This is PART ONE of a three part series of Joe Walker breaking down Dune 2. - We also have interviews with the Director and Editor of HBO's The Penguin - Interview with the editors of Deadpool & Wolverine - Interview with the editor of Alien Romulus If you want to know when they're out, subscribe.
the best movie i’ve ever seen in theatres. major props to the editor. i love what he said about dialogue, not rushing the cuts to draw the people into the moment & showing authentic human details.
I saw Dune: Part Two eight times in theaters. And, just like Part One, I watch it from time to time nowadays just to escape to another world. I cannot watch it enough times. These types of interviews only make me appreciate this masterpiece of a film even more.
INCREDIBLE video!! Joe is so thoughtful and it’s very interesting to learn anything about the creation of these films. He went out of his way to share some notes with me about the Lea Seydoux scene on Giedi Prime, I couldn’t be happier that he is the one editing the Dune films. Great video!
It just got better each time as you caught a new detail or nuance each time I have never been to see a film six times before. I went with my son. We were just blown away.
@1:50 Interestingly, that is actually Joe Walker's voice explaining the sandworms in part one. He recorded a placeholder but Denis liked it so much they made it permanent.
Dude I love Joe Walker. He just seems like such a cool guy, but he’s an incredible editor who’s put together some of the best sci-fi movies of all time. Great podcast
what a fantastic episode. this scene is one i think i'll remember accurately for decades and it's great to hear about how many decisions were made to shape it this way
it really is a marvel isn't it? the amount of love and brilliance coalescing that's necessary for us to get art *this* good shows why we so seldom get it.
This channel is every editor's heaven. Just to hear them talk that deep shot by shot for this scene is amazing. People say editor's job isn't fun, they gotta tune in here and see how fun it is and detailed.
This was amazing! By far one of the best podcast episodes I've ever watched - the combination of insane value + great editing and intercutting of clips from the movie
i dont care how many subscriber or view this channel has.. but for as a editor this channel is blessing for me .. learning so much from you guys.. thank you so much for bringing this podcast... love from India
Bomb episode! I saw this movie 8 times in IMAX. The way it needed to be seen. Sounds, visuals, and everything. One of my favorites. Great to hear from his side.
amazing work you guys are doing! these insights from people like Joe are so valuable. I've devoured this episode, thanks for putting up this great content!
Beautiful Video, thank you so much! It just hurts to see the premiere interface instead of my beloved Avid Media Composer, in which Joe Walker created this masterpiece! :D
That match cut detail is legitimately insane….so insane it’s hard to believe that was intentionally thought of while shooting. Much more believable that that’s a happy accident and a genius find by Joe
"Anybody used to a 'Social Media Diet' from the last five years will find some of this excruciatingly slow... Cinema is *not for them*." Truer words were never spoken.
Good job! Aside question: is it ok to leave credit on the end of a video? For instance, an actor’s reel, don’t know if I should insert an editing credit.
But, during that 45 day shoot, who was in charge of continuity? The suns location keeps switching from one side of the sky to the other. Even in special effects shots. Maybe no one else cares but I can't stop seeing it.
I love that all three sequences you're going to analyze are as much about other people's REACTIONS to what Paul says and does. Especially in the big face off at the end, it's so great how they cut to reactions of other characters like Jessica, Chani and the Princess to remind us of what else is at stake for them. Can't wait for the next two videos!
Sooooo good. So often as an editor you get asked the question: "What were you thinking behind that edit?", most of the time it's "I have no idea, just felt right". INTUITION @6:57
My friend and I recently flew from the UK to Japan, and Dune Part 2 was one of the in-flight movies. He watched it, but to my surprise, he hated it. How can I explain to him why he’s wrong?

The movie was so great that everyone who had a hand in it is so proud of it. That's really rare these days.

I LOVE Joe Walker and the way he talks about his work, it's incredibly inspiring
Joe Walker - love listening to him. Such a soothing voice. And an amazing editor. Not afraid of slow pacing. He and Denis are a perfect match.

Great video!
My wife and I saw Dune: Part 2 ten times in the theater when it came out. This right here is why. The attention to detail is next-level.
💯 agree. I saw it 6 times at the cinema and saw something new each time.
@@lauradeeley6682 It never lost its impact, even in the 10th showing. I haven't experienced in many movies before

I haven’t even reached the five minute mark yet because I keep replaying and learning so much.

That Free vs Rigidity between the Fremen and Paul (mentioned around 6:40) is incredible! So ridiculously effective for everything that's happening!
This was amazing! By far one of the best podcast episodes I've ever watched - the combination of insane value + great editing and intercutting of clips from the movie
Absolute gold. Enjoyed a q&a with Joe Walker and Denis Villeneuve in person and their sense of humor is excellent. Thanks for putting this together.

This needs to be roughly 8 to 20 hours longer please!!!
Thank you for this! Good job.
Cool t shirt!
Someone needs to tell this editor that he should do a voice audio recordings of the dune books in the same style of the film books in the movie
Best movie ever, and perfectly timed for an assignment I have on sound in movies.
He’s sooooo good
Beautiful Video, thank you so much! It just hurts to see the premiere interface instead of my beloved Avid Media Composer, in which Joe Walker created this masterpiece! :D

Hi guys! I recently became a member but don’t see anything in the Perks tab. I was wondering where I can find the extended episodes? Thanks!
Can we have a part 2 with the fight at the end??
🤫
Good job! Aside question: is it ok to leave credit on the end of a video? For instance, an actor’s reel, don’t know if I should insert an editing credit.
thanks I love it
Yes!
Maybe put Joe Walker in the title?
Interesting!
But, during that 45 day shoot, who was in charge of continuity? The suns location keeps switching from one side of the sky to the other. Even in special effects shots. Maybe no one else cares but I can't stop seeing it.
Can you share your intro music?
big w
pure Hans

Anyone know what his shirt is from? "Everybody is a Star - Socialist Media Group"?
Biblical!!
Most precious piece of shit this channel offers. Thank you for all of this
Thank you?
If you want to laugh watch this sequence in the original Dune film. It is NOT GOOD.
My friend and I recently flew from the UK to Japan, and Dune Part 2 was one of the in-flight movies. He watched it, but to my surprise, he hated it. How can I explain to him why he’s wrong?
I assume he didn't see part 1 so he was lost
