  • Cable companies are trying to create an unequal playing field for internet speeds, but they're doing it so boringly that most news outlets aren't covering it.
John Oliver explains the controversy and lets viewers know how they can voice their displeasure to the FCC.

Within about 3 hours of this video being posted, the FCC commentary page experienced total bandwidth overdraw, which took down the front facing servers of their organization, effectively inducing a DDoS attack that destroyed the entire FCC.gov domain.
John Oliver has done the unthinkable. He harnessed the terrible, awesome raw power of Internet trolling!!

The US government has been trying for a solid decade or so to remove the biggest danger to their ruling corporate oligarchs, unfiltered mass communication. Given the increasingly blatant disregard for constituents and recent "election" of a literal member of the ruling 1%, their long-awaited success against freedom of information is suspiciously timed.

The Apex authority on Internet (TRAI) actually sided with net neutrality and framed rules for fair playing field.

I left LA a couple months ago, and what started out as the best day of my entire life because i got to finally leave that insidious monopoly time warner cable behind, ended with them openly refusing to cancel my account, and then continue to charge me for service i wasn't receiving at an address i no longer lived. Now i'm getting calls from debtors, who lie openly about their intentions, trying to collect on money i don't owe, who now shamelessly threaten my credit for a service i still can't cancel. How the f*ck is any of this even legal?

i have a lawyer and he's currently busy suing other corporations for kidnapping, false imprisonment, and human slavery. companies just do whatever they want now because they got teams of lawyers and judges in their pocket. We've already spent 5 years suing these companies for an unconscionable recreation of nazi germany that any sane jury would convict... (if we ever finally get to go to trial) i know people who have been hurt by those companies who still haven't found recourse after ten years. How the hell is going up against a monopoly like time warner over unfair charges and practices going to fare any better?

@@SS-dm5iy haven't you thought of anyone but yourself for once? I'm glad to hear you are listening to what you like, but what happens when someone else, let's just say your neighbor get hit with this censorship stuff, what then? Do you consider yourself wrong at that point, or still believe that your right because it hasn't happened to you? When people say "be your own independent self," they didn't mean for you to disregard others and their person. Be an individual in a community. It's a balancing action, too much into your community and you lose your self of individuality. However, too much individual into self leave you isolated from what is happening. Insulting people doesn't help anyone's case: their side or your side; even if it was deserving or not. To insult the other side (i.e. on the grounds of their mental capacity) proves to the audience that the insulter doesn't have evidence to use against, if you can't win by facts and reasoning, hey, let's insult them.

A government takeover and the rules being made by facebook, youtube, and netflix IS a HUGE FUCKING problem.....as they are the ones that do censor.
How can you not see how completely backwards you are on the issue blows my mind. You are demanding ISPs lose control over their property (who DO NOT censor) and that power and control is given to governments and companies that DO censor.
You people are batshit fucking insane.....or stupid. It is only one or the other. If you can't use basic common sense to figure this out, I'm not worried about "bringing you to my side". You already willingly choose to be subject yourself to propaganda and believe it. There is no help.

Good news for those of us in the UK. Due to the fact that, unlike the US, we don't have monopolies (as we have laws preventing such things), we have many ISPs that wouldn't dare to do anything stupid as it may cost them customers. ISPs want to keep you as a customer and will even lower prices if it means keeping you. This vote still has the potential to affect us, but its not that likely.

It is to be ashamed of when you call yourself the richest, most powerful country/empire in human history.

This wasn’t really a jab at Estonia, as it is to America. It’s pretty much “ironic humor “

We'll be here *at least* every year as long as the internet exists. The government needs to put their hands in every facet of this country... just kidding, the world. They're like a scummy growth, and the only thing stopping them from spreading is our votes... repeatedly. Fun!

Because Republicans are all about letting their corporate donors have the power to charge us more for less as corporations are legally mandated to do. Never vote for people who don't believe in government. Those are the ones who sabotage it and cost us our money, families, and lives. Corporations are vampires. Everyone of them yet we have to depend on them for our food, healthcare, and basic necessities. This is what happens when you remove the last of the light from each government agency that was holding them back from overfeeding. Going to be a lot big fat vampires around. I don't have TV service because its too expensive. Haven't for years and it looks like the internet service is the next drop for me.

Because we can't do it right the first time, or the second, or the third, ... and so fourth prepare for an endless roller coaster of bitting your finger nails because someone decided to attack net neutrality, again.
