he doesnt play for win. he plays for meme. he mostly limits himself to 1 or 2 unit types only. like the mass reaper you saw. He purposely handicaps himself
it would have been better to wait till 4 bc's to jump them in. bc's are pretty good but they are stronger in bigger numbers. 3 starports would have worked really well. It's a slower start up build but works faster in the long run. you can huddle on 2 bases and do it.
always scouted, and mass corruptors rdy , while early BC no corruptors ready. fun would be viking-marauder after gettng the fusion core scouted by purpose. imagine 10 useless corruptors when 6 vikings hit the deck, helping the marauders vs the roaches
I had to go back and play 12:39 moment cus for a sec I thought Lowko said that it's a groß misread but he just said that it's gross if you're reading this Lowko you missed a good occasion for a joke.
UwuThermal ought to throw a dice before every match to see if he cheeses or not, I feel that could be pretty interesting, if he has to macro he can choose one of his weird builds anyway, like penguin mech or his false three base all-in. They wouldnt hardcounter him so hard then.
I love uthermal, but these are two of the best players in the world. Tough match ups. Still a lot of fun and I love that he keeps his positive attitude even when he loses.
I have a question to SC2 players I love watching the game but don't think I could ever play with how much work it seems to require but often times I feel like especially with zerg we see a terran or protoss operating off of 3 bases and turtling and building up an army that lets them push out of a like a zerg containment to expand and get more economy until the map becomes a split map and the game lasts a really long time. They zerg tends to have like all there bases when this is going on to so my question is why doesn't the zerg player instead of mining there own bases build there bases while the other player is contained on there side and mine out there side of the map so when they do push out to claim said bases they have less resources to actually get and the zerg can just retreat and go back to mining there side.
That is a strategy that some people use. Building a hatchery on the opponent's side of the map is called a "proxy hatchery". You can proxy any building but it's typically production structures so you can build units on the opponent's side of the map to reinforce your own attack faster. There are people that try to mine out bases on their opponent's side to starve them of resources as well. The reason people don't do this much is because it's risky. It's harder to defend those bases as they're far away from your own production. Or if you keep your army over defending it, your opponent might just go around and kill your main base. It all comes down to making those risk vs reward decisions.
I wonder how the rest of the pros feel about uthermal games. From the outside I would assume there's some aspect of "this is a breath of fresh air" fun to it, no?
27:20 How is Serral doing Macro under that much pressure?! 😭😭😭 uThermal vs Serral is like the difference between someone with hundreds of millions going band-for-band with a _billionaire._ To be clear: that's _not_ a knock on Marc - Serral's just that good. It's insane.

To make Serral float over 1,000 resources is nothing short of miraculous for anyone not in the top 100.

seeing the cheeses on uthermals channel just destroying opponents, then seeing serral just shut it down so hard is incredible.
it takes the best pro players to shutdown uthermals cheese, so entertaining
Lmao the decoy spire was epic
Uthermal is one of a kind. He is just a ton of fun to watch.

I think without that excellent scout by Serral (where he saw the BC/Upgrade), things would have been different. Very interesting ideas by Mark.
Yeah totally. But also that's one of the things that puts serral above the rest - he always scouts EVERYTHING
Pretty amazing how Serral having the presence of mind to send that follow up scout was entirely the difference between a win and a loss.
