- With the Parking Assistant your car will find its way in almost every parking slot. After pushing the Parking Assistant button or selecting reverse gear, the system helps identify suitable parking spaces and supports the driver when parallel or perpendicular parking.

My 2017 F15 X5 xDrive35i is over 5 years old and only found out yesterday it can do the self parallel parking! Wow!

Great video, just have one question, when you say stop the car do you mean to put it in the park? Or break to stop?
I think most old fashioned people can't use this system well they don't know how to use this system and young people are don't use this system.

We should be but there are times when this feature comes in handy. E.g. space is tighter than usual. And it's the only parking space around. Or, possibly you're coming home from a party and had a few "too many" glasses of wine...In the end, if it means ensuring you don't accidentally dent your Bimmer why not? No company is going to spend the money they do R&D this tech and putting it into many of their vehicles if they didn't think it was useful. BMW obviously isn't the only company to have it. Ford (SUV, F150) Jaguar ( SUV), Jeep Grand Cherokee, Range Rover,...maybe you're letting a friend or family member drive it and for some reason they never really practiced their parallel and perpendicular parking....happens...

there's a BIG problem/requirement here they forgot to mention: this feature will only works when it detects (which it rarely does) a specific 1 spot BETWEEN cars or a car on one side and the curve on the other. It will NOT park in bigger spaces for my X7 or any different scenarios. Kinda regret I paid for this, even though the backup program is kinda nice. Slow to recognize and execution. pretty gimmick.
Watching these videos on the new x5 makes us f15 owners so annoyed 😠

I just bought the new ix50 and this feature plus hands free driving are both a) not intuitive in the least as to how to engage the feature and b) doesn’t work about 50% of the time, which renders the feature useless at best.
I pay $100K for the car, pay a chunk more for these features and still can’t make them work.

Not gonna lie, if you can't park in those places yourself, you need to work on your parking skills, not use that system to do it for you.
Why not, there are alloth of drivers bumping against other cars thinking thy can park... every car should have this.

Sorry, but the parking assist is probably one of the most unnecessary gimmicks ever created to a car, that and Gesture Control. It's like buying a blender, you buy it and use it maybe twice, then it is just there without being used because it's to difficult to pull it out again

Nothing special about this system, VW introduced park assist about 10 years ago, nowadays you can find golf mk6 with this feature

Does this damn thing ONLY know how to parallel park?? I crept slowly past MULTIPLE gapped cars where it could back into and the only thing it wants to do is parallel park when there’s nowhere to parallel park at 🤦🏾♂️. I mean damn even a Tesla can park better than the ultimate driving machine…. I guess that’s the issue, they’re ultimate at driving and not actually being great at being parked 😆😆😆

You should drive one. I work for BMW of Ridgefield in Connecticut and they drive amazingly well. Lots of power and beautiful feel from the steering wheel, pedals, and paddle shifters. Engine makes great noises too.
