Thank you for all of your encouragement. I have been collecting finishing supplies for over a year. Two weeks ago I finally started finishing. I ordered a black pencil tree and created a Halloween tree which has 15 stitched and finished ornaments. I am a perfectionist and couldn’t come to grips with not being perfect. I am very happy with how they all turned out. Thank you for all you have done for this community…Scharerthestitching

Hi, Annie, Great encouraging video for finishing our pieces. Thank you for taking the extra time to record and share. Practice and doing the finishing ourselves builds our confidence and as you referenced, tutorials and written instructions help immensely. Estate sales and thrift stores are great places to look for finishing items and sometimes supplies. I love finding a treasure to repurpose. Take care and Happy Stitching! 🧵

This is an excellent video. You did a great job making us feel like you were having a conversation with us. I appreciated that you polled your viewers first, really listened, and answered what was asked. It's a great way to approach the platform you are trying to deliver. Also, the simplicity of your delivery, along with the personal approach, made for a very helpful video. I love that you are talking to us as one of us, and not as an expert or professional, yet you had very helpful hints and more importantly, INSPIRATION and ENCOURAGEMENT, "Give yourself some grace", and even some tough love i.e., "your pieces are not going to be in a museum". This is a much-needed space on Flosstube. I would love to see you do live videos as part of your portfolio. Thank you.

Thank you so much!! I struggled with the delivery, but I ave always found that you should just be yourself. That's what I do. I think you all could tell if I tried to be someone I'm not. I really appreciate you

Thank you Annie for so many helpful ideas for getting our stitching finished. I happen to like the creativity of doing my own finishing but I can learn so much from others for techniques, tools to use and not to be obsessed if there is a wavy line somewhere. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming tutorials next😀

Thank you for this video! I have so many notes written down for I have a lot of smalls to finish and this was so helpful. Especially the practice on a piece of extra linen and fabric. You broke everything down to make it not as intimidating as it seems so thank you. Also the emphasis on not being “perfect “ is great advice. My Mom loves everything I stitch and even I’d there is a mistake, she just puts it on display in her house. My Mom looks at it and just thinks of the time and care that I put into stitching something not the perfection.

Great video, Annie! Lori Holt also has a video about lacing that people may want to check out. My philosophy is that there is no such thing as perfect. And that is especially true with handmade items. So those who are "perfectionists" are trying to reach a standard that doesn't exist. It's important to accept "good enough." Just enjoy the process. Trying to get something "perfect" takes the joy out of it!

Hi Annie. You don’t know how much I needed this! This is the first time I’ve seen your video because I’m pretty new at cross stitching but I know that I love it. I’m a sewist and a crafter and when my daughter asked me if I could Crosstitch a Jim Henson piece for my granddaughters room I gladly excepted the challenge. The only thing was she wanted me to make it larger than the pattern because it would finish much smaller than she wanted. I asked around and nobody knew how to make the pdf pattern bigger so I took it upon myself to draw the characters and trace them on the Aida cloth. It took me a year just working on it some evenings. Needless to say I had many many mistakes that I had to redo because after all I am a perfectionist, as is the topic of this video. I’m almost finished and I am going to accept it as it is because my daughter and 2 year old granddaughter love it and that’s what counts, right?!
My next step is to frame it and you’ve given me the inspiration to do it. Obviously I subscribed because you’re a great motivational speaker as well as teacher💕🤗from Canada 🇨🇦

Nice video Annie! My biggest problem, unless it’s obvious like framing, is how to fully finish a project. But what I’ve started doing is adding to the project bag things I might come across that are potential finishing supplies, like the accent fabric, a backer I picked up or a trim. I also save a lot of examples from Facebook groups or Instagram, taking screen shots of finishes I may want to copy for that project... You can’t beat tutorials to pick up tips and tricks. I think I have a great idea I'm going to try. You said something about once a month for finishing, so I'm thinking of ending the month with a finishing day. Retired, still incredibly busy with a secondary business, grandkids, church, etc., Some of my time is adjustable so I'm looking at the last day of this month being for some finishing...just 2-3 things but I think this could work. This waiting till I have time or inspiration is not working. But, this could. Thank you for the idea boost. I'll chime in when I see how it goes!

You may think I’m cheap but I go to the dollar store for something’s I use and then maybe go to Michael’s and then Joann’s and I use my coupons and then I go to Etsy for fabrics and buttons. I take my cross stitching with me . Went I go for a wood or mats I take my project and make it in the craft store , like my fabric and my trim or paints for the wood . I hoped I helped someone . I’m a single special needs mom tats why I take it to the craft store and that way I don’t spend a lot .

You inspired me to pull out my finishes and work on fully finishing and I saw a squirrel and started kitting up new projects instead. 😅😅😅 Seriously thank you for all the great suggestions. Have you made any drawstring bags?

Excellent tips for finishing. I worry about dust getting on my pieces and I always want to put them behind glass. What advice would you give to get over that worry? Again, this was a very informative video. Thank you for doing this.

I don't worry about the smaller pieces. You can lightly dust it or use a lint roller in them. I just don't think about it 😂

Annie. I was just thinking the other day have you decided where you are moving too? How's that process going?

Hi Annie- Just trying out the Floss Bags - do you store your threads in those or only use as you work a project?

    • @theproperstitcher
      @theproperstitcher  2 роки тому +1

I do not store them in the floss bag unless I already pulled from the skein. So once I start to use them they stay in the bag

Thanks for this video, Annie. I did not know you could cut sticky board with a guillotine cutter! I have a guillotine cutter but don't know if it's heavy duty enough to cut sticky board. Would you care to share the model number of your Swingline cutter? There are so many different guillotine cutters out there with all different prices. I would like to find one that will cut the board but not be overly expensive. 🙂 Those wheeled carts are fantastic. Do you know what I used mine for? After my neck surgery I put it next to my recliner and put small things that I didn't want to lose or drop in the top shelf along with my drink. The second shelf had my kleenex box, my phone, the TV remotes and maybe a magazine or two. They are very versatile!

I put the link in the show notes. I purchased mine at an office supply store but you can get it on Amazon. I leave the paper on the sticky board while cutting
