    Great idea! This would be great for backing and for charity quilts, too.
    I'm impressed that you pronounce sewing terms carefully.
    Just remember:
    Salvage > salvation > saving items from the landfill
    Selvage > self edge > the finished edge of fabric made when the weaving turns back on itSELF to go the other way.

But that was not going to deter me - I bought it anyway, and over time, accented it with pieces from my stash and yes, even bought a yard or two as accents - ended up making a fabulous quilt top and loved the drama of it. Made a full size top for something like 9 dollars. Loved that

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  7 місяців тому +1

      You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
      Great question. I probably should have explained that a bit more. With an envelope turn, you don't add binding. Here are the steps: 1. Lay batting down on a floor or table big enough to accommodate it 2. lay the quilt top face up on top of the batting 3. lay the backing with the pretty side down on top of the quilt top (with pretty sides facing each other) 4. pin and sew around the edges of the three layered pieces, leaving about a 6" opening to turn 5. turn the quilt 6. press and quilt the quilt as desired, including sewing up the hole used for turning.
      I hope this helps! Let me know if you need clarification on anything. ❤️

    Hi, I was hoping you could help me. I would like to make a memory quilt with my parents clothes, I have mixed fabric and some corduroy don’t know what kind of pattern to use and I was planning on printing some pictures on fabric too. Thank you for any help you can provide

      Oh wow. How wonderful! Unfortunately, I have very little experience working with heavier fabrics. I wish I could help!

    Love your tutorial but my question is about the baby quilt you made. You mentioned double knit gauze which I am not familiar with. Are the fabrics on both sides of that baby quilt made of gauze? Or are the two prints regular 100% cotton? I had heard Tracy mention it in a video but had not yet researched it. I normally use flannel for baby blankets but my best friend is becoming a grandma for the first time and I want to sew something a little different and special. I live very rural in Oregon and there are no fabric stores close so all has to be ordered. Can you tell me what I am searching for and do you have recommendations where I should look? And last question, did you prewash your baby quilt fabric or just wash after it was all done? Thank you for the help.

      Hi! Great questions! I used the double-knit gauze on the back only. I am not sure how it would be on the front, but I am sure you could try it. If it is your first time working with double knit gauze, however, I would only use it on the back until you get used to it. It is sometimes called Bubble Gauze and is usually near the baby fabric section of fabric stores. You can get it at Joann Fabrics, and I believe you can even order from their website. Here is a link to what you are looking for: www.joann.com/green-swirl-dot-bubble-gauze-swaddle-fabric/19290147.html . As for washing baby quilts, I usually wash them after I finish binding them. I use a very mild detergent and let the new parents know what is was washed in, how I washed it, etc. and remind them that the quilt is meant to be used. ❤️ I hope this helps! Let me know if you have another other questions!

    So neat. Where would you get the gauze for the back of the quilt? Thank you

      Thank you! I got the gauze at Hobby Lobby for this project, but you can get it online or at Joann's. It's called Double Knit Gauze. It is wonderful!

    Can I pick your brain? I think I’m going to attempt a log cabin. What is the deal with the varying center square size? Is there a “correct” proportion? I’ve seen same size as the logs, twice the width and your video on the very old log cabin had the center at three inches with one inch logs…is it just whatever floats my boat?

      Great question and observations! Yes, it is basically whatever floats your boat. There are so many variations that you can't go wrong. I do have a log cabin tutorial if you are interested. I made it with a jelly roll. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/jJdUk1ieV4s/v-deo.html Hope this helps!

    How long are the strips I think I cut my fabric wrong

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  Рік тому

      The strips are the width of fabric, so anywhere from 42”-44” depending on the print. You will have to trim them up on the ends after you are finished sewing. Hope this helps!
