Yeah, the books get gradually longer, but the artist also gets more time to illustrate. From Goblet onward he’s having 2 years to do the art, instead of 1 he had for the previous ones. So it’s not an excuse. The lack of illustrations in GOF still bothers me, especially compared to POA, which was overwhelmingly satisfying. I hope the same thing doesn’t happen to the next 3 books.
Seen all the films but never read any of the books yet, but always very eager to. But what really excites me about the illustrated books illustrated by Jim Kay are the characters especially when looking at the main characters like Harry, hermione and Ron they look completely different then the actors of the film and also all the characters. Which I find it fascinating as we are so used to seeing them what they look like but for the first time we get to see how they look like in the book versions and not based on the films actors. This alone makes me want to buy the books. The illustrations look really awesome and feel much more darker element to them compared to the films.
Have you ever illustrated a two page spread? Do you know how much time and effort goes into just a single illustration, especially if it's as beautifully executed as these and has to be constructed with the descriptions of the author in mind, down to the last detail... I'm way too poor to afford these books sadly, and for my own selfish reasons, yes, I wish they were cheaper, but, BUT. What you are getting for the price is such a huge amount of work. If you were to buy seperate prints of these images you would be spending a huge amount more, so I don't think it's right to say for the money you should get more, because you are definitely getting your money's worth. The work of the author plus the work of the illustrator together make it worth it, definitely. I think people lose sight of what all goes into creating something of this magnitude and start to get nit-picky
I think it's kind of a cop-out to do less illustrations as the books get bigger because he could just do more and more little illustrations that would fit on any page....

Let’s see you churn out 500 detailed illustrations in one year (that passes the approval checks of JK Rowling and the book publisher), while also figuring in time for adjustments and/or complete re-do’s. Oh yeah, let’s also factor in that the dude has a LIFE (wife, kids, etc). Think you can do better? It’s much easier to sit back and armchair quarterback something and act like you’re an expert, when you’re not.

I have a curiosity that once every few months comes to annoy me. Are the Hogwarts coat of arms and the four houses' crests illustrated in the books? It seems like people have forgotten the original Hogwarts coat of arms that was on the title page of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone” and replaced it with the movie one. 🙄
I didn't imagine actors from the movie when I was reading these books. And actually I much more enjoy artworks that are not bounded to the aesthetics of movies, because there could be so much more reimagininings of this universe

I had a whole set of the HP series, mixed hardcover and paperback, some I had german doubles of (I'm bilingual obviously haha), but I had to leave them all behind back in germany when I moved to the US so now all I have is the dvds and I miss my books so much. I remember sitting there as a teenager (a long LONG time ago - I'm 33 now) and devouring them, I mean I would read a book in a span of just a few days because I couldn't put it down. I really miss those untroubled times so much and I would love to get a set of the books again. I miss them a lot

These books are disappointing. The first 2 were great but then the third and the fourth were VERY... mediocre? There’s literally CHAPTERS without a single image. It’s called ILLUSTRATED edition. Better wait for the MinaLima Edition. They are so much better!
Stay on track! Before filming, bookmark pages you want to share, show them a long time to absorb the beauty, talk in depth about why you like that illustration instead of “I like it.” Then go on to the next illustration you want to share. Plan your time. Four books should be about 1/4 the time for each book. You lost track of time and spent so much time on the early books that you zipped through the later books, flashing pictures so fast no one could absorb them. I really wanted to see the later books. Yes, you do talk too much too long, about things not related to the presentation. Don’t want to hear about you, just the content.

I do agree the consistency of illustration vs text should stay the same, however I do think the illustrator (Jim Kay) should have as much time as he needs to complete the larger books, even if that does mean upping the price a bit. I’d be willing to save and buy them, I just want my reading/visual experience to remain consistent. Especially since Mr. Kay’s art is so well made and detailed. I hope he finishes the novels on the good balance of the first 3.

Hey i m thinking about buying the chamber of secrets in this edition. But I am afraid of spiders. Can you tell me how many pages more a less have spiders drawn? I am trying to overcome this so a few might be ok, but if they re always appearing that would be unbearable probably Thanks
The slip covers are ugly and I just don’t like plastic covers in general. They look nice without them, but the colors are in the wrong order. Red, orange, purple, blue. What comes next? Teal and then yellow? Why not do the rainbow properly? I understand why they start with red. I could like the second one green. Purple works great on the third. Teal on forth. Anyways either make them the same color, sort them as a rainbow or make big color differences so it’s far away from the rainbow. The deluxe editions start with purple for some reason... second is red. Third is blue. Forth is green. Hopefully they do a better job with the MinaLima editions. Starting with red is fine. I would want them all red. Maybe each edition a bit darker than the one before ending with black for the last book. Slightly adding blue for a red to purple transition also works. Who knows with the Potter books. So many book versions, but not a single english collection I like is for sale. Maybe they do fine for six books and then the last book color will ruin everything. There was one set I loved, but the series stopped at book 4.
You probably already know about them but you might like the Hogwarts house editions. It’s completed so no worries about it stopping half way. They alternate back and forth between the house colour of your choice and black.

the books getting bigger doesnt justify have less illutrations they should have more as the book grow and we pay more for the thicker ones!
