  • Denis Villeneuve brings us the next chapter in his epic (in the truest sense of the word) adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune novel. Dune: Part Two sees Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) unite with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, Paul endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

a few years ago, I pumped myself up and plowed thru the books. Every once in a while, on a drive, my brain was like, I wanna go back to Dune, to read some more about it. This movie kind of made me feel that way. I want to go back into space and see these stories and take some spice and raid with Fremen. Drink Spice beer and pillage and plunder. Denis and crew just nailed it. He nailed the feeling, the atmospheric tone and the action and interaction.

I thought it was better than Part 1 and an absolute masterpiece. As you say on every front it is masterful in every way and excellently paced with a compelling story that doesn't dumb the plot down or spoon feed it. For me its up there with the Godfather, Star Wars 4-6, LoTR in a master craft in cinematic storytelling. I cant wait to see it again next week.

Good luck to Star Wars and any Sci-Fi director on their next film..this has set the standard for sci-Fi now I’m blown away by what I saw at the imax..but this has set the standard and I hope it kicks a few directors up the backside because it had everything I love about sci-Fi verisimilitude to world building and great character development…the best sequel I’ve seen since the Godfather part 2 & The Dark Knight 🧡

I have to add another Villeneuve film to that list with Blade Runner 2049. One of my all time top 10.

@@BryanLomax 100% I forgot to mention that but in my top 10 sequels of all time..I mean I love Blade runner but 2049 is equally as good if not better…the sound design again is incredible…the guy is a master…it’s insane isn’t it…I’m just so grateful to experience it in this lifetime.

Dune Part 2 is everything that cinema needs nowadays, a well crafted sci-fi film that treats both the source material and it's audiences with respect, while showcasing every single dollar that was spent on it's production in every shot. You have already said in the past how Villeneuve is an exceptional director, the world building is rich, the set pieces are glorious and the storytelling is epic in every aspect. Performances all around sre great, my personal favourite is havier bardems stilguard.
However i cannot go so far as to say that it's a perfect 10/10 masterpiece like the rest of the internet does, ii had a couple of issues with but that doesn't mean that i wasn't thrilled, still 9/10 for me.
    Spoiler Alert
Whenever timothe sallamet was upping his voice trying to sound like a boss i was laughing because it's clearly overproseced in editing.
Secondly the hole revaluation that Paul and Jessica have ties to the harconnens, not only made me wonder where George Lucas borrowed certain ideas from his trilogy, but when the film ended i realised that it was pointless because the film didn't develop an eternal conflict on Paul's side that i needed to feel his pain when he basically killed members of his family, just have him go avenge his father and the Atridian name and it's better and more satisfying. Finally, the hole characterization of Chani that she doesn't believe Paul is the chosen one didn't work for me due to the rest of the film making it clear that he is, turning her actions towards the end looking foolish and she became unlikable. Still these problems can't take away the amazing cinematic experience i had with the film! Bring on part 3!

The thing about Chani not believing Paul to be the chosen one actually does work for me, precisely because I think the film is actually questioning whether or not Paul even is the chosen one. In the traditional narrative sense, you are right, everything is pointing towards him being the one, but I think the film focuses so much on the idea of religion warping and controlling everything, that there's a strong chance within the third film that Chani will be revealed to be correct; that Paul made all the wrong choices in the pursuit of revenge. He allowed ego and vengeance to direct his path. I'm not so sure he's the hero that everyone thinks he is. But I guess we'll see in the next film.
