Hi @Bud. Not sure if it's just me but I can't access your website. Might be worth checking your side 👍
Strange. I have not had anyone else report this issue. Also, I have many people subscribing to my Edge Driver package, so it appears that others are able to access it. Here’s a link to one of the article pages. See if you can access it.
www.budshomeautomation.com/post/creating-a-smart-home-a-step-by-step-guide-with-smartthings-v2-v3-or-aeotec-hub
Both now working. Technical glitch or my connection?! Who knows. Thanks for prompt response 👍👍
Glad you got it working!
Thanks Bud for keeping the SmartThings community up & current on this evolving product.
I trust all is well Dan!
Thanks for the update info
Sure!
Thanks again for very nice video to keep us updated
Absolutely! 👍
cool. nice that they made it web based. I hope they keep improving it.
Onward and upward!
Thank you Bud. It's anzing that it took Samsung this long to develop thus web based app. But they did a great job.
Agreed. And they are continuing to make improvements. 👍
Thanks Bud as always. I am on HE now myself but I do support for approx 10 others with ST who have much simpler needs than I do. This new interface is a good step to making the current rendition of ST better although it all is a far cry from what ST and the IDE used to be.
I agree. It definitely needs more work, but as you say, it is a step in the right direction. Two glaringly obvious requirements are a backup/restore function and an ability to reboot the hub.
@@BudsSmartHome what do they have for automations now that is more complex like webcore or Rule engine or ANYTHING other that a simple routine?
@@tankthebear - Still simple routines. When I and other look to do something a little more complex we us the SharpTools App. www.sharptools.io You may be familiar with the SharpTools rule engine? It is also great for dashboards.
Hi Bud ! I see you have the Aeotech repeater listed there. Are you using version 6 or the newest ver 7 model ? .... other than that, does this thing help a lot with boosting the signal from the Aeotech hub ? Thank you for your time.
Hi Frosty! I purchased the "Aeotec Range Extender 7" viewed here: amzn.to/46Air3U It did the trick for me. I use it to strengthen my signal to reach my Ring Outdoor contact sensor in my mailbox which is about 30 to 40 feet from my front porch.
@@BudsSmartHome Hi Bud ! ahhh excellent ! That's what I wanted to hear ! ... p.s. - I have my hub in my basement, but all my devices are on the main floor, should I be bringing my Aeotech hub upstairs ?
@@FrostyTheBeerMan - you could do that. However, if you have ample Z-Wave devices they should build out a reliable mesh network. I would first try Z-Wave Repair. This article should help you find the utility: tinyurl.com/3dzfdaer
If you move your hub you should also run Z-Wave Repair to ensure that your hub re-maps your Z-Wave network for efficient use. Here is a short showing the Z-Wave Exclusion and Repair utilities: ua-cam.com/users/shortsXhr5e9WlDw8?feature=share
@@BudsSmartHome Good morning Bud ! ah wow, I did not even know that about them creating a mesh network, I will check out your url for sure, thanks so much for your time !
@@FrostyTheBeerMan - Glad to assist.
Hey Bud, thanks for the video. Are you able to answer this question: My iPhone presence sensors all show up in device list but they're all called iPhone. Any way to know whose iPhone is whose? Appreciate any help.
I used Todd, Austin’s virtual presence switches to identify specific smart phones. The virtual presence switch can be accessed via the V edge creator app. You can download the VEdge creator app here: callaway.smartthings.com/channels/e6e29aeb-2793-4ebf-b8f6-e37b69e32c61
@@BudsSmartHome Thanks, will look into this. Cheers!
Cheers
I don't see how to install new drivers in this new ST environment. Any tips on how I can install community drivers? Thanks!!
Hi Michael. You can find driver install instruction in the videos on my channel or you can also find driver installation steps on my website, www.budshomeautomation.com/ As a tip, most drivers can be accessed via the Quick Browse Lists for Edge Drivers. Link here: thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=Quick_Browse_Lists_for_Edge_Drivers
Also, go here: thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=Quick_Browse_Lists_for_Edge_Drivers 1.2k and click on the link under the heading "Getting Started" to download the drivers from the SmartThings Beta Drivers Channel. There should be drivers here for the majority of your devices.
Thanks Bud! I'll give this a spin later. Happy 4th of July!
@@paladinew - Happy 4th!
Hi Bud, I thanks for those links ! geez I was in the SmartThings app and had no clue that repair option was there ! Thanks for poiinting that out ! --- I have a question about the app... and it's something I can't figure out. I have a motion sensor and want it to turn 2 different lights on when it detects movement. Each light are plugged into a different smart plug that is in the wall socket. At the moment I have one working.... so when movement is detected the light goes on... but I cannot for the life of me get that second light added to the same routine ( I am using the routine command in the SmartThings app ) ... so I go the the app, go to the motion sensor, and click there, then go down to routines, and once I do that it shows me my current routine that works fine. I hit that plus button up at the top right and try to now add a second light ( that is plugged into a second smart wifi plug, this plug is plugged into a wall socket like the first one ) anyway, I can never finish the routine, the "save" button is always grayed out at the end.... so I'm wondering if that is NOT possible ? ... getting a routine to activate 2 different wall plugs ( those plugs have lights plugged into them ) Thanks for your thoughts Bud !
Try the "Create Lighting Group" feature in the ST app: ua-cam.com/users/shortsLzYVqw0XBGI
@@BudsSmartHome Hi Bud ! I just watched your video 2 times. I got excited, and then realized you didn't show how this works with a motion sensor. Ohhh,, please tell me it's possible to active that "group" of lights if a motion sensor is triggered !! Thank you again for your help ! - you are always there to help us all ! thank you for that !
@@FrostyTheBeerMan - Add all of you devices that you want to control to the lighting group. then use that group in a routine. Let's assume that you name the lighting group "LR Lights". In the subsequent routine your trigger can be the detection of motion and you response would be to turn "LR Lights" on. Does that work?
@@BudsSmartHome Good morning Bud ! Ah wow, thank you for that info ! I'm going to try this later today and I WILL get back to you on that ! - Wow, you are truly a master at this stuff, so glad that you are out there in UA-cam land and are glad to help, thank you ! I'll report back later today ! ( btw, there are ZERO videos showing this technique on UA-cam, this is a good excuse to add another video to your library showing how to do this ! ) ( I cannot be the only one wondering how to do this ) ! 🙂
Hi Bud ! well, I"m a day late, but ..... I just got the thing running like you said it would ! you ARE brilliant !! wow, it worked first try ! Amazing little trick you have there ! U gotta do a little tutorial on this, I'm positive far from everyone knows how to do this ! anyway thank you Bud !!
👍
Thanks!!
How do we update device type handlers now that groovy is gone?
Hello naelo4713. SmartThings is now using Edge Drivers. This allows automations to run locally on the hub. Please watch the following videos for more information.
SmartThings Edge News & Edge Driver Resource Links for the SmartThings Hub

You can also find information on my website here: www.budshomeautomation.com
@BudsSmartHome , I watched the videos, thanks. I only want Aeotec/Smartthings hub to recognize ring door/window contact sensor as such. I followed your instructions on a previous video last summer that allowed me to change the DTH so that ST hub would know it was an open/close sensor. It wasn't a custom DTH. I just clicked open/close in the drop down.
I tried to avoid this by installing Sengled open/close sensors but they keep going offline and I read that might be because I need zigbee repeaters/extenders or because the zigbee is interfering with wifi. Hoping you can help either to get my sengled to work (I have 32 installed on doors and windows) or to advise how to get ring sensors or another zwave sensor to work if I can't get Sengled to work.
@@naelo4713 - there is a edge driver available for the Ring contact sensors. The Ring Alarm contact sensors amzn.to/3QddQzZ are far superior to the Sengled sensors. I have stopped using Sengled contact sensors for the the same reason, they keep going offline. I have a robust zigbee network so I do not buy the notion that a zigbee repeaters will solve the issue. You can find the driver link and installation instructions for the the Ring Alarm door sensors here: www.budshomeautomation.com/post/how-to-install-a-smartthings-edge-driver-for-ring-alarm-devices
They have been rock solid for me!
The new Lua based architecture is using Edge Drivers. I have guides for installing edge drivers om my website: www.budshomeautomation.com/articles/categories/smartthings-edge-driver-info
Most stock device handlers will be converted by SmartThings (ST) to stock drivers. You only need to be concerned about the devices requiring Custom Edge Drivers. Most devices will function with the stock drivers and will be automatically migrated.
