Your video came to my feed this morning. We experienced a few instances of the slide on our 2020 MLE getting out of sync although we operate it correctly and with the RV always level, before it finally gave up the ghost completely. When we brought it into the dealer, they found that the slide mechanism had been installed incorrectly, and they would have to replace the entire mechanism as the tracks and gears were damaged. Total cost to repair was going to be $1800. I called Grand Design customer support, and before I had finished explaining my problem the CS manager offered to pay for parts. This reduced the bill to $800, and the slide operates better and faster than it ever has. On a side note, the 2025 GD 22MLE no longer uses a Schwintek slide.
We have a 2022 22RBE and I’m guilty of not holding the button long enough. I’m always afraid I will strip the gears or something. Thanks to this video I know how to fix the problem. You did an excellent job explaining the steps. Thanks for showing us.
Thank you for watching our video Ed. Congratulations on the new 22RBE. Hope this helps ya’ll someday if you need it. See you out there. Tim and Virginia.
Hi Adrien, we are so glad that our video helped you out. If you want to hear something real funny we went camping last weekend. I was using the phone app to bring in the awning and didn’t realize I was bringing in the slide. I did this twice. Needless to say I knocked the slide out of alignment. The funny part was Virginia and I had to watch our own video to remember how to reset it. We followed our own instructions and fixed it in five minutes. Too funny 😂. Thanks again for watching our videos, please subscribe and follow along. We are glad to have helped and hope we see you out there. Tim and Virginia
Wow! What a great video. We love watching your videos. We just picked up our new 2022 Imagine XLS MLE Travel Trailer on 2/26/22 We live in PA. so it is still winterized but we have a trip planned in the beginning of April. This information is so much appreciated should we ever have issues with the slide. We can try this first. Looking forward to more of your adventures. Thank you!
Wow!!!! ….. Laurie …….exactly, CONGRATULATIONS!!! on joining the club of Grand Design adventurers. We are so excited for y’all this is a great travel trailer and memory maker. You guys are going to love it. Please comment back on how you enjoyed your first trip. We would love to hear. We just got back from our first trip of 2022, working on the video right now. Soon to come. We did so much we have two break it into part 1 and 2. Please subscribe so you get notifications and most of all…… Virginia and I hope to see you out there on the road. Tim and Virginia
Thanks. We just purchased our MLE yesterday. We were hesitant due to the slide drive system and it’s dubious reputation. We spoke with friends that had similar issues and discovered the solution. Your video clearly explained the reset procedure.
Hi James, a big congratulations to you and the new MLE. Have you picked a name yet? The slide was a very quick fix for us, and we had no further issues. Thank you for watching our video. Comment back after your first trip and let us know how you liked it. Tim and Virginia.
@@Safemaker1 taking delivery on the 17th. Having a second 195w solar panel installed and a 1000w inverter. Inverter will be wired to the outlets on both sides of the bed, above the TV and the outlet under the dinette. Most of our camping is boondocking without hookups. First trip will be 6 days over Memorial Day weekend. That will give us a full week before the trip to “real world” test all the systems and figure out how we will load it. Our current trailer has far less storage space!
Happy Thursday Amy, Virginia and I are so grateful that you were able to use our information. Once you know the fix it is pretty easy. I would be interested in what kind of trailer do you have? Thanks so much for this video, I just bought the exact same camper last week and am taking it out for the first time this weekend. I can say I am guilty of not holding down the slide buttons long enough. Now I know.
Hey Randy, a big congratulations on the new trailer!!! That is so exciting, and your probably setting up camp right now as I type this. We hope your having a great time. It is such a great feeling that first night and many many more. Congratulations again Randy and be sure to comment back how that first trip was. We are excited to hear how the first trip went. Tim and Virginia
@@Safemaker1 The 1st trip with the new camper was a success. It did have a very small leak under the dining room seat at the pump. The blue hose coming out of the floor that ties into the pump had a slow leak and I noticed water on the floor. It was odd because when I was running water from the RV site to the camper the connection there leaked. When I used the water tank and the pump it did not. Either way I tightened up that connection and the leak seems to have stopped. Probably not put on tight enough at the factory or maybe it came loose towing, who knows. I do and expect some issues with any camper (this is my 6th one) after all it is a rolling earthquake in a hurricane when you tow. I did not get the chance to use the A/C (its just not warm enough yet here in Va. ) The heat sure does work good though with just the 2 vents in the back area. The bed in this camper is sure comfy. I did sleep very well. I still have empty drawers and cabinets to fill with all the storage this camper has. So far very pleased.
Hi Randy, that’s great overall. There will always be something, if a minor leak was it ….. your doing great. But of course you already know that after 6 rigs…. WOW! Yes we agree, the heater works great. We were in 32 degree in the last video and stayed very warm. So glad to hear it was a good madden voyage. How does the 22MLE compare up to the other five rigs? I have the same trailer. My slide controller is/was on the other side closest to the fridge. I move it to where yours is and put a wall in beside the pump. Now I have a little more storage space without fear of hitting the pump or controller. Thanks for this video. My slide is starting to do the same. I am sure thus will be helpful with any Imagine model. Thanks for sharing, hope to meet to you someday on the road.
Hi Todd, thank you very much for watching our videos. We are going to do the same thing with making extra storage under the seat. Hopefully the controller reset will fix your problem too. Some additional information: Lippert has a recall of sorts on Scwintek systems built between October 2021 & January 2022. The shoes were installed incorrectly. Lippert will replace the entire Schwintek system at no charge. To determine when your slide system was built, bring the slide in all the way so you can access the inner seals on either side of the slideout. Pull the seal slightly away from the wall and look for a white adhesive tag attached to the slideout mechanism. This tag has the model # and build date imprinted on it.
Hi Carl, thank you for watching our video and thank you for the insider information. We will have to check this out. Hope to see you out there. Tim and Virginia
Hi Eric, sorry for the 6 mo delay….. we have a Ram 1500 Lonestar with a v8 hemi 5.7 and a 3.92 axel ratio. I get on average 15-17 mpg without the trailer and average 10mph when pulling. The air conditioner can be a little loud when it is on high, but has never been a big issue. Only late at night during a quiet movie. We added wireless speakers in the cubby pockets on the side of the bed. That fixed everything. I hope this isn’t too late to be of any help. Thank you so much for watching our videos. Tim and Virginia
Great video on how the slide is synched properly. Where are the motors located. It would be nice to see the location in case replacement is required. Thx.
Hi Nobamaable, thank you so much for watching or video, the motors are located within the frame of the slide out. Usually behind the rubber seals on the walls. Please subscribe for more videos if you liked this one. Hope to see you out there on the road. Tim and Virginia
Thanks for sharing this! Not only did I learn about the slide but I see a ton of wasted space that can be used! Can I ask what you paid for your unit. Everybody puts up the $46-47k list but it looks like you should be able to beat that by about $10k or so.
Hi Paul, you are very welcome. Yes there is space still to be utilized in this model. We got an asking price of 39k knocked down to 29k. It is my understanding that 25% of asking is fairly common in the industry….. but you can’t be bashful….. you gotta push hard. We went back and forth amidst three different visits to the same salesman and even still three different trips to the bosses office during the final negotiation day. We also got the Blu Ox weight distribution hitch through in. Thank you for watching our video. Tim and Virginia
Hi Old Koot, I think I agree with you. The new versions of this trailer now come with the 12VDC refrigerator. We have the absorption gas and electric version. They both have their pros and cons, it just depends on individual camping styles. We typically prefer full hookups so I think the 12VDC would have been a better option for us if it was available at the time. Either way they get you outdoors to make those precious memories. Thank you for watching our videos and hope to see you out there. Tim and Virginia
Hi WarDog, great point! We actually utilize two tie backs. The one that comes with it and we add one very close to the bottom to avoid that very problem. Happy camping…. Tim and Virginia
Be super careful that this wasn't caused by a torn off "shoe". In our case, the shoe jammed into the pinion gear and caused it to jump a tooth. The slides with extra weight (fridge, etc.) are just too much for this system. Our "new" trailer broke in September of 2021 and is still in the shop... You should have an expert look at the "racks" and look for signs of metal-on-metal contact (metal filings, etc.). These are signs of a damaged shoe. I personally would never buy a RV with a Schwintek! Can't wait to get out of this one as GD has been horrible to work with.
Hi TalonID, so sorry to hear about your issue and the challenges with repairs. WOW six months in the shop. Our technician did looked at the shoe, the couplers, the ceramic wheels, the tracks and the teeth and all looked good. But we will definitely keep an eye on that. We have since been on multiple trips and all working great. Again sorry to hear about your situation. Wish y’all best of luck and soon to get back out there. Tim and Virginia
This is very common with the Schwintek system. Every time you use the slide, hold the button for 10 seconds when the slide is all the way in or out. This retimes the motors. You can search for this on UA-cam and find the official video. If you will do this every time you use it, you will never have this issue. I see you got to this later, I posted this before the video was done.
The fact that this is such a common issue in an RV that cost $30,000 or more is disgraceful. I had this happen on the same trailer multiple times and resyncing the slide is a pain in the butt.
Hi MondaySkipper, I love the intent of the name, yea it is unfortunate there is no resolution to mitigate this issue forever. At least the current fix is somewhat simple even though it can be inconvenient. Thank you so much for watching our video and hope to see you out there on the road making those precious memories. Merry Christmas, Tim and Virginia

We went back and forth amidst three different visits to the same salesman and even still three different trips to the bosses office during the final negotiation day. We also got the Blu Ox weight distribution hitch through in. Thank you for watching our video. Tim and Virginia
I like this camper but I would prefer a 12VDC frig.
Don't forget to move bedroom curtains out of the way or it may get caught in slide out gears creating a nightmare.
Hi Tornado, you basically stated it exactly the same as the technician did. Thank you for watching our video and commenting. Tim and Virginia.
@@Safemaker1 I felt it was important to share it. In 2013 we had a super C with those slides and it was a nightmare.
