Thank you Dara and Ella. Do you know that I didn't like the physical appearance of my wife when I proposed? She was just too slim for me. But I love her born again spirit and mind. I only proposed according to impression of Holy Spirit on my heart. I yielded and I created space to accommodate the will of God. After about a year, my wife's physical appearance smartly changed to the picture I had in my mind before I proposed.
Practically, it is not easy for someone who doesn't have son-like relationship with God to accept such. However, it is safe to be genuinely born again and have healthy spiritual relationship with God before proposing to her or praying about acceptance of a marriage proposal.
Four years in marriage now, I am happy I am married to her.
Marriage is sweet as a believer.

God is love and I strongly believe that if it is God that is the author of that relationship then He will put the LOVE in your heart towards the brother or even the sister as the case maybe.
I have been married for almost 8 years now and I can boldly say that God was the AUTHOR and my husband was the first man I really LOVED before marrying him. I can tell you that it's really important that you like what you see before you get into the marriage.
Marriage is a serious business and there is the sexual component to it so you need to be physically attracted to the person in question and not hide under "if not for God, I won't have married you....."

Knowing the will of God in marriage doesn't start from when you are ready to get married, it starts from the time you come to know the Lord and if you don't know Him you can't know or do his will. Young people today make that mistake. When they are ready for marriage or relationship that is when they deem it fit to move closer to God hence the reason why some have problems knowing who is who or what is what.

Buh for me, if God's leading me to a brother I don't like, he would have to wait till I like him before we can get married because physical attraction is also very very important in marriage. I feel led to share my story....
I had waited on God for years for my husband. I had my 'list' but l trusted God who made me and knows me will surely give me my 'spec'. My spec (based on my background and environment was tall, fair and rich man(and lover of God ofcourse). I kept waiting and waiting.....
All the while l had this colleague in the office who was my 'padi'... nothing more ..just my padi...we normally had lunch together...gisted together...did assignments together...etc...
Then he resigned and l started missing him...(l didnt know all along l had started liking him)...then fastforward to 2 months later, he asked me out and l damned him. I gave him 'iso' because he was shorter than me (not my spec) and younger than me (definitely not my spec).
Later in the day when l was about resuming my prayers on who to marry...the Holy Spirit reminded me that 'but someone just asked you out and you declined' ... that was how in a twinkle of an eye...like a veil lifted off my eyes...the baricade in my heart lifted (remember l really liked him as a friend but didnt see the dating part).
...11 years later
We are married and blessed with 3 boys (twins and ldowu)
To God be the glory...

God is real and true, he guides his children, however you decide who you get married to. The "posture of your heart" will determine the premise on which you make the decision. I personally and honestly believe you should "like" the person you plan to marry. There is no point being miserable and tolerating someone just because you feel it's the "will of God". Enjoy married life with the person you admire and celebrate. Cos if you marry because it is "God's will" and this "God's will" does not become your own will, unhealthy comparisons will ensue. That's when you hear a spouse tell their partner "You are not even my type, if not for God's will I won't have anything to do with you". Since God has given us the power of choice, use it wisely.

I have been in such a situation where by i didn't like the brother and I ended up walking out of the relationship for some reasons, and am happy i did because it wasn't the perfect will of God.
I like a phrase you ladies used "humble beginning" that is actually where God starts us from, He gives us his children someone who is not already made.
But you can see the potentials in that person only when you look closely, and that they going somewhere great!

There are cases whereby someone might sincerely pray for God's will without any idol in the heart (as you've explained, not having any idol) and God shows u someone you really don't like but you have decided to stick to your fathers choice. And over the time, God has put the persons love in your heart. All you've been doing is praying and waiting for God to bring the person.(it takes two to tangle yeah?)
But after say 1.5years of praying and waiting and God did not reveal any other person to u, you got to know the person is engaged.
Well, I know the person still has to go back to the father. But I'm just trying to say it's not always bcos u have an idol in your heart.
This issue can be very complex at times. But like Dara said, we should always know that everything that comes from God is good and man is limited.
So all we can do is to wait on him again and again and again till he settles us.

I do not think there is a particular individual for a particular person. I mean like God assigning a husband to a lady at creation.
While it is absolutely important to seek the face of God when it is decision taking time, no one person is exactly your heaven-ordained spouse.
Believers pray for guidance because even among God's children, not all are compatible in marriage. A brother may be prayerful and much given to the things of God and still not be the best for you. Oftentimes we are drawn towards people we like only to assume that is God guiding us.
The best way is to know what we really want and ask God to lead us. The essence of God leading us is basically because what we want sometimes may be superficial. I think if we see a Christian we really like, it is ok to pray about them until we get that peace that assures one of God's permission.

Or else what can we say about widows or widowers who remarry few months after their spouses pass on?Does it then mean that God had many spouses in mind for them at creation? If a brother is very sure and the sister said no; let the brother go back to God and wait till the sister gets married to someone else. Marriage is work even when you are sure of the leading of God.The two people involved must work even after the wedding as if they are working out their salvation with fear and trembling.

If God was so detailed in Leviticus about how He wanted His Tabernacle built, his priests dressed, down to the tiniest details, how then -- or should I ask -- from where in the Bible did you come to the conclusion that God has no special one for all of us?
Marriage was instituted by God. God being the Master Planner has everything planned.
If anyone could fit, then God would either have created many Eves for Adam to choose from. Or God would have made Eve the exact same way He made Adam.
But He didn't.
Instead God made sure Adam had a pair by removing something from Adam to make Eve.
So Adam wasn't just waxing poetic when he said Eve was the "bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh".
No one size fits all in marriage. There's the RIGHT size, there are sizes too small and there are sizes too big.
Is there an exact pair for each of us? YES.
But it's our choice how we chose to accept it.

My question is, if God paired us all at creation and one of the pair chooses, like you said in your last line, to pick someone else, what happens to the other fellow who might want to do God's will ?

Truth is, I believe if we trust God we wouldn't worry about all those details, because God and His works cannot be subjected to logical analysis.
If I trust God I will trust His will for me -- without trying to comprehend the details.

Great topic to discuss.. I am dealing with an issue on the opposite side... May be I will rename it, "they (the females) say God says I am the one, but I like only one of the them and I and still not hearing from God who He really wants for me" Hahah. Story on the man's side. The principles you have discussed are the same on all sides.. so this was great to listen to. It will be great if you could discuss my topic though.. hahaha, maybe get the guys to talk from their guy point of view. Issues of waiting on God for God's choice of a partner is so dicey and delicate and we explain it away with various ideas and mindsets. But like I always say, God's choice is always the best and safest.
You need to be sure who God is leading you to before you commit. God's silence doesn't not mean yes, it may mean 'My Daughter/ Son pls wait and seek me more'. Years back i attend a very strongly believing Bible church whose doctrine on marriage despite me been born and raised in the church still had a NO NO on that part.because i see situations where marriage committee should i say pick persons ( brothers& sisters ) and have them got married next thing you see in church the brother or sister has been suspended for marital issue.. at my job i had this brother who is from the norethern part of the country a christain we got talking because we worked so close at my job came to realise he was a christain i invited him to the retreat so supprised to find became a member in the church .. One day i was asked to wait after service which i did.. The elders had summoned me for questioning. On our relationship i told them i had nothing to do with him we just happened to work together and he lives closer to the church . one elder said he knew it loudly.. Fast forward to two weeks later i never spoke to him about it. Cause i dnt want to creat nothing in his heart or mind .. I liked him as a coworker and i was so glad i had won a soul to the kingdom. He told me that the committee of elders called to tell him that two sisters had seen him as a will of God.. He needs to go pray and get a confirmation from God so he dnt take a wrong step 😳 how serious. Though he was also a faithful worshipper right with what ever he does but was still struggling with smoking addiction, Less i forget he was a autopedic doctor.. His tithes where on time.same offerings contribution in church active.. After praying for several months he told the committee God said No i was called upon again to know if i was the brain behind it .. I told them i already had a confirmation from the lord from a non member of the church. Long story short they are all married to different people and living happily .. Some people descides to go ahead without confirmation just because the brother Is handsome, financially ok, pressure from family, these are mainly on sister's and you dnt have a choice not to fall in love wit that brother you said yes you recieved a confirmation from God too .. This same sisters meet them at the point of downfall will tell you dnt be like me i am still in this marriage because of the kids or church.if you dnt like that brother please dnt marry him. When you meet the right person from God everything will work out like a miracle .

I just read a comment of someone else that spoke about how he didn't like his wife physical appearance much when he proposed but 1 year down in marriage she began to conform to the physique he had in mind all the while. So what if she did not conform to that physique?, what if she remained like that?, could that not cause some sort of friction?
