NYC Subway Map Edits: J train to 9 Av (Via R and D Lines) [Timelapse] - Experimental Map

  • Here's a map edit of something fun! It is the J train extension from Broad St to 9 Av in Brooklyn, via the R and D line. For those unaware, the J train has a connection to the Montague St tunnel (R train tunnel) and can access the 4th Avenue local line. Technically, this reroute is possible but the odds of it happening are rather unlikely. Still pretty cool though, and I had a lot of fun making this one.
This is a timelapse of me doing the edit of the subway diagram.
NOTE: I currently do not work for the MTA and I am not affiliated with them. This is just me having fun editing the maps, to give a visual example of how the subway can change in the future.

I think the only way the J can run to 9th Avenue is if we got rid of the Z, or build a new tunnel under the East River from Chambers Street to Jay Street-Metrotech, where the Z will run with the F towards Kings Highway.

Or just open up the old broad st to Montague (court) st tunnel that the Brown R/brown M/ J used.

The F line can’t handle the J to kings Highway unless they cut out the F to kings highways which would be a bad idea

You should do this one next: The Queensboro and Montague connections.
    Queensboro:
Have the N train replace the M to Forest Hills-71st Avenue, via the 63rd Street Branch. The M runs via a new tunnel from Roosevelt Island to Queensboro Plaza, and with the W along the BMT Astoria Branch to Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard.
With the N taking over the 63rd Street branch, the F will run with the E along 53rd Street like it did in the 1990’s.
    Montague:
This is a pretty ambitious one. Extend the C and E via a brand new tunnel, from Chambers Street-WTC to Whitehall Street-South Ferry (with a stop at Wall Street, so passengers can transfer to the 4 and 5), and have them replace the R and W along the Montague Street tunnel.
This plan also involves de-interlining on DeKalb Junction, with the B and D running along 4th Avenue while the N and Q handle the Brighton branch. For DeKalb Avenue, The C and E stop at the 4th Avenue track and the N and Q stop on the Brighton track, while the B and D skip the station altogether.
For 4th Avenue, The B and D will go express while the C and E run local. The B and E will run along West End, with the B terminating at Bay Parkway while the E continues on to Coney Island. The D will run via Sea Beach towards Coney Island while the C continues down towards Bay Ridge-95th Street.
The N will run Express along Brighton while the Q goes local. The Q will terminate at Brighton Beach while the N continues on to Coney Island.
The R and W will run along a brand new tunnel under the East River towards a new station next to the NY Transit Museum: Court Street-Atlantic Avenue. From there, the two lines split off, with the R running along Fulton Street, replacing the C to Euclid Avenue, while the W heads towards Church Avenue with the G, making all local stops at Carrol Street, Smith-9th Streets, 4th Avenue-9th Street, 15th Street-Prospect Park, and Fort Hamilton Parkway, while the F skips those stations all times (except for the express stops obv) except for late nights. This would mean reopening the Bergen Street Lower Level and having the G run with FULL 10-car trains shared with the W.
We also introduce the K train. The K will run with the Q along 2nd Avenue, from 96th Street towards Lexington Avenue-63rd Street, and then with the M towards 57th Street, before branching off via a new connecting tunnel towards 7th Avenue-53rd Street, and then run express along 8th Avenue with the A, while the C and E run local. The K will replace the C along the Cranberry Street tunnel, and run express with the A along Fulton Street. It’ll also replace the A train to Lefferts Boulevard.

Could you please do the to Staten Island via the BMT West End Line, BMT 86th Street Line, & the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge? I also recommend cutting back the (D) to Bensonhurst-Bay Parkway.

@@TransitTalkEXTRAS The should run local via the IND Crosstown Line, IND Culver Line, BMT Culver Line, BMT West End Line, BMT 86th Street Line, across the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge, to Staten Island. The many routes running on the BMT West End Line's portion over 86th Street & Stillwell Avenue should replace [D] service between Bensonhurst-Bay Parkway & Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.
