Nice... but a little spendy if you have a bunch of cartridges and need a click ring for each. Try using Sinclair die ring shims as an alternative. I use an inexpensive split-clamp lock ring (Hornady, Lyman, etc.) to get 'close', and then simply stack die shims to get 'dead nutz' on. I keep a folded over 3x5 index card in the baggie with notes on how many shims are needed for a given config. Very handy when you have multiple guns/barrels in a given caliber, often with different headspace dimensions.
Awesome life hack John! Nailed it. I often waste cases getting my Giraud adjusted just right and this will certainly make life easier! The time and cases you just saved me means I'm buying your drinks the next time I'm in town.
After seeing this video I bought four of them for this exact purpose. I am now reloading .338LM and I will be damned if I use up a couple of cases adjusting that damned nut. Giraud now offers die rings as an optional upgrade when you buy an insert. I will be setting these up for all the calibers I reload regardless of the price. Now I am going to do a couple of upgrades on the Annealer next, new potentiometer and a regulator.
I’ve been looking for a solution for this exact problem. Thanks for sharing this tip, I’m new to your channel and worth the sub. I don’t shoot F-Class but you have some valuable/interesting tip that make your videos worth watching. Thanks
Ahh, I thought I was the only one who figured this out! 🤣🤣 (Had one for a coax but moved on since using their click dies, figured I would adapt it to something... Worked perfectly, like in your case)
A video on adjusting the cutter head would be great. Viewed one on their website... I'm missing something. Even though its turned the correct direction, it doesn't cut well and leaves a burr rolled over to the outside. Tried scooting it left and right... missing something.
I switched to the Henderson so I don't have the Giraud anymore but here's how I used to do it. Loosen the blade (make sure it's facing the right way because one direction will shred your brass and the other with trim it nicely) and then push your brass down and use the rim of your brass to center the cutting blade and then lock it down. If you're not sure which way the bald goes, go to his site and look at a picture but it's weird because for me it looks backward when it's in correctly so it's easy to mess up if the bad falls out and you put it back in wrong.
@@FClassJohn The postmortem on this may be common knowledge but it wasn't to me... Turns out the problem was related to annealed brass not being cleaned before trimmed. A friend suggested tumbling the brass after annealing to remove oxide buildup. It seems those particles left behind are harder than brass and did damage the cutter. A variant of this happened to the expander if brass was not cleaned after annealing, leaving lots of galling marks. Looking at the cutter with high magnification, it revealed a rounded notch at the bottom, instead of a sharp 'V'. This explains how it rolled the brass to the outside. Replaced with a new cutter (again), and now its cutting perfectly. Interested to know exactly why this messed me up, but for now anecdotally knowing gets me past the problem.
Great video, going to get one for my Giraud. You mentioned something about when you feed a lot of brass using your “amp mate”? What is that ? Do you have a video about it?
Well, you'd best let Eric Cortina in on the trick as he stated in his latest vid on his new Blue reloading monster that, he hates adjusting his Giraud trimmer & wants to go to all 7mm cartridges. Blasphemy.
Great information. Thanks for sharing. Erik just posted a video about cleaning carbon with CLR. He said you had a good story about using CLR. Would you care to share?
Great upgrade but it really doesn’t help us as much as you with the non-custom chamber reamed adapter that 99.9% of us don’t have. With that said…Yes it will improve the Giraud but not to the extent you have shown us. I will definitely use this but since I am not a machinist/engineer like you are, I will definitely use this in my setup. That said, if u are in any legal situations…I may be able to help and save you some funds in those situates.😉
Thank you for the kind words. As far as a custom insert, check out my video on a guy who 3D prints them for people, his contact information is in the description. ua-cam.com/video/3z1lCtS5Ce8/v-deo.html
Curious, was looking to do the same thing but was trying to figure out which specific ring to order. Is that the standard click ring from Whidden or the Co-Ax version?
@@FClassJohn Thanks! I had been exchanging emails with Whidden on this topic. He was not aware of anyone having tried this. He had also recommended the standard version as it has a wider range of travel/adjustment versus the Co-Ax version. My only concern had been the thickness of the ring versus the amount of threads available on the case holder when the case holder is installed in the trimmer. Sounds like you found out that was not an issue.
@@454Bore No but I can take a look at it today however I don't see a reason why it won't work but it will definitely sit lower in the die ring. I'll keep you updated.
Wow! that's an honest to goodness epiphany. Why doesn't everyone have one of these!

I’m glad it helps you and that I’m not the only one who is frustrated by the old process.
agree and I ordered one. like what you did. makes the process smoother and in the end more time on the range instead of the reloading room.
glad it was helpful!

Do you by chance sell your pilots????

Awesome!! Great minds think alike.
Thank you for this information. This is STOS!!!
Great upgrade idea! Thanks! BTW the pronunciation is Ji- RO (long O silent D).
Cool, thanks! I have a bad habit of saying his name 2 or 3 different ways.

That's been the biggest issue with mine as well. Thanks for sharing!
Glad to help

Hi John giraud power trimmer as I live in Australia and if you can send me the link for them both as would love to get this sent up
When to that trimmer John? I want to buy it

Thank you!
What is the white box on the power cord near the plug . What is it use for.
John this is great. I am going to buy the die ring. Where is the video you have on the pilot. Thanks tom
Here ya go. ua-cam.com/video/wRiFBHUYLr0/v-deo.html

I love your channel. Thank you for all the information you share. If you don’t mind me asking what calibers are you shooting?
I only shoot .284 Winchester right now. I was shooting a magnum but have gone back to 284 now.
Eric Cortina says you have a good CLR story. Hope you can tell it in one of your videos.
Oh yeah, it's a pretty funny story. I'm hoping to tell it when Erik and I get together to make some videos at Nationals.
I like the concept. I just need to find a gunsmith who can make a shell holder like you use.
It's super easy to do if you can find a buddy with a lathe and have your own reamer.
Gonna be so sweet when you figure out how to mount that bad boy on the dillon
indeed it will, indeed it will......
I spent about an hour thinking about that last night. 😂

It's the classic Whidden click one, not his new Co-Ax version although I suspect the co-ax it would work as good.
