I had Opsix benched next to Hydra a few weeks back and someone walked in with the Modwave. Thought I'd been sucked into a sonic vortex and left the planet or something lol. We really are living in a golden age for affordable hardware synths.
JACKED. I like the presets the most on this particular korg over the XD AND the wavestate. So much warmth overall . At least ti my ears. I. Looking to pick up my first synth. Something that can move as fast as I can think on the sax making loops and lines on the fly. I think I the op six may be the one .

I came really close to buying one to pair with my Analog RYTM, but I decided instead to get the Analog Four and keep my FM in software, or what I can get out of my Peak or Prophet 12. I’m actually fine with that setup. The thing about this that seems interesting is the interface. There’s nothing sonically that it would give me that I don’t already have.

Good demo. Thanks. Unlike almost all of the FM synths I own (TX7, TX81Z, WT11, TX802), this one doesn't respond to CC2 (Breath) and there's no way to map it, or as far as I can see, any other CC, to control timbre and volume with a breath or wind controller. While I don't always use them with with one, I like to have that option, so I'm going to give this one a miss, for now.

It would have cost virtually nothing to provide it, and would have resulted in more sales, which would easily have paid for the programmer's time.
I have a korg 01 w fd from 1991 and I love it, but its so heavy.. I would love to have a modern version, easier to tweak but sorta with some of the sounds synthesised acoustic sounds, which I really like, not samples - it has a magical sound. the sax, clav, horns etc does anyone perhaps recommend the opsix as a modern close replacement? or other suggestions? I would appreciate it! thanks :)
Thanks for the demo! It's a great synth, but factory presets are mostly disappointing, in my opinion. They should've showcased more useful capabilities of the instrument.
90 pcnt of preset sounds are useless, also how do you switch off the effects?? Is the VST version exactly the same , I don't use software synths but may get the vst of this as I , like many people have no room for another keyboard especially a poor 37 key one , and the 16 step sequencer is not enuff.

Ganz nett, kommt aber nicht an Yamaha FM ran, geschweige an AFM wie der Klassiker SY99.Hier fehlt die komplette FM "Schärfe und Härte" Der Sy99 fegt vorallem bis heute noch mit seinen 2* SPX900 EFX alle vom Tisch und passt perfekt zur FM Synthese.
I ordered an ERM multi clock from them and even though they listed it as in stock they sent us an email that said they would let us know . That was a year ago before COVID. Still no word no multi clock nothing . If you live in America look elsewhere. Peace Christo👽🐕🛸☮️🎶
What do you actually want? A DX7 or a modern FM Synth? The korg Volca fm imports dx7 patches, this one does, too, it even has a waveform to match ancient sounds. To me this sounds like pc users demanding compatibility with old Microsoft programs. This machine would have been fine even it had only 4 operators like the Yamaha tx81 because of its waveforms. But it has 6 operators like the dx7 to mimic the shortcomings of the dx7 which had only sines.
@@FuZhixiang if you mean by 16 parts that you have 16 midi channels that can play 16 different presets at the same time, then the answer is NO ! But then again nor do recent synths of any kind. Blofeld does but it is over 10 years old. Modwave does 4, digitone does 8. So that’s not the fault of FM but manufacturers in general. shame on them all. My question: if a synth has the ability to play 16 channels at the same time … shouldn’t it also have 16 separate hardware outputs like balanced 1/4 inch sockets? I mean if it hasn’t, don’t you have to record the channels one after the other ?
@@hermask815 That's a good question that I've never expected to come since I've ever been playing with none-FM synthesizers. As for your question, my primary thought tells me the word "internalization". Synth-makers might provide multiple tangible audio jacks on their premium models, but utilizing virtual wires should be a more cost-saving solution. At the master stage, they can set a pair of analog outputs or configure an internal USB soundcard for exporting the whole session without devling into any recording procedure.
That’s what you think. Me too. But there are these persons demanding dx7 compatibility. Why? I guess they’re only capable to load presets and haven’t grasped FM synthesis. They will get brain freeze when they get to a fully analog synth with no chance to save anything. The only preset are the knob positions when you turned it off last time.
First two minutes sounded horrible. Day later I watched the rest of the video and I actually think this is an awesome synth! Lots of organ sounds. Funky plucky stuff.
Honestly the VolcaFM (with a bazillion free DX7 patches online) sounds just like this. This probably has more FX parameters but still…same tingy-FM-synthesis sound that’s always weird-&-cool-but-unpredictable when a parameter changes 🤷♂️

I've owned Yamaha DX7s for 30 years and I can't imagine it without AT. It's a great feature allowing you to modulate the sound *directly* with your fingers, but nowadays, with all the technology advancements, corporations like the same Yamaha, Korg or Roland, tell you to pay $3k for that... So, let them take your money and enjoy that crippled keyboard.
I have a Wavestate which I love, I then bought the Opsix. Despite its great looks, it's hard for me to imagine even a 1/3 of these presets ever being used. It's okay if you like to make noises, not so cool if you want to make music.
Does a lot, does not sound very good. Not good detail, no depth. Korg does not care. They're selling amateur gear to amateur musicians. Korg: "Then buy a Chronos."
i'm torn appart, this synth can do much more but i don't like the menu diving and the very slow speed on the rotary knobs. you have tu turn so much for a parameter to move.

my first synth was a korg and after 20 years i played a lot. forget the presets...90% useless... but making presets is big big fun!!

It does support aftertouch, just the keyboard doesn't.

I'm not and I've loved the sound since 1983 and cant get enough FM. Cuts through any mix and layers perfectly.
