Hey I'm one of the Terrans (Thor) in the first game... one thing I think people don't realize is just how difficult it is to adapt against a vastly superior player until you're in that situation. Yes I've dealt with reaper harassment before, but never against such perfect micro (and macro behind it too.) yes I've dealt with marine drops and tank pushes before, but never with such perfect movement. I think I'm a decent plat player (only started to play sc2 a few months ago,) but It really just goes to show on how different a level pro players are xD Uthermal made me feel (and look) like a much lower level player out there... had a ton of fun doing this though haha! For those wondering, yes we were in voice chat trying to coordinate our strategies, but he was simply too good!
Do you think it would have worked to just contain him with your reapers without attacking in? The moment he tries to expand or move out with his reapers then attack. Meanwhile the zerg is free to macro the map.
Yall put up a good fight. Those infantry upgrades might have helped get you all get into the late game. You all might have been able to break him if you'd sacrificed some infantry to get the vikings and ravagers on top of his liberatorsbefore he started pumping tanks out. Tactically speaking, you all played very well. His mechanics are just too well honed. The longer the game goes, the more little mistakes he can punish. GG.
@@erikhaynes5506I don't think that would have worked because it is hard to coordinate reaper movement between 2 players. Uthermal will just go after one of you and kill all your reapers without losing any (which is kinda what he did here.) even if you could contain him a little, the moment that helions/cyclones/tanks come out he would break free. Who knows though, gota try it out haha!
@@matthewmurphy4820thank you!! Yeah I figured our best chance was to win with a combined cheese, but I overestimated our ability to coordinate attacks and underestimated his reaper micro
Vloxal I think the key against Marc is to play safe, keep your bases safe until you can all get on 3 bases, then max and go. For example, zerg should be building lots of queens and get on 3 bases in 3 minutes, Terran should be getting marines and a couple tanks, and Protoss should be 4gate blink. Once Protoss and Terran are maxed, zerg should go 14 mutas and just pile on the mutas, playing for nonstop harassment while the other 2 slowly push Marc's base. Well played BTW - before this game, I thought a 3 player cheese was the way to go. But to be fair, it could have worked with like 4 ravagers. Everyone needs to push at once maybe?
@@SeekAndDestroyTM I agree. I think everyone playing conservatively and preventing worker losses from early Reaper and drop harass would be ideal. Then push out with a giga army he can't defend (Somewhat reminds me lf his 1v7 cheater AI challenge, except we're intelligent opponents lol). As for the reason I cheesed the other Terran suggested it so I figured it was worth a shot. I think it could have been more effective if we pooled a couple reapers first though.
I think Uthermals secret is to shout encouragement to each unit. THIS LIBERATOR IS DOING AMAZING. THIS SEIGE TANK IS REALLY GOOD TOO, oh look at this pack of marines this is going to be amazing. Very entertaining to watch GJ
What a show of force to mark your 100K subs on your main channel! The showmanship, commentary, and mental dexterity to outplay six opponents. Seriously, you deserve every single sub you get and I hope your channel continues to grow. GGWP!!!
He was actually considering things from the other player's perspective as he dismantled them.. Clinical pro. "Quite hard to bile over this strange high-ground area..." etc.
Def fun to watch. It really seems like if there was some planning and coordination the 3 plats should be able to hold. If there had been some static D (spines, cannons, bunkers) near the mineral lines then he would have had a hard time chipping the econ early. After that you could specialize with one Terran pursing pure air starting with vikings patrolling everywhere to stop drops and another focusing on tanks to start pushing in the ground slowly. The third player could either try to grab some cover for tanks or just pump money to either ground or air Terran. By splitting the army between air and ground you'd also get a good upgrade advantage. OFC you'd have to work to coordinate but with a tiny bit of practice I think it would be very hard to get enough damage done to the econs to keep it from spiraling out of control.
The problem these challengers keep running into is that they're playing like it's a 1v1. They keep playing into your strengths by allowing the early Reaper harass, the midgame drops, and suiciding into tank lines with ground units. I feel like a simple focus early game defense with one person quick teching into air superiority like Tempest/BC that can break tank lines would be a fairly simple but reliable strategy with this kind of numbers advantage.
yep thats exactly what the problem is. Everyone was trying to do their own thing without working as a team. Team sc2 is a different game compared to 1v1. And when playing with a number advantage you take that advantage and run with it either with a quicking timing all in or 2 players focus on defense and one techs to carriers.
I really love your grandmaster versus 4 silvers video. Looking forward to see how this one plays out! Your videos are always very exciting and enjoyable to watch

13:43 LOL 'im gonna split' is american slang for 'i'm gonna leave', which is exactly what they just did with the medivac. You meant 'split' as in micro.
Thanks for the great content. Perhaps it would be fun to see you team up with another (weaker) player(s - different races), the goal to win but with both players surviving. Maybe without discussing strategy first so that communication, resource sharing, army sharing - joint or independant defence, harass, adapting, scouting etc. would be variables to be considered. It would be great content and very instructional. I realize that this would make your solo-multi plays more difficult as adversaries would copy your style, but I imagine it could be fun and if anyone can do this well I believe it to be you. I've seen other pro players play some team games, but these games are often less interesting to watch than professional 1:1's as ultimately they often lack real communication skills or any deep strategy, mostly just combining some units and attacks. The fact that you are playing with a weaker team mate could add layers to this.
That was great to watch, and I hope the Plat's gained some insight from those replays. Maybe you could do a mini lesson after to teach all of us wood league plebs what they 'could have tried' in those situations? Especially the reaction to mid game.
kind of makes me realise how OP u_thermal is against anyone under GM on the ladder in the other challenges. Like he can win just with reapers against 3 diamonds at once...

As Terran first thing I would make at the start of the game would be a bunker right in the mineral line with a turret as soon as possible. Would it be useful at the ladder? Doubt it but against the harassment of the player with the superior micro? Yep.
The number 1 unit that gives players below pro level a hard time is tanks IMO, and uThermal seems to understand that quite well. Batteries, bunkers, spines, queens, cannons, widow mines, etc.
Yup if he couldn't use reapers to chip off a ton of econ he wouldn't be able to weather the combined armies late. He has to rotate hurting each econ constantly but if even one could develop without interruption he'd have a hard time. Early static D would preserve the econ advantage of 3v1.
