I swear this is the best synth I’ve ever heard besides Serum and it’s got those same type qualities . Thick and clear at the same time. And soulful . Great pads, grooves, noise etc. this does it all in a way pure FM or analog never could
It shouldn't be a surprise that it has qualities similar to Serum since it can import Serum wavetables without conversion as it has been indicated by Korg.
Superb demo Robin, just watched about 5 previous videos on this,
- and so far this is the only demo that makes me feel i might actually need this.
Incredible demo. I really want one now. Thank you!
Cheers man, i tested this in the music shop today and it is truly amazing.... The way you can alter a SINGLE SOUND/HARMONY by tweaking the waves defies belief. Am getting one.
Oh that sounds lovely great demo :)
Great demo. To the point. And turning the controls is very informative.
This is the MACHINE ! ... ( Layers of features ; perfect new sound ; good price ; good for beginners who love to search new soundscapes; add on for professionals. )
Immediately reminded me of my old Korg DW-8000. The samples in the DW-8000 always seemed to clip at the end on some of them though which was the reason I eventually sold it. I'm liking this Modwave, very cool.
Amazing sounds ! I want one =) My favorite of all the demos
very good demo
Awesome video, demo.
Great demo... Like the WaveState, I think this will be a popular instrument for soundtracks or ambient. It just seems so on target with those.... It might just be the presets though. Both of these synths sound awesome. BTW, if we ever meet, I'm stealing your shirts... You always have the coolest designs on...
I won’t let them go without a fight 😁
Going by the demos presented on youtube so far, the EGs and filter are up to the task for great basses and leads for all kinds of electronic music.
@@MoltenMusicTech as you should...
I prefer the sound of the WaveState over this.
Good to hear this though as my desire for it has now evaporated!
I'm probably going to sell my Wavestate and buy this. More waveform modulation options are worth more than wave sequencing to me.
Will depend entirely on preference as you say but you've yet to hear what MW is truly capable of. Being so open to editing is where MW is going to shine. Much like Hydra - wavetables really speak to certain synthesists and perhaps not so much others.
@@NicolaLarosa Are they mutually exclusive?
Interesting! Would you precise your thought? Is it a question of morphing span or sound depth ?
@@brunodadivore9606 now that the wavestate had an editor and 4gb ram for samples....
I'm torn between buying some cheaper synths (like the ModWave and the ReFX Nexus 4) versus buying the Iridium desktop. If you want more complex sounds, then why not layer sounds when recording?
GOOD SOUND!!!
when you use the pad does it remember your finger movements so you can save the preset?
No, it will save the settings for the pad, the physics and modulation parameters but you need to make those things happen in the playing of the patch. It doesn't have to be your finger, you can also trigger it with key presses and stuff.
I need the module
Great demo. I havent read all comment , but what is your thought about this Synth compared to all your analog Modular thing ?
Very very different - synths and modular are very different ways of approaching synthesis and making sounds so it's not really something you can sensibly compare.
Know , I have order my own one ☝️ thank you for the great demonstration
This has much more flexibility and performance features, but compare the basic sound to that of the Waldorf M. I find that there is something like a grey blanket over the Korg sound, as a figure. The M is sparkling full range in a good analog filter way. Much more expensive. But to consider.
Looks like Korg got down to Brass Taxx and is close to a shipping date.
Was never big on the older wavetable synths, as I just didn't find the sound that appealing. But given a few of the newer wavetable based VSTs (like Reason's Europa), I've been seriously impressed with some of the deep modulation and control features, and to see something like that presented in a hardware solution like this...well, it does pique my interest a LOT more, I have to say. Good demo, btw...thanks.
I agree, i've never really enjoyed them either but once i was inside this thing i really began to find the warmth and enjoyment.
Good !
Almost put mine on Craigslist. Forgetting that i loved it. So wish theyd make a 61 key though. Or a desktop module. That would be the bomb
Desktop module just announced by Korg 👍
oh thats awesome thank u
i haven't tested it yet. i really regret it has not any analog filter like the korg dw8000 they made back in the 80s. it sounds really "digital" imo BUT it still seems a wonderfull ambiant soundtrack drone synth maker ♥️
next one wavetable synth shall hopefully be FPGA based with analog filters
WOW!
that's sounds rich :)
It's a pity that a lot of the factory patches seem to give the impression that it's another pads machine like the Wavestate but I'm already hearing more interesting sounds on people's videos so I think it's actually quite a capable beast for EDM and electronic music that just needs a bit more imagination than Korg's sound designers. It's not just Korg that do that - Roland seem to have missed that the Aerophone isn't just for wind players who dabble in synthesis, there's also a bunch of synth enthusiasts who dabble in saxophony!
With how much personal input MW allows, its going to more Hydra - less Wavestate. There isn't anything wrong with the wavestation vibe but it really is a totally different type of synth and appeal. There will always be sonic overlap but the mechanisms are nothing alike. Wavetablers are going to enjoy this little thing sans the usual underperforming build quality. For price/form/feature set though - this is probably the only one of the 3 where I'd over look that.
Nothing but lame sounds. No good bass.
Plenty of channels have demonstrated it can do bass competently for this style of synthesis.
Any semi-competent synthesist will have a dedicated platform they enjoy for bass work. Unsurprisingly most of us are here for modulation specifically. Towards which this is great. Very great actually.
@@AcidTechnoMan5000 I don't know who they design factory presets for - certainly not me!
I think they are all the same sound engine. But different ways of getting to the sound you want.
So, if you own a wavestate, do you need this one too? Thanks.
I think there’s some overlap but also many differences.
I reckon a key difference between this and the WaveState (apart from the synthesis type), is that you can load your own wavetables into this, and compatibility with Xfer Serum means those, like me, with a LARGE volume of wavetables and Serum presets can experiment with those in this. The question I have is what more does it bring to the table? What can this do that I cannot do in Serum?
Wait a minute, can you load full presets from serum? Or just wavetable a?
It’s just wavetables. However there are almost as many complex ways to modulate the oscillators, then the synth has FX on top of that so one could, assumably, come very close to Serum presets with some work. If, like me, you have collected a great deal of Serum presets then this is an interesting selling point. However I noticed the majority of these presets share a smallish amount of wavetables. So, beyond the ability to push these sounds through a few famous filters, why not just stick with Serum? Thoughts?
@@adamgriffiths1703 That’s a damn good point. 😂😂, thanks for clarifying.
Hehe I clicked this video not knowing it was a molten music then recognised him by his sleeves
Sounds pretty cool, am I the only one who finds rhythmic patches annoying though? Like I’m a music, if I want rhythm, I’ll play it! Lol
You u are not going to hear creative melodies on here that takes really special talent. Most you tubers just play sequences and turn knobs
There is a place for everything. I enjoy it both ways.
Merci Jean-Luc! Same here, I find rythmic patches very annoying.
No youre not the only one. So do i. Its because theyre always over the top. i wouldnt mind if they werent so irritating and cheesy
I know exactly what you're saying. I love African and Latin music, so I don't want to hear cheesy stuff - no synth can play the real thing. On the other hand I personally love to create soundscapes.
The only thing that's stopped me from buying one is the hope they'll do a module.
The keybed on these mid sized boards really doesn't feel right.
so true. I've got both wavestate and op6 and i would have prefer a real keyboard or a desktop module.. or a smaller keyboard.. but with aftertouch!
Desktop module just announced by Korg 👍
About damn time.. lol..
@@maxchadwick7714
How many presets and does it have after touch?
250 odd presets i think and the keyboard doesn't have aftertouch but it can handle it over MIDI
I worry that the Wavestate might be just a bit too Hollywood soundtrack and not much else. This seems like it might be more useful musically.
@@geofff6671 Before having the Wavestate I was thinking the same, but is not. It's capable of much more than Hans Zimmer wannabe kind of sounds. I did a full synth-pop/house song with the Wavestate. Have a listen if you want: ua-cam.com/video/1MP4mz6dbuA/v-deo.html
hard to not want this even though i really dont need it..
modwave wavestate what is differrence ??? last one has 64 polyphony and modwave only 32 .... strange from KORG .... for me wavestate has better sounds .... BUT modwave is easier ....
I agree
I sold my Wavestate and plan on buying the modwave.
Korg ship it already blue ballers
The harshness reminds me of my mono Evolver
Sounds wonderful. But no aftertouch. That’s a mistake.
Sounds great, but also sounds like a lot of other current offerings.
Yes, wavetable synths do have a similarity about them. I don't think the sound is as important as your ability to mess with it.
I always thought 'endless messing' was basically the definition of synthesist anyway lol. MW will be so much fun with my hydra and other fiddly things. I may never leave the house again lol.
The Modwave or the Cobalt 8?Hmmmm.......
Both - they are different. Better comparison to the ARGON 8 to which i would say get this, this and the Cobalt8.
Highly subjective, but I haven’t heard anything from any Modal synth that Korg doesn’t do better. But their build quality has plummeted so there’s that.
@@jm6734 the argon8 simply sounds better imo. More hifi and detailed. It also feels nicer than these new tiny korgs.
@@VincentsVideoVisions Argon8 doesn't sound THAT good. But it is good, though not for me. I'm definitely liking Modwave better from these demos. I'll be a little happier in the meantime once my Argon8m has sold.
Argon and Cobalt have keyboard aftertouch which is direct way of modulation and beats Kaos gizmo. Korg "forgot" about AT, again.
If someone prefers to swipe some gizmo, it's their choice. I prefer my hands on the keys :-)
That sounds…………Molten.
The analogue basses sound too thin
They are not really it’s thing
Nice but most of those presets don't sound too different from each other.
Instrument probablement intéressant mais le démonstrateur absolument pas à la hauteur
Sounds sweet and looks like fun, but I doubt I can get over the cheapo quality and awkward form factor. Not a good investment in an instrument.
I hate that about these new synths as well. If the Modwave sells enough and enough folks complain about the build over email, they might make a SE version like the Wavestate SE with better build. But I want a module, I've no room for more keyboards. =\
They have suggested already that the availability of SE will likely be limited. There simply isn't the return in it. So the turnover will be extremely slow. Due to the modularity plus many of the mini-boutiques selling so well - this trinity of waves and states was supposed to hit the market demand currently; which it has. They are flying off the shelves and forming part of specific make up on a desk. So there is more merit to the 'will be along side a main board with AT' argument than some let on.
Ultimately this technology will presumably form the foundation of a workstation platform way down the line. But SE's are a fools game. They will be overpriced for what may be a subpar larger bed - and probably won't expand on these smaller offerings enough to justify it. Not whilst the little brothers are selling so well.
Its a business. Not to comply with a niche of big board horders who are of the older gen - not the younger mobile performer. Thats in no way meant to be unsympathetic but I think people have to be mindful of dev time frame/industry sweet spot vs the market and people moving on toward the next big. Combining certain boards makes sense. An SE version of everything and its brother - when they have already said they will not be doing modules, seems a little silly.
Actually if Korg had The Modwave, the Wavestate and the Opsix housed together under one case, as one synthesizer, it would really be something worth buying. But they didn't, so, now I have this crazy idea of getting all three of them and have them side by side in a custom-built wooden case.. All 3 engines next to each other, all 111 keys in a row and even MIDI them up as one true WorkStation.
The first time I clicked on the thumbnail to watch this video, UA-cam redirected me to their "paid promotion" info page and when I clicked "back" the recommendations list had changed and your video was nowhere to be found. It took me some 5 minutes to search and relocate it, but consider this: If I hadn't been so persistent, I would've browsed away and you would lose MY view. Now, do you believe that every potential viewer will be as patient and as persistent as me? Can you imagine how many views you are losing every second because of this YT shortcoming? I think this would be reason enough to sue them, especially if you're losing revenue because of this. Just saying..
I'm sorry for your weird experience - youtube is not always our friend
Sounds so nasty
Thanks for the demonstration. Perhaps this instrument is a signal that Korg eventually will stop making music keyboards for musicians, and will start making UFO looking CD players, cheap plastic microphones and electronic plastic maracas for all the bedroom engineers and bedroom music "producers" around the world? Only God knows ! ..., and I mean, if he exists and he find it interesting in some way.
I have no idea whether you think this is a good or bad thing.
Dude what the fuck are you even talking about
@@haddongaming9946 he's as high as the exosphere, lol
@@MoltenMusicTech he is "negging" the synth in hopes it might go out with him
The reduction of human input. That's what he meant. Eventually the synth will give you what it thinks you like, like Google.
Until, It gets your hands off the synth.
Can you even play rock on that thing. It all just sounds like pads, even the super saw. There is no place for arpeggiators in a live performance with a real drummer. They like to establish the rhythm, not be ruled by a machine. The demo doesn’t make me wanna run out and buy one!
It's so rich. Any one yhinklittle EQ
