I have grown wheat grass and oats (separately) and my cat has a strong preference for the oats. When I have greens available for her, she has much less tummy troubles which makes us both happy! Fortunately for me, my husband is an agronomist so I have a nearly endless supply of good seeds.
That's awesome, and also wild how they have a preference in the variety!! The wheatgrass seems to help our cats a lot too, especially Carl who really loves having something to chew. The one we grow is "Hard Red Wheat"
Love the cats AND their outfits! This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I'm growing it for me, not animals, but your technique is exactly what I was hoping to find! Thank you so much for posting this video!!
Thank you!! That's our boys, Sam (the fluffy one) and Carl :) We've had Carl since he was a feisty stray kitten, and Sam we got from a local shelter when he was 1 year old. Two of the best cats in the world.
I'm on day 3 of trying to grow wheat grass for our chickens to supplement their feed through the winter, but I'm not sure how well it's working. Thank you for the tips.
I bought some "cat grass" on Amazon and the ingredients were "oat grass" is that the same thing? I just grew it last week and only had maybe a 10% germination rate so I'll definitely be paying attention to this. Maybe I'll have to order some other seeds. Of course my cats demolished what little there was.
The seeds might have been old or something happened to them. The germination rate should be much higher than that. Garden centers usually carry cat grass. Maybe you could try getting your seeds there?
Oh interesting! Yeah that sounds like bad seeds, or its just how that variety germinates. The ones we get are "Hard Red Wheat" and they grow amazingly! They are from trueleafmarket, aka Handy Pantry on Amazon.
Hello @OnTheGrow I would like to order these items on your website to grow wheatgrass for myself. Question, if I grow it as such without soil, which seems so much easier and environmental, and I live in a sunny place, will it grow without the growing lights? Gracias from Spain
also @OnTheGrow do I need to order extra "Silicone Reusable Microgreen Grow Medium" or does that last a long time. If I should order more, which size should I order? thanx
Hello! Happy to hear you're interested in this tray! They should grow wonderfully, as long as its a well lit area. It really just depends on the amount of light that is coming through. We have a few customers in different parts of the world that only use window lit areas to grow in. Personally I would suggest buying at-least a 2-pack of extra silicone mesh, since the kit only comes with 1-sheet, and with the shipping prices to Spain, it would make more sense to get what you need instead of having to place 2 orders. It would be the "large sprouting mesh" 8x10 If you have any other questions, please reach out via Email info@onthegrow.net - sometimes comments can get lost on here and we don't see them after we first reply.
I don't mean to sound ignorant but I don't have cats so I'm curious as to what the grass is for, please explain this to me. My son has cats and maybe it's something he would be interested in. I would be more than happy to grow some for his 'kitty kids". Thanks.
You don't sound ignorant at all! So some people grow it to juice for themselves, but for cats there's really a lot of benefits for them, such as "Wheatgrass is rich in protein, carotene, and vitamins A, E, and C, making it an added source of nutrition for cats. Cats often nibble on wheatgrass and leafy greens to improve their digestion as fibres present in these plants aid in smoother bowel movement.". Basically it's good for their health and digestion! Our cats love it.

I didn't realize you were back. I'm glad I thought to check.
OMG those cats were so totally cute!

I don’t have that light. Can I put it in the sunlight?

@@OnTheGrow I’m sure your source is better than getting them from a garden center as I had suggested. I paid $5 for less than an ounce.
Would I need 2 sets for cat grass when they eat it all or dies out you have fresh.

@@OnTheGrow wonderful. Thanks so much!
Hello, I tried it 2 times and the seeds never even sprouted-I just bought brand new seeds. Any ideas? Thank you
Do the roots not ever mold being in water constantly with no soil???

@@OnTheGrow Thanks for the very information, I will share it with my son.
Do you at any point add nutrient during the process?
Not with wheatgrass! It tends to get tip-burn when you add nutrients.
Where did you get your jars?
We sell them on our website www.onthegrow.net 🌱 they are part of our Sprout Jar Kit
Amazing 😍❤❤
