- Today I am going to present information that I have been able to glean from my latest research about the progress of the conversion of SmartThings Drivers to SmartThings Edge architecture. Great video, this is the reason why I subscribed to your channel and I give you a thumbs up. I actually installed the edge drivers and did a 180 and uninstalled them because some of the drivers have not been converted and I was missing funtuanity on some of the edge drivers installed. I do miss some of the local speed that the working edge drivers that installed correctly brought to many of the automations but as you said if not all the components are edge drivers you accomplished nothing because one cloud driver will slow the complete automation. Keep up the good work and thank you

Thanks Bud for again reviewing this process from groovy to edge drivers. I love that Dome output sensor with related sirens & sounds. I’m hoping Aotec, or whoever gets that edge driver squared away! I will definitely be taking your advice & hopefully the drivers will be seamlessly converted so we can all get on with ST’S automations!

Bud, at the 7:45 mark in the video you show a black screen where you talk about getting the device name and model number and other info. Where do you get that screen as I want to see if there is an edge driver for my Kwikset 910 lock? Thanks

I haven’t done a thing with edge yet as all is working well as is.
I’m I understanding that the best play may be to just leave well enough alone and wait until the drivers become available?
Also, have you been using ST geofencing after the latest IOS update. I’m using Life360 which is working well but want to us the ST for monitoring.

You are correct. It is best to wait until the drivers become available. I have installed a few just for testing but I believe that its a good idea to wait and see if ST will migrate users to the new Edge drivers.
As for ST geofencing, I am currently using the ST virtual presence sensors in the iOS operating environment, however, it is still hit or miss. If Life 360 is working reliably then I would recommend that you stay the course. I'm hoping that the migration to Edge presence sensors might fix the current issues. I guess time will tell.
Thank you so much for sharing these critical pieces of info! I am still a bit lost, however. Most of my devices on ST no longer have a Driver selection option - I assume they've been moved to Edge. However, I have an Aeotec/ST multipurpose zigbee sensor that does show the option to update the driver, but with no available drivers found. How exactly do I download drivers to the hub, provided I found the yml files on Github?

Someone like me, new to home automation, would you recommend updating all drivers to edge now before I start my automations? I just have the aeotec hub and some groove lights at the moment.
The ST Developers have stated that most devices will be migrated automatically. So you have the option to wait, but if you intend to write your automations probably would be best if you delete and reinstall your devices so any available Edge drivers can be assigned. As you probably know deleting devices will erase any associated routine. I hope this helps
Hi Bud, I'm a new ST user. I'm trying to set up the phone as a presence sensor . I watched your video posted 11 months ago (Better, More Reliable Virtual Presence Sensors to Detect Departure and Arrival). Is this video still good?
The setup instructions in the video are still good however the Virtual Presence Sensors which I installed are "Custom" Device Handlers, which you likely know are being eliminated following the end of the Groovy IDE, which is scheduled to be terminated on October 15, 2022. I am using TAustin’s Virtual Edge Drivers. You can use Austin’s virtual device creator to create a virtual presence switch that then can be used to replace the switch’s that I was using in my routines. I have mostly all GE switches, motion and outlets. Why do some connect one way while others another way and they are all the same model and versions??
DrKrushr - What do you mean by 'some connect one way while others another way' Does this mean that some are picking up an Edge Driver and others are not? If so, this is a problem that is common to may users. Eventually they will all migrate to Edge. You will just need to be patient.

Noe - You can use TAustin's Virtual Edge Creator to make virtual switches that execute locally. Just follow the instructions in the following link: community.smartthings.com/t/st-edge-vedge-creator-a-virtual-device-generator-for-end-users/231786
