    These are my favorite kind of cars. The 919 EVO, the Ford Supervan, The I.D.R, and many others that were designed with no regulations

    I was lucky enough to be there for the record run. Amazing to hear the car sound echoing up the mountain about 3 minutes before it blew by. I love this car.

    I still love the Peugeot Pikes Peak project. I've watched the on board video a few times and thanks to you, I now know a lot more about the car.

    Sébastien Loeb is just a different kind of beast
    Imagine beating the simulated perfect lap time by over a second on a hill climb that most definitely severely injures you at least when you fall of the side at his very first attempt on the real track

    *Peugeot sold cars in USA years before, brand is known there.
    In fact, 505 Turbo model was quite popular in States.
    Lieutenant Columbo drove Peugeot 403 for 69 episodes :)

    Great video! Very interesting project and a impressive achivement. However i believe the old record was set when the race was partially on gravel, so not a apples to apples comparison. Monster Tajima’s previous record was also very impressive.

    I was very interested in this car when it was presented so I tried to analyze it myself back then. From what I have seen the car does have a front diffuser. It feeds air into the front wheel-wells, inboard of the wheels, and from there into big carbon-fiber tunnels in the door sills. The tunnel entrance can be seen at 3:58, to the right in the picture. The interior shot at 5:58 shows the left-side carbon tunnel clearly, with some electronics mounted on top of it, while the right-side tunnel is mostly obscured by the fuel tank. The fire extinguisher sits on top of it. These tunnels then go straight to the intercoolers at the firewall, and then feed air into the engine bay. Since the rear wheels are blocked-off with wheel arch liners, the only way for the air to exit is through a relatively large slot above the diffuser at the very back of the car, as seen at 7:28, where there should be a very low pressure helping to suck the air out. Very clever! An innovative way of getting more front downforce and rear cooling done at the same time!

    I wonder one thing about turbo and engine pressure. How much altitude this turbo able to maintain its rated power, and what engine PSI they run?

    • @raffriff42
      @raffriff42 2 місяці тому +1

      Good questions. This is what I have found -
      >how much altitude
      "As the aircraft [or racecar] climbs and the air density drops, the _density controller_ slowly closes the valve… closing the wastegate to increase the speed of the turbocharger and maintain rated power." ~Wikipedia: "Wastegate"
      >yeah but how much altitude
      Well, the TAI Aksungur drone is powered by turbocharged diesel engines and reaches 12000M/40000ft. Way higher than Pike's Peak. ~Wikipedia
      >what PSI they run
      Most racecars seem to run up to 3 bar of boost, although the 1980s 1.5L F1 turbos ran up to 6 bar (!) in qualifying (and die after one lap) ~"We had wheelspin in fourth gear: How to drive the most powerful F1 car ever" (RaceFans)
      Drag-racing and tractor-pulling motors can get more boost with multiple turbos (and intercoolers) in series.

    Why are brakes bigger in the front ?

    • @user-bb6xb3cz1k
      @user-bb6xb3cz1k 2 місяці тому +9

      If you brake, weight shifts forward. That means the front tires have more grip.
      Almost all cars have bigger brakes in the front for this reason
