  • Today marks the beginning of the sixth annual "10 Days of Pumpkin" here on the channel, and this year I'm starting off the reviews with a beer from the Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company (‪@neshaminycreekbrewing3903‬), and it's their Young Pumpkinstein, the 2023 release. This is a Märzen-style Oktoberfest beer that is brewed with allspice, candied ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. I'm not sure what to make of this one, as I've never had a pumpkin spiced Märzen before, but considering Neshaminy Creek's Punkless Dunkel was one of my favorite beers from last year -- and that was a weird one, too -- I have high hopes. Let's see what this one is all about!
    Commercial Description:
Young Pumpkinstein is alive and waiting for you. This medium-bodied Märzen-style Lager has a toasty malt character and is brewed with allspice, candied ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg bringing to mind freshly baked bread and ginger snaps -- a fall favorite around here. The bright pumpkin spices and classic German hops, Herkules and Hallertauer, compliment Young Pumpkinstein's dry finish. An Abby Normal take on a traditional lager for the fall.

We probably won't see it in our area, but if you're in PA at some point, and you see it, I would highly recommend it. Fun beer overall!
      Cheers, buddy!

Haven’t had this one yet but keep seeing it around. I love living on the border and getting amazing beers from both sides. That side though I personally believe PA’s wegmans have their beer program figured out better. The fact that they offer the usual mix a six but then throw in the mix a four with the tall boys gives them the extra edge. Great review and I’m excited to see the rest of the reviews. Cheer!

Yeah, that must be really cool being able to cross the NY/PA border and get vastly different distribution. I would agree about the Wegmans, too. The Erie, PA one on Peach St. was insanely organized, which is better than the vast majority of the Wegmans in my area. In fact, I picked up 75% of my beers from there on the trip, with only 25% coming from a few other bottle shops. This one is pretty good, if you see it around. Thanks, buddy!
      Cheers!

No doubt. It was one of my favorite during the entire 10 Days of Pumpkin. More breweries need to step it up.
      Cheers!

Wish I could get that one here. Sounds tasty. I am kinda surprised that more breweries don’t make a Pumpkin Märzen. Would make a nice transition from Fall to Winter beers. Prost 🍻!

I'm with you. It would make perfect sense. However, I think one of the reasons is they probably don't want to confuse folks. Some people who aren't into beer like we are, just think Oktoberfest are Pumpkin Ales, and vice versa. Doing something like this would cause more confusion. I'm all for it though, haha!
      Prost, Dan!

Saw you're doing pumpkin lagers this year and thought just no it shouldn't be. But as i was enjoying the Oktoberfest Marzens this year thought this would work as a pumpkin beer, so yes. If I see one, I'll pick up..

The way I look at Pumpkin Lagers is that they're a more drinkable pumpkin beer. The crisp nature of the mouthfeel, not to mention the clean finish, really helps me enjoy them. If I had to pick one pumpkin beer to session, this one would've been in the conversation. If you go grab it, let me know what you think!
      Cheers again, Jeff!

I haven’t had this one but I did have the Punkless Dunkel. I really enjoyed the Dunkel. I thought it was a very unique and complex pumpkin beer. My only “constructive criticism” was I would have liked a bit more pumpkin/gourd flavor. I have a review of it coming out the last week of the month. I’m going to look for this one now. I don’t remember seeing it though.
    Cheers Joe! 🍻

I would tend to agree on the Punkless Dunkel, but I'd probably apply that to a lot of pumpkin beers. That said, I feel the actual gourd/pumpkin flavor isn't all that prominent in most pumpkin beers for me. Just a bit of earthiness. I feel the impact is more with the body and mouthfeel. When there's actual gourd in the beer, it really helps those two. If you do see this one, whether this year or next, give it a go. Fun beer!
      Cheers, Ryan!
