>runnin' around in caves with my sorc on hell >lookin' out of a corner; "what's that?" >"ohh...a bunch of Obsydian Lords" - that's gonna be a a HELL lotta fun ahhh, the memories
This is nice, esp with the inexperience and modest items! Tbh I was pleasantly surprised with hell difficulty. Most of it's easier up to lvl 10-11 as you get so much money and experience you power up spells quickly . After then a bit of a pain, esp using stone curse repeatedly to kill those advocates on lvl 16!
I played through as a Sorcerer twice but I don't think I ever found the Teleport spell. Looks like a cool and very useful spell. I heavily relied on Flame Wall near the end of the game.
With Hellfire it's even easier because you can learn apocalypse and other powerful spells. But I was playing warrior and it was tragedy :D Without stone curse it would be nearly impossible to kill mages and succubi.
nice vid, very oldschool. BTW: belzebub brings a nice update to game with compatibility for all versions of windows :D It's a good mod for a fresh start, you get stash in town and potions system like D2. not to mention any resolution + widescreen support and the mouse zoom helps make it feel like the old school game on different resoltions
I always hated fire immunes, because chain lightning would just start fizzling out the arcs or not cast at all at higher spell levels and you can't downgrade it unless you get extremely lucky with enchanted shrines.
That's because the more points you put into it, the further range it gets and Diablo only allows 255 sprites to render at once. Stand up against a wall so that all the lightning bolts that go towards the monsters behind the wall immediately fizzle, allowing you to hit the enemies you want to hit.
Just finished this game on Normal in 2015 :) don't feel like playing anymore, items are all the same, just more gold drop, kinda boring, but back then it was something :) My build was pretty much the same as yours, except I wasn't using apocalypse as it s really expensive in normal. Chain lightning, fireball, mana shield and stone curse if shit goes out of control, but usually I didn't need it. Now, I m going to play more old school games such heroes of might and magic 2, age of empires 1 and whatever else comes to my mind :)
To be fair, sorcerer is the strongest character later into the game. He's uber hard on the beginning (weak, low HP, no accuracy, slow hit recovery) but the more spells you master the stronger you get. You basically need mana shield, fireball, golem and staff with apocalypse for a fun gameplay. It gets even easier with Hellfire since you can learn apocalypse from books. Then it's a walk in the park (mind you it's a 96' version of easy gameplay not 2016). Warrior on the other hand is super easy on normal but just painfully hard on hell. Shows you that D1 had pretty unbalanced character builds all because of unlimited acces to spells for a mage (no skill trees). Still a great fun tho'
Just to add, most wouldn't do hell/hell with soul burners. It was hard and took a long time but it was worth it. Most just quit and started over if they ran into them solo. f5 teleport f6 stone curse f7 chain lgt f8 fire ball. Just 4 keys (except to put up your shield).
Try holy bolt on diablo it worked for me and takes much less mana then others spell... Too bad bard/assassin wasn't added for the simple diablo.. Only in hellfire she was the most balanced hero
I agree...There was something about the simplicity of it as a pure dungeon crawler that the other Diablo games didn't capture. Adding an overworld where you spend way too much time searching for the next "dungeon" kind of took the fun out of it for me. D1 you just jumped directly into the action.
actually, soul burners are immune to magic and fire, and heavily resist lightning. You can still kill them with lightning, just use the cheap lightning and spam it on them, and advocates you can kill with fireball, they just have very high resistance, and are immune to lightning and magic.
So long are the days when games were next to impossible to beat on the hardest difficulties; now everything is given to you up front on a silver platter.
This game isn't really hard to beat on Hell, just max out your resistances and have good equipment. Today's games are like focused on leaderboards/rankings, pvp or achievements/challenges.
When I tried to get through I was going level by level, and it all seemed good until I hit level 10 and there was only one type of enemy on the map: Obsidian Lords. I didn't know they were immune to all, got cornered and killed before I could jet out. Suppose if I went the route of what we see in the video it would be easy but I hate skipping whole levels.
That's what VK Middle Earth Mod was for, before the jerks at Blizzard updated the version of the game right before Diablo 2 came out so that mods wouldnt work anymore. VKME was super hard. Nazguls and Balrog wipes then Apoc revenge slowly over at hour in level 16. Was aweome. Almost none of the enemies could be stonecursed, they hit like trucks, the Balrogs inferno almost insta killed. It was super hardcore. That would be the version to play, if we could still play it.
@@kaguyananbu15 You ignorantly leave out how many f'ing hours it takes to "max out your resistances and have good equipment". I've been playing my latest D1 character for about 100 hours and I still don't have the equipment necessary to make it through all of Hell/Hell.
Restart the game as often as you need, spam Adria with save/load, hit the shrines for spell level upgrade. Keep in mind the books are like 10k each and will only appear after you reach the caverns levels (i think).
Now you can with the GoG version. Although I was able to get it to run before...I just ran it as "admin" and I think I did compatibility mode on Windows XP or something like that.

Just wanted to show it can be done early if u know what you're doing. Level 34 is damn early for a hell hell run and I destroyed it easily. Shrines for spell level and thinking cap helped of course.
It always made me smile how diablo was not immune to fire, being the lord of hell.
Lord of terror
The irony
Hell isn't just fire. In Dante's inferno, the 9th circle of hell where Lucifer resides is actually freezing cold.
It's interesting how this game gives you this feeling of overwhelming power when playing as sorceror - except for the beginning of course.
I love games that grant players the overwhelming powers.
And I hate games that make players feel weaker as they process.
i love diablo 1 more than diablo 3
yeah!!! Diablo 2 is best with LoD
Everyone sane does. D1 > D2 >> D3
D1 may be better than D2, but D2 LoD...
