- Could the Centauri win a war against the Minbari? We will be comparing Sharlin class warcruiser vs. Primus class battlecruiser and Nial class fighter vs. Sentri class fighter. We will also be talking about three different strategies that the Centauri could implement to win a war against the Minbari.

I think it's a no contest, the Centauri are overmatched in every way. The Minibari are Generations ahead in technology. It would be hard to figure out a scenario in which the Centauri could win. Awesome question! Love the videos utopian!♎️👍

@@Marinealver well the vorlon and shadow position is questionable. I'd put them on the same level. After all at the first known shadow war it was stated, that shadows were so powerful, that vorlon needed younger races and the other first ones just to stop them. And in many instances shadow tech is better. So I would disagree with vorlon>shadow. It should be shadows => vorlon.
The only thing more suicidal by going into Minibari space is going into Volan space.
After Vorlon left they did exactly that. They also stated the same iof the Shadows or any of the first ones.

The Centauri are the larger polity. Minbari are only 2 billion while the Centauri approach 4.1 billion.
Centauri also deploy one of the most accurate heavy weapons in the Galaxy. (Earth Force of 2240s barely had any long range weapon or advanced enough sensors to shoot Minbari ships)
But funny enough all of these advantages the Centauri Republic have are not gonna help...because of what Fleet Action shows. (To The Victor and My Enemy, My Ally)
The Minbari field more ships than the Centauri, Narn or even Earth Force.
They have lower population, less planets and their ships are harder to produce...and yet they still outnumber them. It's a scary prospect. You can see In The Beggining how the Minbari send more Sharlins than we see Omegas over Mars during the Civil War.
Not only that but the Minbari are the more stable polity between the two. (Caste Feuds don't compare to the absolute mess that is the Republic in the modern era) If someone is gonna make psyops and covert ops to disrupt the government, it's gonna be the Minbari. They still have their Rangers out there even if White Stars aren't taken into account.
Centauri are at 40 billion, minbari slightly less.
Minbari have the larger fleet coz they never dismantle their mothballs. They've been hoarding for 1,000 years. Most of those ships need to be upgraded. It was a point in how it operated in the war against EF.
@@armni4619 Where do you get the source for 40 billion? Centauri Republic with all the colonies combined only make it to 4.1 billion. Almost all races are in the 2-8 billion range.
I know Minbari Ships are ancient but they were extremely well mantained. (Babylon 5 Wars, Minbari Federation Fact Book) It's the Centauri who have mothballed fleets that are in shambles (Showdowns 5)
@@armni4619 Okay I just checked Day of the Dead. They 100% dwarf the Minbari then, zero indication for them having over 2 billion citizens.

Minbari ships; yeah, they aren't broken. Just need updates. That's what would limit them in immediate use. They can still use them if it comes down to it. But then the crews need to be retrained to work them differently.

@Diana Vespid yep. I tend to ignore the less realistic numbers, moreso Seeing earth's 10 billion. They're possible for the league given their borders and consolidation preference. A bit out there for Minbari, though. You're the second person I've seen using b5wars, nice. Usually had to explain that every time i bring up sth. outside the show and movies.
No contest at stated by The Centauri ambassador. None as all the strategies mention count on Mimbari being stupid and that is not going to happen. In fact at end Centauri were no shape to take on anyone.
Hmm, the only real option I see is if the Centauri kidnap a whole bunch of worker caste, then have a serie of telepaths get the technology out. Then start making ships that can match those of the Minbarri because they would be based on their own technology. (Remember, the worker caste build the ships. And still where seen as less important so kidnapping them might be possible. Still risky though. Especially if we talking new grey counsel and they find out...)
Artificial gravity is owned by the hyach, brakiri, markab, abbai, basically most of the league. Not just minbari and Centauri.
The primus is over a century old. The designated Centauri battleship during the show was the Octuron.
The primus' biggest weakness is its lighter armor. Its shields are good enough, seeing how old it was.
EarthForce wanted weapons with longer RANGE, not power. They specifically asked the narn for heavy lasers, prematurely tested the hyach laser they stole, and developed .24c missiles, among other things. No one would give them better sensors.
General Centauri doctrine involves speed and firepower. They avoid slugfests and have less armor than other species' ships, in favour of their gravity fins giving them shields and manoeuvrability. They rely on their manoeuvrability to outflank, surprise, and overkill an opponent. Look at how they rolled the drazi and narn in the show with their vorcha. This is the better tactic against the Minbari compared to standing and slugging with them, which was how EF lost nearly all its ships.
Centauri would never fight the Minbari directly in a war. They'd use the maps they have to target their logistics, bully the league into getting involved, and play cat and mouse with Minbari offensive fleets. Biowarfare is a can of worms they wouldn't open unless Centauri Prime was near bombarded. Minbari are better at it, thanks to J'hadur. EF thought it was in a war of annihilation against something unstoppable. Mistakes were made from that mindset.
If the Centauri could develop a cloak before hand for all their heavy war ships could give them some edge over the Minbari but with the Minbari and their high tech could develop something to detect them in time or develop their own to defend them self. Earth is most likely still haven nightmares of the Minbari war and would not jump in for the Centauri and the Narens or however you spell it would be more then happy to see the Centauri get curbed stomped with them twos past history.
There is no chance of the Centauri winning. It is not just the warships where the Mimbari have advantage. In the event espionage is limited in ability by the religious caste telepaths which are seem to be allowed to go where they like a lot of the time - this was hinted at in the story with the human telepath and the Minbari civil war.
Also scanner tech almost certainly works on the Centauri as they have or had access to much of the tech the Volans had and having that level of tech was needed to win the war of Valan vs the Shadows. But also they have tactics that came from those tactics that the Centari may have no real defiance against.
But the biggest reason they loose hands down is the Minbari when attacked don’t know how to stop until the people that attacked them all dead. They will unify and seem willing to accept any losses and discomfort until the other side is obliterated and not doing this seems to be a major psychological problem for them. We saw this with Delin when attacked by a larger more powerful fleet. They managed to destroy two White Stars and Delin reorganized came back and killed just about all of them! The centauri are many things but as blood thirsty as a hive of African Bees is not one of them. The will of the Centauri would certainly break far before the Minbari and then the Centauri would go extinct. (Humans survived because of the triluminari, the Minbari started to realize it was a mistake of communication and the fact that they pretty much just immediately lost - even then it caused a stress that would eventually result in the Minbari civil war.

but you need to remember that the Centauri actually challenged entire Interstellar Alliance without fear the Minbari
Rallying enemies against the Minbari is a solid tactic if not for the backing of the Vorlons. But then, there are plenty of races that aren't too fond of the Vorlons either.
Dear everyone else in the galaxy. The Minbari have committed mass genocide in the past, are attempting it now and most certainly will continue this practice well into the future. It is in all of our best interests to eradicate this galactic level threat to our existence as was done with the Dilgar.

The latest cencari ships gave stealth technology and fighters. The vorcha . Seems to be comparable to the white star. At least in a group. . But regardless of technology, the minibari officers leaders , and mentality would overcome them . Imo .

The Centauri have show a willingness to go to extreme measures if they feel their backs are against the wall. As we've seen with the Shadows on Selini island.
So kamikaze space fighters with nukes are on the table. But then the Warrior cast is up to do that as well. And at that point it becomes a matter of numbers. And the Minbari don't have that. Less ships, less systems, less people. Each loss is a telling blow to the Minbari. As for the Centauri, unlike Earth Force, they know how far the Minbari are willing to go.
Centauri would give them a hell of a fight
Of the younger races, the Centari are the only ones, in my opinion, that can actually defeat the m Mimbari however, I don't think they actually would try to simply because there's no profit in it for them. Remember, the Centauri Republic revolves around gaining power through wealth and political maneuvering. There's no profit in attacking a race that you're roughly equal to unless there's a reason.
In the end war is about numbers and logistics.
If the populus of the Centauri Republic is greater than that of the Minbari Federation. If the Republic outsource is ship building to a race with a strong industrial base like Brakiri or the earth alliance the Republic will win.
I'm going throw in a controversial opinion and say most likely The Centauri Republic would win. Reasons would be logistics and the smaller tech advantage that the Minbari had against the Centauri then what the Minbari had against the EA.
The war against the Earth Alliance almost broke the Minbari Federation Economically. JMS himself stated that without the Minbari stealth advantage EA would have won. Minbari ships and weapons are works of art so they are slow and expensive to build and maintain whereas size of Centauri industrial base is larger and it's ships are mass produced.
The Centauri ships could target a white star in hyperspace at long range, so they can hit the Minbari ships and a Centauri Vorchan has enough firepower to destroys A Narn heavy cruiser with just 6 shots.
So IMO the Centauri would win a long war at 90-10 and short war at 70-30 chances.

These videos along with the show, to be honest, are all pointless. Saying who would win in such cases is like saying who would win? A modern army or a Roman Legion? The idea that a race that had been in space for a few hundred years could even hope to match a thousand plus year space faring race is silly.
