The Dies Irae is one of the movements from Mozart's Requiem in D minor. The Requiem was one of the last pieces Mozart ever wrote, and he died before completing it. Several musicologists have produced completed versions of the requiem since the original version was released. The Dies Irae was one of the movements composed by Mozart, and it opens with great orchestral force without introduction. The wrath of the day of judgement shines throughout the piece with various scary orchestral effects that heighten the tension.
This piano arrangement by Karl Klindworth is a monstrously difficult but fantastic showpiece. It demonstrates virtuosity and musical genious throughout: can you pull this off?
Lyrics:
Dies irae, dies illa
Solvet saeclum in favilla,
Teste David cum Sibylla.
Quantus tremor est futurus
Quando judex est venturus
Cuncta stricte discussurus.
Tuba mirum spargens sonum
Per sepulcra regionum
Coget omnes ante thronum.
Mors slopebit et natora
Cum resurget creatura
Judicanti responsura.
Liber scriptus proferetur
In quo totum continetur,
Unde mundus judicetur.
Judex ergo cum sedebit
Quidquid latet apparebit,
Nil inultum remanebit.
Quid sum miser tunc dicturus,
Quem patronum togaturus,
Cum vix justus sit securus?
Rex tremendae majestatis,
Qui salvandos salvas gratis,
Salve me, fons pietatis.
Recordare, Jesu pie,
Quod sum causa tuae viae,
Ne me perdas ilia die.
Quaerens me sedisti lassus,
Redemisti crucem passus,
Tamus labor non sit cassus.
Juste judex ultionis
Donum fac remissionis
Ante diem rationis.
lngemisco tamquam reus,
Culpa rubet vultus meus,
Supplicanti parce, Deus.
Qui Mariam absolvisti
Et latronem exaudisti,
Mihi quoque spem dedisti.
Preces meae non sum dignae,
Sed tu bonus fac benigne,
Ne perenni cremet igne.
Inter oves locurn praesta,
Et ab haedis me sequestra,
Statuens in parle dextra.
Confutatis maledictis
Flammis acribus addictis,
Voca me cum benedictis.
Oro supplex et acclinis,
Cor contritum quasi cinis,
Gere curam mei finis.
Lacrimosa dies ilia
Qua resurget ex favilla
Judicandus homo reus.
Huic ergo parce, Deus,
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona els requiem.

Ok

Mozart died WHILE he was writing this. He left it uncompleted and Franz Xaver Süssmayr composed the rest.
The music was too killer for mozart
I believe he simply orchestrated the rest, of which the voices were already composed by Mozart in sketches. E.g. Quam olim abrahae fugue from Domine Jesu, and the Osanna fugue from Benedictus (the subject and beginning of fugue were written by Mozart but Süssmayr did finish it, although shortly). Agnus Dei may be an exception.
Jimmy Alderson Even more ironic
Creepy...
Wasn't his last one lacrimosa?

"Mozart died after writing this" could apply to literally any of his pieces, as they were all written before he died.
We have a logical thinker here.
He actually died while he was composing this.
underrated
Well, except Lacrimosa. He died while composing Lacrimosa
Look, he was working on this when he passed away, but he didn't literally have an ink quill in his hand!! Geez!!
I just noticed Mozart’s face in the thumbnail

This is the Requiem Mass also. The Mass of the Dead.
So many video games and movies and made for tv movies or cartoons use different passages of Mozart's Requiem. I remember Disney Channel using the Domine Jesu part which they substituted lyrics talking about Halloween in a small musical.... so when I heard the actual passage later on, I was like... this sounds familiar.... oh yeah... Disney.
And there it is.
Not a final boss, but this plays in the second battle against Ivan the terrible in FATE/ Grand Order
Why do I feel like this piece describes how mozart saw his end. Rage, dissatisfaction, despair, sadness is all I can find in the start. After some notes there was just a imitation of aggressiveness, confusion as if it was written by someone else.
He believed that he was poisoned.
More like,

So how exactly did you die after writing this and then write this comment? Also i like your pieces but i wish you wrote more pieces in minor key 😀😀😀
Who are you?
Wait, 2 of them?
Wtf
Mozart: Into Diez Mozartverse
Mozart did not die exactly after writing this. He died writing Lacrimosa which is also part of Requiem, also known as Mass of the Dead. Someone else finished writing Requiem, most likely one of his pupils I don't know if I am right or wrong about that, but this is still an excellent piece.
Obviously, he coudn't have died before wrote it xD

he was Mozart he could do anything, he probably didn't die, he just went on tour in hell and heaven.
@@TheMiniVader XDDDDD
@@Real_SkyRipper Haha, right!
The funny thing (if you can call it 'funny') about this is that the piece was actually completed after his death. Obviously, it wasn't completed by Mozart, though.

Well technically he died after writing this, that's right, but he did write lacrimosa after this piece and before he died, so it isnt his last piece.
Btw, for anyone wondering this is "dies irae" from his last requiem k.626, in a piano version.
I love this piece so much, but this arrangement is out of this world :/
This is an Impossible-to-play version... can you make just an Advanced playable version?
or just GIT GUD
Well, technically, with practice you could play this. I hope that I just got r/wooooshed. If not...
its possible, but it so hard… You have to completely memorize it and practice every placement of your fingers. With enough dedication though its possible
Also the chords and the symmetry of the piece are way easier than they look, its just about slowly getting faster
You can almost hear Mozarts heartbeat in this piece. Pumping so that he could write...one...last...melody...

I’ve always wondered what else great composers would have written after years of experience if they lived twice as long... or indefinitely.

Happy SpookTober!
I can't stop repeating this intro. Grop, it is so good...
I love this piece. Performed it numerous times in the Smith Center (Las Vegas)
For me this piece looks complicated, but if they put a gun to my forehead and told me to learn this or else you’ll go to Mozart, I would learn it in a day.
I would like to request all the songs from the game Cuphead, because the game is well-made, and it has absolutely top-notch big band music. Well, I guess "all" is a bit much, so maybe check out these piano-heavy songs: Funfair Fever, Funhouse Frazzle, Forest Follies. My number one request would be Aviary Action, but it might be more difficult to translate since that's an actual big band song, not so much a piano song

Dies Irae. From Mozart’s Requiem in d minor. I love this piece. Dies Irae and Lacrymosa are My two favorite pieces from the Requiem. And even better, I’ll be singing this is Carnegie Hall on April 29th. I’m very excited.
I didn't knew Mozart can be that scary 😨
That was written for a Requiem (funeral Mass music).
Are harmonized trills (0:17) really supposed to be playable on one hand?
That wrong. He died after Lacrimosa

Latin: The languages that Caesar spoke as he was being stabbed.
Et tu Brutè.
I am sorry but I must insist on saying that Caesar said his phrase in GREEK.
@@blackbokis3064 ?
Dies irae litteraly means angry day
@@giovannidugo7594 When Caesar was being stabbed and san his adoptive son Brutus with the conspirators he said, "tu quoque mi fili?" or even "et tu Brute?" where both roughly translate as "you too, my son?" or "even you Brutus?". The legend goes that Caesar pronounced his last words in Latin, however it is more likely that he said it in Greek. The reason is that the Romans absolutely loved everything that was Greek and held the Greek language in the highest regards. "The Language of the Philosophers" was spoken fluently by all high-class Romans and private conversation or small gatherings were held in Greek. To the Romans, Greek is how we today see Latin. There is even one anecdote where Caesar sent messages in Greek to his legate Quintus Cicero (Marcus Cicero's younger brother) who being sieged in Gaul in order that the Gauls could never decipher its meaning. So yes, Caesar did say his last words in Greek like a true educated Roman :-)
Can y'all do the rest of the Reqiuem too, or at least lacrimosa and maybe Kyrie too?

W. A. Mozart's Dies Irae is the best of it's kind. I feel all the wrath in that song. Like it's raining fire!
Perhaps, only Verdi's Dies Irae can give me that feeling.
That music was part of mozart's requiem, the last piece he wrote and was left unfinished because of his death
I honestly thought this was going to transition into gourmet race in the first few seconds
*DiiiiiiiieeeeeeeesOooooooooooatmeeeeaaaal*
good October music !
i think that Mozart passed away from a horrible case of syphilis .
i do not know why, but i have heard that masterpiece somewhere before
super awesome video !!
1000 thumbs up !!
Dies Irae is about the coming apocalypse (the day of judgement) and was made to be chanted during a requiem mass, or mass of the dead.
The symphony that killed him was a symphony meant for funerals.
At least he finished this before he passed away
That lighting actually made me jump lol
What is the name of this movement anyway? :)
