I think that Joe's last moments was directly dedicated to the people he crossed paths with. It was the representation of his love and dedication for not only boxing, but for the people that gave him his "tomorrow." Joe's flaming ambition was so strong that it even beat surpassed logic and reason, but even that wasn't enough to stand up against Mendoza. Near the last rounds, you could see that part of him dying out slowly, as each and every subsequent round lead with Jose's complete and utter domination. Yet, Yoko's words marked a change in the pace of the fight. The memories of his battles, both in the ring and out were starting to come back. It was like the old "joe" had came back. Instead of blindly charging in, he started to side step and weave, with a fervent persistence that even drove the perfect champion mad. Then the last round came, where Joe remembered every single technique he used, even the defense tactics he used against Aoyama back in prison. To me, it was obvious that Joe's intentions wasn't to burn away his passion and ambition, but instead it was much simpler. He just wanted to give the people who loved him one last beautiful match, which is why instead of closing his eyes on the result of the match, he closed his eyes after giving a farewell to the woman who loved him most. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I am Japanese. More than 40 years ago, I saw this anime on a rerun. It's still burned into my mind. I cried when Carlos Rivera turned into a punch-drunker and after the last fight with Jose Mendoza. I still remember. Galaxy Express 999, Space Battleship Yamato, Ashita no Joe I think Japanese animation in the 1970s is still the best in this era. Changing the subject, the historical background is the shitamachi in the eastern part of Tokyo in the 1960s when Japan was undergoing economic recovery after the war, but now it has become a beautiful town and there is no trace of that time. I lived in a town about 30 minutes by train from that town. The place name Namidabashi is still there, but now it looks like a different town. However, because it is a downtown area, everyone is friendly and fun. But the thing that surprised me the most was how well people overseas knew about such an old anime from 50 years ago.

This anime appeared to me at the peak of my Depression, when I locked myself away in my bedroom, wanting to be always drunk, numb to the pain. But, after watching this anime the night I was drunk, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was already training boxing at the time, but I never really had this passion within me until I watched this. I wanted to die, but I never had a reason to die for. Finding your passion in Boxing, Muay Thai, martial arts in general, or even any hobby is like falling in love. Finding your reason to live, to love, is the same thing that gives you a reason to die. The question is: "would I be willing to die for something I love?" That was the question that stayed in my mind the night I watched this anime. I managed to fight back my Depression, but there are days that it becomes unbearable. It reminded me how sentimental art can get us through the worst of times if it captures the grit it takes to survive.

Tange Dampe, Nishi, the children, Shirato Yohko, Toru Rikishii, Carlos Rivera, Wolf Kanagushi, Kim, Jose Mendoza, and the underused and badass Goromaki Gohndo. They were all so memorable and awesome. I know this over a year late and I know people will dislike this idea but I want a new anime for Ashita no Joe mainly for new viewers to get into this series because I read this series during my college finals and it encouraged me to move forward. I know it’ll get a toxic fandom but I want more people to experience what is probably my favorite sports manga tied only with slam dunk and with Ippo in a solid second. But this series is special, so special to me that Joe is probably my second favorite character in all of fiction. If we don’t get a new anime adaptation please just give us an official translation of the manga and a release of the 70s/80s anime on streaming platforms because a series this amazing needs the recognition it deserves, along with season four of Ippo and a new anime for Slam Dunk because the original anime never finished the manga’s story. But with the current state of the industry as of late it’ll probably never happen as sad as it is to say because Ashita no Joe is truly one of the greatest stories out there, but let’s hope for a new tomorrow.
If ya’ll love this, you’ll love Megalobox. Maybe it’s already well known, but Megalobox was created in commemoration of this manga’s 50th anniversary. The plot and characters are pulled straight from it.
I first got into Ashita no Joe when I was an exchange student in Hiroshima in 2001. The final image of Joe on his seat after his fight with Mendoza is an iconic image there, so it inspired me to read the manga (I wouldn’t watch the anime for another five years, and my Japanese at the time was basic, but enough to understand the story). I’ve always been a boxing fan (thanks to Mike Tyson, who inpsired me to also enjoy Hajime no Ippo). What I love is that Joe is a very flawed character. He’s practically Rocky Balboa before he was Rocky Balboa, but Japanese. I think he’s a very hard character to sell to younger audiences since he displays qualities that some would retroactively call “toxic masculinity.” Joe has undeniably been an asshole to the people around him, especially towards Tange and Yoko. But I wouldn’t call it toxic masculinity, but Joe didn’t know better. He had no education. Despite not finishing the third grade, he is still literate, but at times, he’d make Mike Tyson at his lowest look like a saint, but we still love him. Joe found his own path in his own way and the way it ends, he wouldn’t want it any other way. But Ashita no Joe is certainly a unique refelction of Japan after WWII, and by the time the series ends, Japan was about to enter a new era of prosperity, so a guy like Joe Yabuki had no place in that Japan, so ending him the way it did makes perfect sense to also signify the end of an era.
Director Osamu Dezaki, in my opinion, is the greatest director in history. I hope that if you have not watched the Treasure Island series, you will watch it and you will never regret it, because it is a work presented by Osamu Dezaki so that it will be an immortal work forever.
Just finished this shit after non stop watching for 2 weeks. No regrets. This anime is a work of art man like i watched hajime no ippo it was good but i couldnt see the ending bc it ended on the 3rd season but in ashita no joe i experienced that shit with every part of my body. I might watch that work of art again but the ending was wild bro at least i would want to see them after joe burnt to white ash.
Ehhhhh..... he gave me big lesson..... Iam 42 yrs...but still loving boxing and try to practice....No matter if I become a winner or if am still training....I need to follow my passion to the end......
Ashita no joe will always be the best and my favourite moment is when joe broke down for Carlos very touching Some anime’s in sports don’t do that sadly in today’s era but great vid and would you do a analysis on jotaro? Or girono
That carlos moment really hit for sure, also I’m going through the part 3 manga so if I love Jotaro enough I might do one. I already like him from watching the anime but imma see the original source for him.
Did no one point out that he probably got severe punch drunk probably from the Korean guy fight where his head hit the ropes 2 times and his second to last fight with the jungle guy where he also feel on the ropes from the back of his head. That was without a doubt a leading factor to his punch drunk syndrome.
It could be a number of things but yeah I used to always speculate that his fight with Kim Yong Bi might have been the catalyst for his punch drunk syndrome. However, it could have also happened in his with Carlos which is more likely. Remember Dr Kinninski said that the symptoms might take some time to show and might not even show at all even though the person does suffer from the illness. But besides Joe has been in too much brutal battles, Rikishi, Kim, Leon Smiley, Carlos, Jose
The best and my favorite sports manga. Joe's character development just from getting out of Juvie is more significant than ippo's more than 3 decade run.
@@raht9578 Ippo become sh*t and went downhill after the failed miyata vs ippo for the opbf your standards are low if you really think the current woli fight is good. the pacing is sh*t, character development is sh*t, you have mori trolling his own fanbase and his racial distaste towards african american fighters seriously, the only decent thing about it the season 1 anime.

Damn man I don't even know when the heck is Ippo getting in the ring I don't know what the authors intentions are with the manga. Some say Ippo is done and that he is embracing boxing in a different way by being a second/coach while others believe his coming back. I hope he does though but it might also happen at a tragic moment, perhaps if something happens to Miyata or if Sendo fails to best Ricardo

The only thing more tragic is what happened to the mangaka of this series and his family.
Yeah just looked it up well they are together now I hope

Life is tragedy itself
@nnnnmhughuuhhjiijj9457 that's very sad
the only anime and character that i truly loved from my heart
Well done
Joe yabuki is very talented boxer and a legend in my book
Great video man, love to see ashita no joe content, especially since theres not much on yt
I loved your video ashita no joe is my favorite anime
Such a masterpiece mann..this vid made me cry for it all over again 😭😭
I highly doubt it'll have toxic fans but people will probably be aggressively uninterested
If ya’ll love this, you’ll love Megalobox. Maybe it’s already well known, but Megalobox was created in commemoration of this manga’s 50th anniversary. The plot and characters are pulled straight from it.
Very good.
Very emotionality life motivational.
From beginning to end the story of joe yabuki is just a heart felt tragedy 🥺😢😭….(joe whistle plays)
This is my favorite anime of all time.
I was speechless at end 🥲💔
I think this is where most ideas from Megalobox came from.
“I’ll remember you forever~.”
Director Osamu Dezaki, in my opinion, is the greatest director in history. I hope that if you have not watched the Treasure Island series, you will watch it and you will never regret it, because it is a work presented by Osamu Dezaki so that it will be an immortal work forever.

yes. I am a Japanese person who respects Osamu Dezaki.
Joe yabuki has inspired me to fight and pursue my goals
Rikiishi Toru is still one the greatest anime rivals of all time.
Ehhhhh..... he gave me big lesson..... Iam 42 yrs...but still loving boxing and try to practice....No matter if I become a winner or if am still training....I need to follow my passion to the end......
Amazing analysis
Ashita no joe will always be the best and my favourite moment is when joe broke down for Carlos very touching
Some anime’s in sports don’t do that sadly in today’s era but great vid and would you do a analysis on jotaro? Or girono
That carlos moment really hit for sure, also I’m going through the part 3 manga so if I love Jotaro enough I might do one. I already like him from watching the anime but imma see the original source for him.

Great coverage of a great character! the story of Joe is inspiring, tragic, and mesmerizing!
Did no one point out that he probably got severe punch drunk probably from the Korean guy fight where his head hit the ropes 2 times and his second to last fight with the jungle guy where he also feel on the ropes from the back of his head. That was without a doubt a leading factor to his punch drunk syndrome.
you're right, considering he struggled with his weight and his blood getting drawn out is another contributer to his symptoms as well
It could be a number of things but yeah I used to always speculate that his fight with Kim Yong Bi might have been the catalyst for his punch drunk syndrome.
Good video bro
Still my favorite anime of all time
The first animation character in screen who make losing look so COOL! Ganbatte! Joe!
I am becoming a pro boxer because of Joe.
The best and my favorite sports manga. Joe's character development just from getting out of Juvie is more significant than ippo's more than 3 decade run.
Ippo is good but will never hold a candle to Joe.
L
ippo way better than this
it just has the early bird advantage
@@raht9578 Ippo become sh*t and went downhill after the failed miyata vs ippo for the opbf
your standards are low if you really think the current woli fight is good.
the pacing is sh*t, character development is sh*t, you have mori trolling his own fanbase and his racial distaste towards african american fighters
seriously, the only decent thing about it the season 1 anime.

Better and more depth than most western Comics .

Damn bro I cried at the end of this video
The only anime where victory is not about winning the match or having the righteous ideology but to leave the mortal realm with satisfaction of the soul
despite seemingly getting over rikiishi's death against Carlos, Joe never uses his no guard style after rikiishi's death
I watched this as a kid growing up in Shibuya Tokyo
Joe has created the iconic scene that been use on other anime
I love this fucking anime so much

This man is the guts(berserk) of boxing he's the champion
Yall know what I realized? 80s and 90s anime would be BANGERS with modern animation tech, if it doesnt change the story, for example there was this one Space war anime that was REALLY REALLY fucken good and I saw a basically rebooted version with "modern" animation and it was GOLD, I just cant for the life of me remember the name of that.
Reminds me of Patrick Day R.I.P
The best manga/anime of all time, along with Go Nagai works.
Where can i find this anime with eng subs ? The quality is amazing and the sub seems on point.

I want to know what is the relation about joker card and bad thing that happened to lion smiley ???
Is joker card symbolize to something ?!?!
He probably wasn’t at his best when he found out he didn’t pull the joker out of the deck.
I just finished this anime today 😔
Beautiful ending
Wasn't an analysis, but a summary.
Good job nonetheless.
The way he dies and the whistling places is kinda fucking scary
Ippo vs Miyati shall be the same Joe vs Rakishi. The friends and rivals
This is kinda a bad joke it’s not meant to be funni but when joe died his flame was still there cuz when he was sitting on the chair he didn’t fall
Good video. i is silent in ashita btw
If josuke became a boxer
