She was something else, man. Amazing.

You guys are reading wayyyyy too much into the wig. It was to poke fun at the public’s view of her: the trashy, dumb, blonde, addicted “wife of a rock star”. Coming out in a brunette wig is basically saying “You’re all about to take me seriously now.” She’s being sarcastic.
That said, as much as I adore Melissa and the light she brought to the band later, this is absolutely the perfect Hole lineup. No question.
I wish this lineup could’ve gone a little further. 💔
Sounds like you are a big fan of Hole
She was every bit the trashy psycho addict narcissist the press said she was. Putting a lampshade on something doesn't make it go away.
I wish I could agree with you but what I know of Courtney she liked to devil people into submission
Ya, I liked the original drummer playing her as well
R.I.P Kristen Pfaff
R.I.P Marilyn
R.I.P Kristen, Marilyn, Janis, Frances
Awe Kristen! 💝
It's too bad she didn't join a better band and never met that evil psycho.
For those who want song times...

Yes she was an absolute badass.

@@wombaterror yeah, I read "Pfaff" and thought "Auf der Maur." I'm an idiot. Obviously Kristen was the best.
Kristen Pfaff will not be forgotten. 27 years ago already...
Haters can't stop watching Courtney's videos. They love her
I'm getting more than a little sick of misogynistic creeps, who try to give all the credit for "Live Through This" to Kurt, because, Courtney's just a girl, and therefore, she is not capable of writing great songs on her own. She frightens them, so they feel the need to "Yokoize" her, and frankly, I'd like to remind the army bof Courtney haters out there, there is a reason why the coolest guy in the world fell in love with her!
@@emmaduncan2991 When Courtney took Kurt into the studio during the recording of Live Through This to try some harmonies he said he couldn't because he didn't know the songs. Courtney drove that album and it has her spirit running through it. A great creative artist before during and after her marriage. If anything, her husband learned from her and she introduced him to a lot of cool music. So, the misogynistic fucks can do one. Hole were great.
I'm here for the bass player
@@emmaduncan2991 correct not kurt... but *live trough this* would not have been been near as good w/o kristen, THE ONLY trained musician in the band. sure Love wrote the words and some basic chord progressions, but that does not make great songs on it's own. Kristen fought love hard in the studio and the record is way better because of it.
@@emmaduncan2991 so if anyone criticizes Courtney they must be misogynistic? That is just like those who say anyone who criticizes Meghan Markle must be racist. Generally, people are criticized for their own personal actions, behaviours, lack of actions, etc. Personally I believe Live through This was superior to any other Hole album because of Kristin Pfaff and the reason I am here to watch this video is to see Kristin. She was in a band in my home town called Janitor Joe, who were really good, so I really like to see these old videos to see her. I don't think Courtney is capable of writing great songs on her own, she isnt even capable of writing great songs while collaborating with a great song writer, Linda Perry. She is also barely ever capable of singing on key. Sometimes she reminds me of a bad paraody of who she wishes she was. Overall she is an insufferable name dropping narcissist who believes her own hype, as well as a phony. So if that makes me a misogynist your logic is a bit off.
i love kristen pfaff so much
Could you explain more why please
@@LS-kx5vj she and Kurt got close to each other shortly before his "suicide", and she herself died under suspicious circumstances not 2 months later. Courtney was jealous of her, read about it:

@@wombaterror wow if you're saying that it must be true. I have looked extensively into the courtney/kurt/kristen conspiracies because I absolutely love Hole and Nirvana. I think Courtney is awesome, but after everything I've read on both sides, I think it's totally viable she had a hand in something. Kristen's death is very weird and I wish I could find more information on the supposed tryst between her and Kurt just because I want to know what happened...
Kristen was a really underrated vocalist. She gets credit for her bass playing, but her backup vocals were clean, pure, soulful and full of longing. Her vocal parts were just sparse enough to leave you wanting more. I miss her.
How do you miss her? You never met her. You miss the idea of whatever kind of a person she was as per your perceptions of who you think she is..
@@whyyes6428 Presumably that's based on all the accounts from people who knew her.
I really want to listen to her work with Hole, both studio and live. I just can't bring myself to do it (I paused this video), since I don't want to hear/see Love & Erlandson. Even if there was no foul play (regarding her or Kurt!), they still treated Kristen so horribly. I'm disgusted.
Were you even alive when she died?
@@scottcharney1091 what did they actually do to kristen? i only know that little thing about her personal life that, her family noticed she always seemed out of place on the band because the members had a different "vibe/feeling" than her, and probably the drug use started because of that.
and i also know that eric said that "he did some things he regret" about kristen after she died of OD, but that's all. i heard a weird rumor on reddit about stolen dresses but that seemed like a fever dream, a revelation from the angels a person had because it seemed so messy and off. that courtney stole dresses from her after she died. it was written really messy and w no source so i didn't believe that.
Kristen Pfaff was gone too soon. She was the soul that Hole never had after she passed away. Their only decent album made it cause of her contribution and talent. End of. May she be resting in peace.
You say this because she died, people like to romanticize people who die young and junkies.
She was murdered by a crappy no talent corrupty Lusts

i really love the bridge of Plump its so beautiful + kristen bass😍
RIGHT! I was actually trying to study the bass from the record and its so good and was looking for footage of it. Kristen's bass bridge is gorgeous
Kristin Pfaf was beautiful.
I wish i could see them playing on this era ♡ Courtney is so talent and Kristen was a great bassist, her bass lines was so damn good ! And kurt was watching on the backstage 😍

One of the greatest rtyhem sections of all time Kristen Pfaff and Patty Scemel. Shame it couldn't of lasted longer :(
Definitely one of the most underrated rhythm sections of 90ies rock music. Songs like "Miss World", "She Walks On Me", "Gutless", "Violet" or "Rock Star" would have sounded even more powerful if the producers had given more volume to the bass and drums.
😔😢

They sound so great; Courtney is on it with the vocals. Kristen is on it with the bass, I sure do miss Kristen very much I remember when she passed away. About 6 months ago I went to Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York to pay my respects to her. You are missed Kristen very much, RIP.
The more of these clips I see of them during these few years the more I've come to appreciate just how good they were.
Thank you or posting this. I remember watching Hole at the Phoenix Festival and was totally captivated by this very powerful and heartfelt performance. For me the band epitomised the grunge/punk sound and proved without a doubt that Courtney and pals were more than capable writing great music. Happy daze.
Thanks bro! Very Nice You post!!!!
Yep I always say Hole was great!
They really did kill this set Courtney sounds super sharp Eric and Kristen really held a tight groove with another and Patty was on it as a drummer the chemistry and tight unit they had at this time honestly couldn’t be better
RIP Kristen Pfaff
So glad that Patty was able to get clean and sober

Killer set. Do It Clean is brilliant and Courtney's guitar work on here is excellent. A seriously underrated band, except by those who know.
Kristen Pfaff so beautiful, gone too soon. R.I.P.
Was never a fan of Hole, but Live Through This is special because of all the musical input Kristen gave (yes, most of the basic song structures were already written prior to her coming on board...and it probably wouldn't have been half as good if she didn't). She was an awesome musician and still lives on through her recordings. Heaven only knows the amazing music Kristen would have written through the past two decades and beyond as she evolved musically.
What happened to her?
@@dangrimes5078 She passed away a few months after Kurt died.
Yeah, she played a huge role in the sound of that album, and Courtney's reaction was unpleasant.

Thank Flipside Magazine.
Any way ya look at it, this is HOLE. And that name speaks volumes into the facet of the children of the 80s and 90s.
With more pressure than any generation before, they/we tried desperately to cope with the shit handed to us. It wasn’t our fault, we could only push back on an immense power that you almost couldn’t see. All they/we could do was try and not feel like we were jipped along the way.
HOLE for fucking ever.🤘🤘🏽🤘🏻🤘🏿🤘🏽🤘
Love Kristen Pfaff!!!!

Kristen was so pretty. The person filming this seemed to like her also.
Her screaming @10:15 holy shit

Kristen Pfaff was such a baddie. She's so missed 🖤
I wish I could go back and save Kris
Me too. I keep imagining Kurt getting away from Seattle with Kristen (was that mysterious plane ticket for her?), the divorce happening, him gaining custody of Frances, Kurt becoming the "rock Johnny Cash" that he had mentioned, Kristen being back with Janitor Joe where she was happy and healthy... and Frances growing up with a lovely stepmom.
Wow this is amazing... I was there as a 17 year old although i dont have much memory of it. I had no idea they played Pennyroyal Tea... A couple of months before it was released on In Utero
Kristen Alive!!! ^.^
Right around 13:00, or maybe a few seconds before, Kristen says "Hi Mom," to her mother who was watching from the side of the stage. Her mother (Janet) later wrote that she was practically in tears the whole time, as she could see that Kristen was clearly was not in a good mental/physical state (despite giving a great performance). It's so sad in retrospect.
Here for Kristen Pfaff
Why does Courtney say Kristen sold out around 27:00ish? Wtf..?
Kristen influenced me to play bass alongside Kim Deal. Two underrated bass players - also Patty is fucking unreal, another underrated drumner too.
✌️💜❤️🚬
I imagine because Hole were signed to a major and Kristens more hardcore band had only released on an indie and weren’t as well known.
^ yup, kristen had never played for a big label band on a stage that large prior to that moment. it was a joke
omggg courtney singing the leonard cohen line is so chilling. love

Kristen Pfaff was gorgeous
Кристен Пфафф лучшая басгитарист среди женщин ,как жаль что она так рано умерла ,вечная память!
Listened to some female bands or mostly so in Holes case, during My grunge phase and Hole was great. Live Through This is solid as they come, no throwaway or filler tracks just to complete an album. It still holds up today.

Jesus Mc Christ. I like Melissa but, Kristen's was force. Courtney was more interesting before wealth. I guess all bands are better hungry. People never give Eric credit for his playing or writing. Everyone loves Patti.
Is this the only HOLE concert available with Kristen?
Ever ask yourself which was a better example of a grass fed post punk band Hole or Nirvana? IMO Hole is the only thing from the 90's that still holds up as real art.
A very naive comment. The 90's music was filled with true artists....early on.
Dumb.

wow its hard to watch kristen,so much talent she shreds her bass for real you hear on the opener real good what a loss sorry to go on ,,i just fdound this
It's so weird hearing her do Pennyroyal tea ....
@Diana Moore Idk its not that it sounds bad by any means. Sometimes when specific people do covers it just sort changes the feel of it. Its also kind of surprising shed do it just because she has been quoted saying she didnt really like their band. Shes done that particular song a few times so Idk maybe she just really likes that one. Also at the time, her band wasnt super known yet other than the fact that she was married to Cobain. she was trying to get out of his shadow at this point and seperate herself from the association musically to establish herself so I guess it seems weird she'd want to do the cover considering that fact.
@@mattwilliamson1854 She co wrote the song and wrote the lyrics thats why
@@micnik4793 No she didnt. According to their bio, the song was written as early as 1990 and there's actually a 1990 demo of the song on UA-cam. Thats before they were romantically involved. Also shes never been credited on the album In Utero nor any other release of the song
You can see Nirvana playing songs from In Utero a few years before release. Good songwriters will often have songs or parts of songs written for years before they put them to record (and many more never make it at all)
It's so precious that Kristen's mom was there. She must have been like "I don't understand this kind of music but I support you all the way sweetie."
