- In this video Paul demonstrates how to get ambient guitar tones from the boss Katana. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

I just recently got the Katana 50 mk2, and I am really impressed with the sound and features. I've been trying amps & modelling gear for years for home use, and Boss are hitting it out the park with this gear.. liking your work, keep it up!

Hey Paul, thanks for this video. I put that together with my Katana 50 MKII and a Harley Benton Fusion-II HH (neck humbucker with coil split) and it sounds phenomenal after a few tweaks. Keep up the excellent work and stay safe \o/

Paul, I very recently got my Katana Artist MkII. It has such an impressive *useable* feature list that it makes my head spin a bit. Your Studio Rats videos are helping me to understand this beast of an amp *so much* better than I’d be able to on my own. Many, many thanks! Great channel.

Love this tone. It reminds me of bands like Doves and the Boxer Rebellion. I wonder if you could demonstrate how to create an ambient drone effect using the reverse function with large amounts of delay and reverb

Im a new Katana convert, and very much appreciate the work you e done to help schmucks like me trying to dial in tones...
Im still relativly new to it, not very computer literate, and it IS a bit overwhelming, when changing over from pedalboards.
Cheers Joe. Just start off looking at the Katana as an amp, then incorporate the fx like you would a real pedal.

Hi Paul, I am looking for presets related to bands like Dredg, Dead Letter Circus. A kind or delay/reverb alt rock sound and Post-Rock/shoegaze rock sound. Would you help me to get these sounds in my KAtana 100 MKII. PLEASE

Hey Paul, awesome videos! On the fence with getting a Katana.. How would you say the sounds and feel when playing differs from Line6 Helix? Which one would you recommend for home studio/occasional gigging use?
llgms hi, that’s a really difficult question but the Katana feels like you are playing through a proper amp, the helix does feel different but it is way more versatile with all the different amps and fx. Why don’t you buy one and see if you like it, if not take it back and exchange for the other. I’ve owned both and prefer the Katana, but I am a valve amp guy and would always use valve amps in the studio. I hope I haven’t confused you any more.
@@TheStudioRats awesome, thanks for the reply! The thing about versatility and options is.. you kind of want those, but they can be a lot of distraction. You want a simple amp with a lot of options, haha. Love my fender princeton as a pedalboard platform, doesn't get much simpler than that.

Marvin's GearTV cheers Marvin, I can really recommend 2 x 1x12s as you can link the two up and have stereo effects, unfortunately the 2x12 isn’t stereo. I’m not sure about the delays being able to oscillate, but I’ll look into it.

I saw a video of a guy demonstrating a Fender Mustang GT (100 i think). He did some really 'out there' stuff at the end that I absolutely loved. I'm guessing he was messing with Chorus, but I'm wondering how you can achieve a wild tone like he did.
The video was "Fender Mustang GT Demo with Nick Reinhart" and what I'm referring to happens at 9:00
I know it's not the same amp, but I'm wondering if you could figure out how that crazy sound was made. I'd love to hear the Katana do this.
Hi Aux Orion, the first riff he’s playing is using a ring modulator, there is one in the Katana in the Mod bank.

Is it worth it to spring for the Artist MK II if you can, or is the Regular Katana MK II the one to have.
I personally would go the extra cash to get the Artist.

How can I monitor the stereo effects on headphones using the katana with the usb to a computer?
You can do that.
Plug your Katana into your computer to control the amp settings with the tone editor, and plug your headphones into the amps ‘phones/output jack.
Ive been doing this while creating stereo sounds. Let me know if thats what you meant?!?
Wont work on my Katana mk1 as you cant have delay and fx both on together....oh well
