I doubt anyone will even see this, but I wanted to comment because this episode was mentioned in my Public Administration textbook. Specifically, it used it as an example of when public participation in the rulemaking process can cause problems for federal bureaucratic agencies. In this case, the FCC website allowed people to publicly post commentary on the net neutrality rule, commentary which it would supposedly take into consideration before the rule's final preparation. However, reviewing and analyzing these comments (which agencies must do), let alone responding to them (which agencies often do), became difficult after the airing of this episode because of the millions of comments that flooded the FCC's website. TLDR: Was reading my textbook today and out of nowhere they casually mentioned LWT. I needed a minute.
It turns out most government is really bad because it does not permit or does not handle well any public participation. The processes they use are extensively bureaucratic to dissuade any public participation. If you want to see another kind of tampering, check out the "Diebold Memos" where they talk about how to change the votes using Microsoft Access targeting the voting machines they made - with no password required. i have been involved in politics from a technology standpoint. I have also been involved in the technology of government once or twice, and it is sad to see how trapped a lot of otherwise decent human beings feel.
No one gets as involved as internet trolls/hackers etc.. you don't mess with them it's their whole poupous in life they can hack, Ddos. take down government sites or just make a program that send 1000 e-mails every second using randomly picked words but still make sense. Government couldn't pick a worse enemy than people that are good at hacking and dedicated because you came after what they love, what wouldn't you do for the things you love.
There are worse reasons or sillier reasons for government websites to crash than comments on regulatory proposals. Like how that during the US election in 2016, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada's website crashed because of Americans trying to move to Canada! Canada may want to put a preventive freeze on visa applications from American citizens during the first week of November on US election years to protect their web systems!
This is exactly why you can't be beholden to a political party. If you say you're a staunch republican or democrat, your party will betray you every time. You have to think for yourself and listen to everyone's opinion.
John, for love of fuck, please do another #NetNeutrality video before December 15, 2017. I'm going to try and leave a message/comment for you every fucking place I can because your shit fucking works, and we need your shit to fucking work again, man.
I strongly disagree, been watching NN videos all day, dozens of people are sighting John's support as a reason to oppose NN, both commentators and content creators (ie. ua-cam.com/video/0kkaY5lJLMk/v-deo.html at about 14:50) . He shilled to hard and lost to much credibility, now his activism creates resistance. He needs to shut the fuck up and read a book about quantitative easing so he doesn't piss his reputation away slandering third parties again.
I've watched plenty of videos too, for and against, and read much on the subject. The only people for repealing Net Neutrality are either very misinformed, don't understand it at all, or have a vested interest in fucking over the American populace for the benefit of the big telecoms. Then you have the people who are against NN because they think it's a left or right issue, it is not, it is an issue of freedom of speech, freedom of information. Just as importantly is the freedom to not have a handful of companies controlling what we can and can't access and robbing us blind with micro-transactions to access what we now access for free. The people for destroying Net Neutrality can never show any real examples of how NN is bad, they just say it is, sorry not good enough.
I never said their arguments were valid, just that John's coverage is detrimental to the goal of keeping net neutrality. Giving those people a shill to point at is all they need to believe.
The site www.gofccyourself.com is not blocked, its just SUPER slow to respond. Leave it up and wait for as long as you need till it pops up. If the express button is not responding try right clicking and hitting open in new tab. When filling out the form, try hitting enter or tab for the information to stick. The preceding number and your name should both show up as yellow blocks. Spread the message.

I forget when it was but it was the week after they did a story on Pom, the pomegranate juice people, and they responded with a case of Pom juice for John to shove up his ass or something.
Everyone needs to go leave a comment again now that they’ve proposed legislation and voted 2:1 to do away with Net Neutrality in LESS THAN 30 DAYS! Go to www.gofccyourself.com then hit “express” in the lower right corner, then tell them NOT to mess with our internet! GO NOW!!! (please)! 😱😱😱
it's not only the "virtual data highway", but also clean water, basic transportation & basic banking that became "system relevant" and so they should be deprivatized. ppl dealing with stuff that is necessary for others being able to survive & work, shouldn't be able to make profit out of it; that stuff _has_ to be in gov hands or the market can never become _fair._ and no, THIS kind of deprivatisation is NOT communistic, this is completely the opposite. it's just _also_ NOT capitalfascistic/neoliberal/oliganarchy.
Anyone else watching this during the pandemic... and hearing the audience and it just seems surreal? Almost like watching silent films.... just from another time.....
John & Team - Seriously, thank you for the service you do to this country. It might seem all fun and laughs, but this is the real deal and we have a choice to do something or nothing. I beg you all, if you enjoy your freedoms on this Internet, do something to protect it before it gets completely fucked up by this new administration.
It can easily be deemed a violation of freedom of the press, and several Business law violations, as the internet is an infrastructural product, not a delivery service going on top of infrastructure, you can't provide a guaranteed fast lane without slowing someone else down, you can change priority organization but that is different, that only kicks in when part of a network is overcrowded, as in that case the it is a delivery service the service of the network router that passes the packets of data to and from the internet, this happens all the time and it is an essential function built into the communications protocols from the beginning, as in addition to giving certain business packets local priority and such, it enables government, first responders, medical and emergency services, as well as time sensitive science, to get extremely high priority, but that is priorities on certain origin points, not on the sites themselves, which is what Net Neutrality protects, you cannot lower a packet's priority based on where it is going, that would be like putting speed traps, detours and extraneous cargo inspections on all traffic trying to go to a city but not the next city over,
I'm not a fan of John Oliver but i applaud his efforts to protect Net Neutrality. We need more public figures to speak out on this. If Net Neutrality goes whats next? We cannot allow the FCC/government to regulate our free speech. Apposing net neutrality is downright anti-american/anti-freedom.
fluffycow 1234 I find it funny, really. I hope they do it on a "bring your kids to work" day or have to work openly at home so they'll have to explain this awkwardly: "Daddy, why is that guy rubbing his snake and spraying milk onto that lady's face?" (disclaimer: this is just humor.)
defiy 1174 Agreed & thumbs up! Also, I hope it isn't too late as I just now submitted my entry to the FCC. I did not put my last name or my street number. I don't really think it is an issue that it will "be public" info tho. Just think about how much info on you is already public! Especially if you use FB which I do NOT.
What the FUCK are you talking about? You sat through all of that and understood NOTHING of what was said? Americans... Freedom of speech has fucking NOTHING to do with this and we DO want the government and its regulatory arm in this matter the FCC to actually regulate these companies, that's the entire point. Because without governmental oversight there's no way in hell these companies are gonna act in the best interest of the public and fair market.
I agree with you mostly, (i'm assuming the bulk of your reply was to Jon Gullett). However I do think it has something to do with free speech. The internet is a platform of free speech (at least in the US) and if net-neutrality is no longer a thing, then we will have to pay extra money to isp's to view many forms of content. What if a isp doesn't like the opinion of a certain news site? Without net neutrality they could just throttle the speed to be so slow that it is practically impossible to view. Just a thought/opinion. Also I'm not fond of people who say "Americans..." in a derogatory way, we do not have exclusive rights to idiots, every country has them. Our essentially limitless free speech does tend to encourage the idiots in our country to speak very loudly and often, but its better than having speech regulated. Your free to disagree that's your right, i simply ask for people to be civil in their discussions of personal opinions and policies. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
My fellow forum citizens. Mr. Oliver has called us to battle once more. We spend hours debating if Superman would beat Goku. We spend weeks and years in bitter feuds over if Duncan or Connor was the better MacLeod. We will argue endlessly over the origin of the Klingon head ridges that did not exist in the time of the original Star Trek series. We can call each other racists, we can call each other Nazis, we can call each other vicious insults that in a different century would have resulted in open duels. We will watch more hours of cat videos than any of us will ever spend doing anything decent in the world. Let us band together one final time, follow Emperor Oliver's command and fly once more unto the breach and once more unto victory!
Henry Walsh I'm not sure wether to feel proud or disappointed that ppl are starting to argue over goku and superman, but I shall join under Oliver's banner!
What we really need is an internet blackout. When SOAPA was going to be passed a bunch of companies, including google, basically shut down their websites with a note that read. "This site has been blocked due to SOAPA" About a quarter of the entire internet went dark for a day and you can bet THAT got a lot of people's attention.
Absolutely. The more sites that go down or limit their primary pages with this information before proceeding at a minimum the better. 'Tis a much better thing to have a brief interruption than a permanent insidious destruction due to the ignorance, and/or apathy of the people to act in unanimously uniting to show their will to such a degree that it cannot be ignored, brushed aside, or otherwise disregarded by our government.
John oliver... what you are doing is a very honorable. Making so what is going on in the world and especially in our government is awesome. I don't care what anyone says, you are making the country great. You're bringing the power back to the people and putting the companies and super rich people in check. I bow to you.
I don’t agree with John Oliver very often but I am glad we’re all on the same side about Net Neutrality. Let’s all work together to preserve Net Neutrality!
Dailybantam why on earth would you want the government, which has taken a hands off approach until now, to suddenly get involved and start regulating? The internet didn't get to where it is today with government regulation
James Lee no I didn't. Net neutrality means government regulation aka not a free and open internet. The op is for net neutrality and I commented that net neutrality is bad
just aburner Oh I see what you mean. I was a little confused because you postulated about the government "suddenly getting involved." Net Neutrality has already been established so that doesn't really work.
Realizing the first Net Neutrality video came out 3 years ago is like finding your old yearbook picture. Too much time has gone by and not much accomplished.
Quite the opposite, the first one 3 years ago was successful. But now big companies has a guy in the white house that would undo Obama work whether good or bad just cause, I mean seriously lets look into whether Obama was caught by Trump fucking Ivanka and current wife together seriously. Donald get off Obamas dick u are president now try and do something worthwhile not wage war on all of Obama's policy
Christen Kimbell that's not true...despite what most seem to think, we don't support everything he does. nobody should, no matter who you support politically. no politician can please even their most loyal supporters all the time.
A few weeks ago Congress & Trump passed a bill allowing ISP's to sell your personal info (including Social Security Info), and loosening the requirements on their security requirements. This bill had a 6% approval rating with the American People, yet it passed. They can and will
Chris CS Dude, how is this a shitty law? It literally protects your internet freedom and prevents ISPs from purposefully and maliciously slowing down internet speeds to certain websites. Say you are conservative (which I assume you are with your "pro business" and "free market" stance) and your ISP provider was Verizon. If Verizon wanted to, they could slow down your internet speeds when visiting conservative media websites while speeding up speeds to liberal websites if you were to visit them. Think about what this could entail. This could also result in companies paying off ISPs to slow internet speeds to their competition which actually destroys the free market as it is not the consumer who wins, but rather who ever pays ISPs the most money. And what effect would that have on the small businesses many conservatives claim to care about?
Commandant64 IS RIGHT ! I'M GOIN HARD ON MY STREAM TO INFORM PEOPLE SAVE NET NEUTRALITY CALL CONGRESS FCC EVERYONE WATCH MARKIPLIERS VIDEO HIS INFO IN THE INFO BOX MADE IT EASY FOR ME !!! REMEMBER GUYS WHEN CONGRESS ,PRESIDENT AND EVERYONE STOPS LISTENING TO US (THE PEOPLE THAT THEY WORK FOR!!!!) THEN IT'S TIME FOR A REVOLUTION !!! GRAB UR GUNS. I SEE HACKERS AND BIG BIG ASS PROBLEMS ARISING FOR THE GOVERNMENT IF THEY TRY TO FUCKIN CENSOR US!!! CAUSE THAT IS THE END RESULT IF THIS SHIT PASSES IT ISN'T JUST TO THROTTLE US IT IS TO((((((CENSOR US)))))))))!!! AND THE THEY WILL START THE GUN CONFISCATION WHEN THEY PUT THE TAPE ON OUR MOUTHS ! PLEASE I BEG YOU GUYS ON MY 2 FUCKING KNEES MAKE THE CALLS SEND THE MESSAGES AND MAKE MOVES ON THIS !!! WE MUST KEEP NET NEUTRALITY! !!!!!
I got the FCC on their comment site, FCC's twitter, pai's twitter, both potus and trumps' twitters, my 2 senators and my congressperson both on email and twitter. I just wish I could get more people in power knowing that the public doesn't want the interests of greed over the right of free speech.
You have a right to free speech. You don't have a right to violate other people's property right and ramble on their property. Providers have a right to their property and they have a moral right to offer you their services on specific terms which you are free to agree on or refuse. But you have no right to violate their rights and dictate to them how they should use their property.
Maxime Meis In law there is no Moral right this is why there is so many laws, contracts, judges and juries morals is a value of a person or hopeful a company which when they have none you have to use agencies and committees. Morality is like honor there is no guarantee the other party has any.
TheGovNa Well, when said providers have a monopolistic control over means of access to the Internet, they cannot abuse their domination of the field by disadvantaging their competition through throttling of speed.
The link John provided DOES work if you try it enough times (and pause 10 seconds between reloads). There must be a limit on how many people can access at once. KEEP TRYING! Also, it's clear from the form that they DO NOT want you to give your feedback. YOU MUST DO IT ANYWAY. UPDATE: When you put your info in the boxes, you MUST PRESS ENTER to save that info in the box. It's not difficult but it's misleading at best. Thanks!
benfroggg what do I pay down for "Name(s) of filer(s)" nothing I out seems to work. EDIT: nvm you just have to press enter after you out your name, lol
They made it so you have to actually press enter to keep the info in the boxes. It's really obvious that they don't want average people to figure out how to do it. Glad you made it work!
When the Battle for Net Neutrality is won (hopefully), we need a statue of John Oliver built to forever honor his memory as the man who called upon us to save the Internet.
I'm a buttmad Trump supporting partisan-obsessed conservative who flies into a stroke-inducing rage the very SECOND someone so much as jokingly alludes to Trump not being God's God, but even I think that would do fine. Just fine.
It's hard not to see the FCC website being down as two pronged attack: 1. Deter people who were already barely motivated to type in a URL in the first place from leaving comments through alternative channels. 2. Make it possible to say "OMG THE SITE IS ALREADY DOWN LOL" which makes folks feel like the job is already done and cripples momentum of the movement. Does this sound familiar?
+Nate Darkins Obama appointed him as a republican in the FCC. Which he was required to appoint. He was the republican that the party wanted, massively.
Every corporatist arguement ever: "That doesn't seem to be a widespread issue yet." The truth: "Our goal is to make that a reality without the public having power to stop us."
Looks like the FCC website has already competely blocked these comments, or has simply crashed because government websites are always shit and are expressly designed to make this kind of citizen engagement as difficult as possible. Since I'm technically a member of the news media, I searched through their Labrynth of an automated calling menu, and left a message with their media PR person, asking how this change could possibly serve consumers and expressing my personal displeasure about this effort. This was the only way I could find to actually leave a message that a real person might hear, so if you're really passionate about this, I'd suggest you leave a message with the FCC media relations person, I believe the menu option I used was about consumer complaints. We're all members of the "Press" these days, right?
Jon B Baca they blocked the comments, Asshat Pie stated that the FCC would not be accepting any comments or petitions from citizens, except corporate "citizens", oh, and drumpf stated the White House will be removing their petition page as well, most likely for the remainder of his term... Yeah.. A champion of the forgotten man.. Sure.. He champions for the forgotten man so much, he does everything in his power to champion the man remains forgotten.. =/
Save Net Neutrality,go here goo.gl/XlpCN9 click express fill out info, add comment I Support Strong Net Neutrality backed bt Title ll oversight of ISP's #NetNeutrality
Remember folks, this does not only affect America. It affects the world. Any service/company that is based in America will be able to block services outside of America if YOUR country's providers do not pay for access, or possibly just out of spite. If you (the one reading this) are in another country but you know/play games with any Americans, PLEASE tell them to write and/or call congress/their representative.
Really? So all those sites/videos and whatnot that tell me I can't view it in my country are just a simple misunderstanding? Any company can and WILL limit or block access if they want to or if their government tells them to, UNLESS there are laws in place which counteract that, such as Net Neutrality. Despite its name, American Net Neutrality is NOT about being neutral. Its about making the American based ISPs and other net based companies in the country not play favorites. Please read the act and not a condensed version.
"The more heavily you regulate something the less your going to get." Then why are people so heavily regulated? If the government can tell me whether I can collect rain water or not, then it can tell a huge ass multi-billion dollar company whether it should be able to control the public or not.
Please people, don't forget they have a support email ECFSHelp@fcc.gov ! In fact, here's a nice copy/paste message for their LOVELY support agents to digest: 'Afternoon dear website technician/support agent, It would seem that I am unable to leave a thoughtful comment regarding my support for strong net neutrality backed by title 2 oversight of Internet Service Providers. Whenever I attempt to search for the proceeding number "17-108" that the website ceases to function, instead of seeing 'This is your future now, your internet overlords will choose what works for you.' message that I would prefer to see in a carefully detailed message box provided by your site. I get a non-functioning search button. I don't believe such an error can go unnoticed and would suggest that this is fixed this immediately so that I may continue with my day being, censored on the internet. Thanks Sincerely,
"No worries, we'll regulate ourselves" - pre crash bankers. "No worries, I'll watch the hen house" - the fox. Same old. Can't unsee those thumbs now :/.
Maximillian Dirnfeld is more trusting of private interest than his own government when it boils down to it. Polarizing the 2 against each other isn't the way to go though
Maximillian Dirnfeld You been brainwashed by big companies or what? The government's literally only purpose is to protect their citizen - in this case, from the limitless and reckless greed of big companies causing trouble for the consumer. Competition is good, but an unregulated market will eventually fall into a monopoly.
the government (you absolute moron) doesn't make profits. Companies do. So yeah, your argument isn't simply illogic or wrong, it is in fact bat shit crazy and childish. The government that you are so terrified of consists of people YOU VOTED INTO OFFICE. Why the hell are you voting for people you assume are going to create legislation that will harm you??? Why not... I don't know.... vote for someone who won't screw you?? And why is this rocket science for you? Is it really that hard to understand that our government is made up of Americans... you know, our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, and so on. Why in God's name should we be afraid of them??? Since the government makes no profits, why would our sons, daughters, mothers, etc in the government go out of there way to harm us? WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?!?!
Maximillian Dirnfeld Where is this flawed logic coming from? You can't conclude without basis that governments are fundamentally corrupt. You stated "only people learn" to promote lack of regulation, but a government is run by the people in a democracy... furthermore, you're view is completely irrelevant here because if Obama's regulations were rolled back, ISPs could take advantage of it to inhibit our freedom of enjoying the internet fully. The government, in this case, is effectively protecting the consumer.
EVERYONE, LISTEN HERE: In case you guys are unaware, there was a vote to reinstate Title 2 protections on net neutrality that passed the Senate on may 9th. Internet Neutrality may be dead, but that doesn't mean it won't rise back from the grave. Currently there's a group trying to fight against this bill called the Center of Individual Freedom (CFIF). We need to stand against them, to bring back Net Neutrality. Call your representatives and tell them to support the Pelosi-Doyle CRA. To find out who is your representative in congress, visit this link. www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
Imagine the internet as a jumble of streets and highways, and my internet provider as my car. If i turn down one street and my car starts to move 2mph instead of 60mph, we clearly have a system that is fundamentally fccd.
Actually, no. The point is that roads are equally good. It's not me who is paying extra to get the content delivered to me faster. I don't have a choice. It is up to my ISP. The point is that no traffic goes solely over my ISP's backbone, there are several hops using several different companies' backbones. My ISP only controls my plug to the internet.
Imagine 2 highways, side by side, both in the same condition, but one has a speed limit of 30mph and the other has a speed limit of 90mph. Amazon pays to have all its videos delivered by vans using the fast highway. Amazon's competitor can only afford to use the slow highway. This means that your video from Amazon arrives much sooner and part 2 of that series you want to watch gets delivered before you have finished part 1. Its competitor can't dispatch earlier because it can't carry the stock levels and can't deliver faster - so you have to wait for what seems to you like ages to get part 2. Next time you use Amazon and soon the smaller competitor goes out of business. Hands up who thinks that the little guy will be able to compete for very long. Me too. So the big, the rich and the powerful will get preferential access - which means that their customers will get preferential access and the big and powerful will get bigger and more powerful. And in the absence of other "anti-business" regulations, they will be able to enforce all sorts of other restrictive practices. Suppose that emails from Outlook always arrived faster than those from any other client or web-based platform. There's a password that you always forget. The email with a password reset - if the sender uses Outlook it will arrive almost immediately in an Outlook system. If both parties use some other software you have to wait 30 minutes. That might be a real pain if it's a password you want to use NOW. So after a few times, you say, "Oh, bother (or whatever), I'll just switch to Outlook and I'll email the website and ask them to switch to Outlook too." " For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him." (Luke 19:24)
Yes, its the last mile of wire...Why should they run that fiber to your house? So they can charge you more? Do you want to pay? Sure you do , and let Netflix and Google continue to use 50% of the bandwidth in the United States for free. OR - You can choose and ISP that throttles these guys in favor of their own content - OR maybe they pay the ISP for higher speed delivery to all their customers - OR maybe you choose an ISP that is "net neutral" - equally slow and crappy for all providers. Its called a marketplace with a variety of products for various consumers needs. But you love buying your power from the local utility that charges whatever they like, after they pay off the local PUC for approving the latest rate increase. And the surcharges for the indigent and lifeline universal access and whatever. Let's make the internet like that. Please - The internet is not broken. Please do not fix it.

Remember this is a USA thing only. Other nations can maintain a free and open internet and pull even further ahead of the US. Sad for the US but hopeful for mankind.
It sounds like a US only problem, but don't forget that some of the services you use are based in the US and have to go through these cunts first. If they want to get through at a reasonable speed, they're gonna have to pay. If they have to pay, they're gonna have to use more ads. It's not as bad as actually having to deal with that shit, but nobody wants more ads, and if some portion of people doesn't see them, the website/service might shut down eventually.
VIVA LA REVILUTION, WE MUST FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM, FOR THIS IS WHAT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS FOGHT ENDLESSLY TO ACHIVE WE MUST FIGHT EVEN THE SMALLEST MUST CONTRIBUTE FOR IT IS NOT A FIGHT FOR YOU NOR FOR ME, BUT FOR EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET NOW AND LATER LET US GO FOR THIS WEEK AND THE WEEKS THAT PROCEDE. John Oliver is just another one of those supposed "comedians" spouting off from a supposed holier-than-thou position of supposed moral and supposed intellectual superiority. Him and his followers and the other hosts are all just a big gaggle of kangaroos all tied together, hopping up and down, hither and thither and punching people with words (mostly).
"Beginning on Sunday night at midnight, our analysis reveals that the FCC was subject to multiple distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDos). These were deliberate attempts by external actors to bombard the FCC’s comment system with a high amount of traffic to our commercial cloud host. These actors were not attempting to file comments themselves; rather they made it difficult for legitimate commenters to access and file with the FCC. While the comment system remained up and running the entire time, these DDoS events tied up the servers and prevented them from responding to people attempting to submit comments. We have worked with our commercial partners to address this situation and will continue to monitor developments going forward.” A Press Release on the FCC website
I have never laughed at someone wishing another person death, but today I did it. I don't know if it's the rhyme or the fact that I pictured Ajit Pai reading this while doing one of his responding to mean comments videos.
My letter to the FCC. . "The proposal to modify the Net Neutrality rules is unwanted, unwarranted, and inexcusably irresponsible. Do not modify or reclassify it's position from a Title 2 regulation. It needs to remain Title 2. Private companies should not have the discretion to throttle the speed of information from any source for any arbitrary reason. The internet is a public utility, full stop. Complete and equal access to all information without the influence of a profit motive is a fundamental component to modern society. The proposed rule changes would jeopardize our ability as a society to freely exchange information without fear of censorship from any sector, including public and private. This is the will of the United States of America. Comply."
about 40 years ago, the internet was invented. The nations of the world had the ability to do anything they wanted. We created Net Neutrality to rescue humanity from the greedy governments. We became the greatest champions of peace and progress mankind has ever seen! We did it because we had the knowledge and the moral that made us... We did it, because we... You already know this. ..Look, the FCC decided they were better off without it! They want to tear our communities apart. But look around! Someone has to do something! WE have to do something! We can make a difference! The internet needs us now, more than ever! Are you with me?
We need you John. We need you rally us once more for Net Neutrality III. December 14th approaches and by 2018 when you finally return to us, it will be too late. We need your leadership now.
"The more heavily you regulate something the less of that you're going to get." Ever heard of the great depression? We shut down hard on alcohol and it boomed like hell.
Dear fellow Indian-Americans, shall we make our parents talk to Ajit Pai's parents? Spread the gossip in our community so that his parents tell him to "Honour the family's name" and NOT drown Net Neutrality?
I don't think there's an American pundit/politician/media-whore who could take on the words of a disappointed Indian parent. Our moms and dads should form a Commission To Make Trump Cry.
For anyone wondering what happened to the "ISIS" mobile wallet app, when the ISIS threat began breaking out in 2014, the app changed it's name to "Softcard". However, the app later shut down not long after that, and they ended up selling their assets to Google for them to integrate into Android Pay.
"There is clearly no such search engine as Bing....or maybe there is I don't know. There's really only one way to find out, and that's by Googling it, and that's KINDA the point."
Sorry you'll have to purchase the memes package for $9.99, which also gives you access to goatse. Based on Your History: Unlimited Porn Package, $14.99.
I work 9 hours a day, not including my commute. Every minute of my free time is precious. I still submitted a comment to the FCC before I'd finished the video, and am also forwarding it. Please, if any of you haven't spoken out in favor of Net Neutrality, do so now.
*Headline: Ajit Pai assassinated!* Minutes after the end of net neutrality, a entire gang of people ganged up and assassinated him. The gang members were net users.
I'd think he'd get sued in poverty from school districts who use chrome books, and I'm not sorry if this man gets killed, I feel bad for his kids and wife for being in any kind of relationship with Pai
This guy found the secret to getting meme lord on his side, instead of kissing there ass he roasts them and acknowledge their memes. Well done Sir, well done.
A significant portion of Trump's administration could be summed up to "rolling back something from the Obama administration" and "appointing someone to a position they don't support."
Agustin Barajas ummm I don’t think it’s sarcasm. There are people that blame government agencies for everything even though they know nothing about them. Imo, the FDA may not do enough, but for the most part they do protect us. I feel safe when going to supermarkets. Let’s see if you can do that in China where food is much less regulated
This is what I wrote to FCC: The nature of internet businesses is very different from "brick and mortar". A better car will always be a better car, no matter which road you drive it on. In other words, a consumer will always buy a better car because THEY can then CHOOSE the road to drive it on. For an internet company, you can have the truly best software, but if wouldn’t matter if your competitor owns (or has control over) the infrastructure. It's like a choice between getting a great car that you can only drive on shitty roads, or getting a shitty car that you can drive on great roads. If you offer CAR+ROAD combo (not two separate products that can compete for their own quality), everyone loses because the best businesses and their products are not rewarded for the virtue of being the best. I run an internet company called Virthium. It's a startup company. One of the major challenges is to optimize the software to run fast and most efficiently for the end users. It's hard enough to find resources to do this optimization. The risk of an ISP discrimination would be simply unbearable for technology startups like mine.
I wrote "If you are anything but a corporate shill, you will support preserving Net Neutrality under Title II, i.e. as it exists in it's current form, as I do. Do the right thing."
You forgot to actually mention Title II. With how things are going they could just say "Oh Title I will accomplish what you are saying. Lets do that" So you need to clarify that so that is no question.
congrats John you crashed the FCC website 15 hrs ago and its still dead. You sir are the man
I got on. It's just slow.
the form won't work correctly for me.
Truth it's not working again, at least for me.
chris m I just used it at like 12:30 est and it works fine
Worked just fine for me. Worked twice, actually, because I decided to do it more than once. Too important not to, in my opinion.
For those too busy to type:
Preserve net neutrality and Title II. I specifically support strong net neutrality backed by Title II oversight of ISPs.
Proochoob gracias
Proochoob and
thx mate was looking for this
You, sir, are a most gracious Samaritan and well deserving of the following statement: GIVE THIS MVP A MEDAL/COOKIE/REWARD-OF-YOUR-CHOOSING.
Came to the comments for this. Was not disappointed.
It’s time for Net Neutrality III. Make it happen John.
He will probably do it once he is back on air next February.
Yesssssss
What's next for John; joining Brockhampton?
There isn't much he can do besides talk about it at this point.
Duviere Robinson The more exposure, the better...
Over a year later, and I'm still like "What the fuck, America? and "Damn."
Uh - isn’t that the point !?! Talk about a tone deaf post sheesh 😮
This is exactly why you can't be beholden to a political party. If you say you're a staunch republican or democrat, your party will betray you every time. You have to think for yourself and listen to everyone's opinion.
billiondollardan Exactly. True freedom is taking the nth option that isn't laid out before you.
billiondollardan Why the hell do you think I'm an independent? political parties fuck us all on a daily basis.
I'd vote for Obama a millions times while being disappointed than vote once for a Republican who will work tirelessly to take away our freedoms.
Gotta get rid of the two party system
how about think for yourself only
John, for love of fuck, please do another #NetNeutrality video before December 15, 2017. I'm going to try and leave a message/comment for you every fucking place I can because your shit fucking works, and we need your shit to fucking work again, man.
I agree Norman
Norman Dexter he can't make one. His show is over and won't be back till next year :-/
I strongly disagree, been watching NN videos all day, dozens of people are sighting John's support as a reason to oppose NN, both commentators and content creators (ie. ua-cam.com/video/0kkaY5lJLMk/v-deo.html at about 14:50) .
Life of Pai- How one man fucked up the internet!!

Spread the message.
and that is why I love the internet

Check out episode about FIFA. That's gold :-D
+AbolishedShadow it's strange I'm in France and it's instantaneous
I sincerely cannot believe that 2,615 people watched this and said, "Yeah, I want cable companies to make me their bitch."
I think it's the same people behind the "choke me daddy" tweets.
They're bots, made by the FCC or comcast, etc.

Samantha K: Big money, big screwing. That's the American way.
j0ellyfish Canada should build a wall to keep trump supporters out, and make them pay for it.
GO NOW!!! (please)! 😱😱😱
They are the same thing :/
Come back and do a Net Neutrality III.
Please
During Covid-19, more and more we realize the Internet is not a luxury, but a necessity and should be classified as an utility
Cry’s in Africa
it's not only the "virtual data highway", but also clean water, basic transportation & basic banking that became "system relevant" and so they should be deprivatized. ppl dealing with stuff that is necessary for others being able to survive & work, shouldn't be able to make profit out of it; that stuff _has_ to be in gov hands or the market can never become _fair._
and no, THIS kind of deprivatisation is NOT communistic, this is completely the opposite. it's just _also_ NOT capitalfascistic/neoliberal/oliganarchy.
Anyone else watching this during the pandemic... and hearing the audience and it just seems surreal?
Almost like watching silent films.... just from another time.....
Everything’s a fucking right nowadays
True.

Malifestro *Nods*
The FCC can't take away the Internet like this. We have sites we've worked hard for. THAT's what I call criminal.
You have no fucking idea what you are talking about do you?
EXACTLY
It can easily be deemed a violation of freedom of the press, and several Business law violations, as the internet is an infrastructural product, not a delivery service going on top of infrastructure, you can't provide a guaranteed fast lane without slowing someone else down, you can change priority organization but that is different, that only kicks in when part of a network is overcrowded, as in that case the it is a delivery service the service of the network router that passes the packets of data to and from the internet, this happens all the time and it is an essential function built into the communications protocols from the beginning, as in addition to giving certain business packets local priority and such, it enables government, first responders, medical and emergency services, as well as time sensitive science, to get extremely high priority, but that is priorities on certain origin points, not on the sites themselves, which is what Net Neutrality protects, you cannot lower a packet's priority based on where it is going, that would be like putting speed traps, detours and extraneous cargo inspections on all traffic trying to go to a city but not the next city over,
Holly Parry they don’t give a fuck
Can we still go to there page link please
Jon, you missed a key point. All you had to say was "Who to do you want controlling your porn quality?"
Totally mentioned porn in my comment to the FCC.
Even without porn, the Internet is still a treasure.
Fuck. Quickly everyone get on the site and crash it now
Good point. He did it with dick pics and Mr. Snowden, so why stop there?
oh shit yea
We need you again John Oliver!
John Oliver the hero we need but not the one we deserve
I'm not a fan of John Oliver but i applaud his efforts to protect Net Neutrality. We need more public figures to speak out on this. If Net Neutrality goes whats next? We cannot allow the FCC/government to regulate our free speech. Apposing net neutrality is downright anti-american/anti-freedom.
Indeed48 not to mention bringing America closer to totalitarianism
fluffycow 1234
I find it funny, really. I hope they do it on a "bring your kids to work" day or have to work openly at home so they'll have to explain this awkwardly:
"Daddy, why is that guy rubbing his snake and spraying milk onto that lady's face?"
(disclaimer: this is just humor.)
defiy 1174 Agreed & thumbs up!
HE CRASHED THE WEBSITE AGAIN😂😂😂😂
Vince Dominguez Did he actually XD
Maynor Mejia yes he did
Everyone crashed the website; he pointed out a problem.
Now run along scallywag
He didn't crash it, they disabled it
Not crashed. They disabled direct linking via domain. Go here: www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom-comments-wc-docket-no-17-108

Give this man a cookie for speaking the truth....
Just XxXFELIXxX I agree with 4chan
Blade II tho.
Let us band together one final time, follow Emperor Oliver's command and fly once more unto the breach and once more unto victory!
there is no argue goku stomps on supes lets support this fight now
I mean...kryptonite, am I right? He wouldn't even have to go super saiyan...am I right?
Henry Walsh I'm not sure wether to feel proud or disappointed that ppl are starting to argue over goku and superman, but I shall join under Oliver's banner!
There will be dispute no matter how important is the cause that people are united under.
Just... Let Me Tell You About Homestuck
I dont know wtf you're talking about but it sounds amazing...I'M WITH YOU!
What we really need is an internet blackout. When SOAPA was going to be passed a bunch of companies, including google, basically shut down their websites with a note that read. "This site has been blocked due to SOAPA"
About a quarter of the entire internet went dark for a day and you can bet THAT got a lot of people's attention.
*SOPA
John oliver... what you are doing is a very honorable. Making so what is going on in the world and especially in our government is awesome. I don't care what anyone says, you are making the country great. You're bringing the power back to the people and putting the companies and super rich people in check. I bow to you.
I submitted my comment. I feel like a patriot.
Tristan duck That's because you are!
We're all patriots this day
a patriot of the internet
Tristan duck I submitted my comment, too. I just hope that all our voices will count
+Goblinoid LOL, W!
The internet didn't get to where it is today with government regulation
just aburner you worded that as if the original commenter supported the removal of net neutrality. That's not his position.
James Lee no I didn't. Net neutrality means government regulation aka not a free and open internet. The op is for net neutrality and I commented that net neutrality is bad
just aburner
Oh I see what you mean. I was a little confused because you postulated about the government "suddenly getting involved." Net Neutrality has already been established so that doesn't really work.
James Lee yeah I just meant suddenly as in the last 2 years compared to the internets nearly 40 year history
Gonna need a Net Neutrality III
NET NEUTRALITY IS BACK!!!!!!
Lol nothing changed
Realizing the first Net Neutrality video came out 3 years ago is like finding your old yearbook picture. Too much time has gone by and not much accomplished.
Quite the opposite, the first one 3 years ago was successful. But now big companies has a guy in the white house that would undo Obama work whether good or bad just cause, I mean seriously lets look into whether Obama was caught by Trump fucking Ivanka and current wife together seriously. Donald get off Obamas dick u are president now try and do something worthwhile not wage war on all of Obama's policy
AMERICA IS UNITED ON THIS ISSUE, THEY CAN'T KILL NET NEUTRALITY WHEN WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE!!!!!!
Christen Kimbell that's not true...despite what most seem to think, we don't support everything he does. nobody should, no matter who you support politically. no politician can please even their most loyal supporters all the time.
uhh. I do t support net neutrality to an extent, I like free buisness without government pushing shitty laws to hinder buisness.
Chris CS That's literally the point of the law...
This Pai guy seems like a sociopath, it's like he just googled "things to say and do to make you look funny and relatable"
John's show didn't just help save the internet once, but TWICE!
How
But it's true! The Wolf of Wall Street DIDN'T have any wolves!
MythicTyrant Hello man
No but it did have Margot Robbie. 👌
I was there
True enough.
I find this information helpful.
Wait, what do you put for name of filter though? Your own name? Net Neutrality? Title 2?
It's name of *FILER*. That's you. Put in your own name.
benfroggg Aleta.Bowers
They made it so you have to actually press enter to keep the info in the boxes. It's really obvious that they don't want average people to figure out how to do it. Glad you made it work!
for decades we had a free and open internet... Yeah, my grandparents still get nostalgic about their network coverage in the 60s
Just fine.
It's hard not to see the FCC website being down as two pronged attack:
It’s absolutely absurd how pai got into power at all.
I think you mean WHY. How is easy and boring.
He is a lawyer for Verizon. Then Trump appointed him FCC.
how is it absurd with trump as the president.. i would be surprised if anything good happens for america in the next few years
Obama and Trump, the dude came into power with Obama and then Trump appointed him Chaiman, good luck just blaming Trump on this one.
+Nate Darkins Obama appointed him as a republican in the FCC. Which he was required to appoint. He was the republican that the party wanted, massively.
Every corporatist arguement ever: "That doesn't seem to be a widespread issue yet."
The truth: "Our goal is to make that a reality without the public having power to stop us."
They were blocked because Pai wants to be able to lie, saying they didn't get many comments. This ma is an evil piece of shit.
www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom-comments-wc-docket-no-17-108
Yes we tried that and when we click on the link they provided there we get a blank page.
tl;dr
I think the FCC just disabled the Submit button.
Kisama it doesn't work for me either
Make sure you hit return after putting in filer name rather than just moving onto the next field.
It's working now.

I don't know any american so fuck it why should I care about your freedom.
If you use any American based company this affects you as well.
No they can´t.
Blood Fire Drake also america is disliked by alot of people and would love to see it fall down into a mess.
So sad what the FCC ruled..
its not over yet it still has to go through congress
Trump would not stop them AT ALL
it's simple. WE KILL COMCAST.
Automatic Oversteer No it wasn’t
Keep your government hands off my internet!
"The more heavily you regulate something the less your going to get."
Then why are people so heavily regulated? If the government can tell me whether I can collect rain water or not, then it can tell a huge ass multi-billion dollar company whether it should be able to control the public or not.
Gray Clark it's because you don't have enough money to control the government

Please people, don't forget they have a support email ECFSHelp@fcc.gov ! In fact, here's a nice copy/paste message for their LOVELY support agents to digest:
'Afternoon dear website technician/support agent,
It would seem that I am unable to leave a thoughtful comment regarding my support for strong net neutrality backed by title 2 oversight of Internet Service Providers. Thanks
Sincerely,

Yes, YES! Email and call. Do not forget to CALL 1-888-225-5322.
"No worries, we'll regulate ourselves" - pre crash bankers. "No worries, I'll watch the hen house" - the fox. Same old.
Can't unsee those thumbs now :/.
Don't forget to call the FCC about this: 1-888-225-5322.
"The internet's most savage virgin". Way to go, John. Keep it up.
We need a part 3!!!
no you don't, we are "part 3"
Maybe in the next season
He made one, but it was throttled to oblivion.
dont worry starting today you'll probably get one at the end of the week ;)
EVERYONE, LISTEN HERE:
In case you guys are unaware, there was a vote to reinstate Title 2 protections on net neutrality that passed the Senate on may 9th.

My internet connection dropped while I was watching this video. Coincidence? Hmmm...
Mine dropped right after I filled out the form, but it's been dropping for weeks and my ISP doesn't seem to care. :/
KashiDoll ISPs are thieves
Yes.
:D
@Machete X7 Yep
Mine too. Hmmm...
Imagine the internet as a jumble of streets and highways, and my internet provider as my car. If i turn down one street and my car starts to move 2mph instead of 60mph, we clearly have a system that is fundamentally fccd.
Imagine a poorly maintained government gravel path, or a superhighway you can go as fast as you want, just pay the toll. Free to choose.
Woah. Noice metaphors here, guys. You come off as really prolific, yeah?
So after a few times, you say, "Oh, bother (or whatever), I'll just switch to Outlook and I'll email the website and ask them to switch to Outlook too."
" For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him." (Luke 19:24)
Genuinely love that he Calls OJ Juice like it's an adorable nickname for a friend and not for a murderer

The time has come. The final battle in December is coming. Contact the FCC before it is too late.
Remember this is a USA thing only. Other nations can maintain a free and open internet and pull even further ahead of the US. Sad for the US but hopeful for mankind.
J C Yes master Otaki san. The war will reach the final culmination.
J C they don't care 29 million + people have tried
Contacting the FCC won't do anything because the FCC doesn't care. Contact your senators so that they vote to keep net neutrality.
Oh my god Ajit Pai became a FCC commissioner in 2012...
The Mayan calendar was right!
I typically lean conservative but I 100% agree with John. If this holds through I WONT vote for Trump 2020
Please dont
TB S lol no matter who you vote for... People will get offended, that's why you don't tell em abt it
NO WAY!!! justtellmeifimrelatedtoanazi.com goes straight to the FCC website too!!!! I have so much respect for John Oliver now 3:53

Bad day?
John Oliver is just another one of those supposed "comedians" spouting off from a supposed holier-than-thou position of supposed moral and supposed intellectual superiority. Him and his followers and the other hosts are all just a big gaggle of kangaroos all tied together, hopping up and down, hither and thither and punching people with words (mostly).
Interbots, rollout

"Beginning on Sunday night at midnight, our analysis reveals that the FCC was subject to multiple distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDos). These were deliberate attempts by external actors to bombard the FCC’s comment system with a high amount of traffic to our commercial cloud host. These actors were not attempting to file comments themselves; rather they made it difficult for legitimate commenters to access and file with the FCC. While the comment system remained up and running the entire time, these DDoS events tied up the servers and prevented them from responding to people attempting to submit comments. We have worked with our commercial partners to address this situation and will continue to monitor developments going forward.”
A Press Release on the FCC website
thanks for informing the public. I did what you asked. hopefully it will make a difference.
Ajit Pai should lejit dai
I have never laughed at someone wishing another person death, but today I did it. I don't know if it's the rhyme or the fact that I pictured Ajit Pai reading this while doing one of his responding to mean comments videos.
Sir, I come from 2020 to tell you, your comment is timeless. Thank you.
Sir, you are a legend.
My letter to the FCC.

Comply."

oops.
Well worded, bravo
I stole your paragraph and posted it...like 37 times. I liked it too much. Hope you are ok with that. Thanks by the way.
Awesome paragraph to use. I wasn't sure how I was going to comment but this was perfect

How is this comment 7 months ago
Checking out the comment section, eh? I bet you could be leaving a comment on the FCC page
Miguel Vargas especially all 53* of us so far who've liked your post (the number changed while I was writing this)
I can do both.
Already done my dear sir.
I can't leave a comment. Every time I try to select my state nothing show up but the "Required" option and I can't type anything there.
do we really have to put our address?
"Relative obscurity" - Some lady
about 40 years ago, the internet was invented.
Gupta Boi Hell yeah
holy hyperbole batman, that soapbox just broke.
"Why are we still here?
Just to suffer?"
Exactly. Thank you.
2 years ago we created net neutrality what are you talking about
We need you John. We need you rally us once more for Net Neutrality III. December 14th approaches and by 2018 when you finally return to us, it will be too late. We need your leadership now.
bleodsian1220 BWAHAHAH were too late
Yeah we dun fucked up
It is now November and yes, Trump did ask if he could “un-pardon” the Obama turkeys. Lol Talk about prophetic
Shanna Mae Slight I was thinking that too lmao
"The more heavily you regulate something the less of that you're going to get." Ever heard of the great depression? We shut down hard on alcohol and it boomed like hell.
is the whitehouse at war with liberty and human rights?
why kill civil liberties when they are the corner stone of foundation
Where have you been in the last 17 years?
Lynch85 u r so right, but never on a scale such as this; at least before there was clandestine operations
Big Bird Yes.
Big Bird Yes.
I wish we didn't need a Net Neutrality III video.
honestly i came here hoping to see one
Dear fellow Indian-Americans, shall we make our parents talk to Ajit Pai's parents? Spread the gossip in our community so that his parents tell him to "Honour the family's name" and NOT drown Net Neutrality?
lmfaooo, i think that'll do the trick
I don't think there's an American pundit/politician/media-whore who could take on the words of a disappointed Indian parent. Our moms and dads should form a Commission To Make Trump Cry.
Neha Kapoor haha
Neha Kapoor Pakistanis will join in on this too
Oh, awesome idea! Do it! Do it!
I love this dude. John Oliver God Bless you and thanks for making Europe cool. Long live the queen.
For anyone wondering what happened to the "ISIS" mobile wallet app, when the ISIS threat began breaking out in 2014, the app changed it's name to "Softcard". However, the app later shut down not long after that, and they ended up selling their assets to Google for them to integrate into Android Pay.
MysteryMii215 - Remember ISIS showing up on my Galaxy S3, I thought it was an incredible marketing faux pas!
MysteryMii215 I miss archer when he used to work for ISIS.
they ended up selling it to google, oh the irony

Thank you John! I don’t know who would dislike this video, perhaps it’s people who dislike education and knowledge. But, I thank you.
Only memes can save us now

I work 9 hours a day, not including my commute. Every minute of my free time is precious. I still submitted a comment to the FCC before I'd finished the video, and am also forwarding it. Please, if any of you haven't spoken out in favor of Net Neutrality, do so now.

I could be wrong, but I believe after this video I will have watched every episode of Last Week Tonight on UA-cam
Lol this Pai guy better not show his face in public or a bunch of people are gonna gang up on him because they can't afford internet anymore
Let's do it!!!
*Headline: Ajit Pai assassinated!*
Minutes after the end of net neutrality, a entire gang of people ganged up and assassinated him. The gang members were net users.
why would he need to be in public he just be chillin in his mansion
I'd think he'd get sued in poverty from school districts who use chrome books, and I'm not sorry if this man gets killed, I feel bad for his kids and wife for being in any kind of relationship with Pai
Inzanexx715 yep, more if he wons
This guy found the secret to getting meme lord on his side, instead of kissing there ass he roasts them and acknowledge their memes. Well done Sir, well done.
"We can find bing by GOOGLING it." This guy is actually really good haha.
That's the most basic and repeated joke in the entire video....
92brunod never heard of it to John Oliver said it
"There are no wolves in the movie." 😂😂😂
A significant portion of Trump's administration could be summed up to "rolling back something from the Obama administration" and "appointing someone to a position they don't support."
Bradley Ogilvie Sounds about right.
Hey Ajit. We should also decommission the FDA right? Let the market and people decide for themselves what food is good for them?
Geoffrey Wan yes the FDA does more bad than good. It essentially kills sick people.
Agustin Barajas I hope that's sarcasm too, I really do
Agustin Barajas ummm I don’t think it’s sarcasm. There are people that blame government agencies for everything even though they know nothing about them. Imo, the FDA may not do enough, but for the most part they do protect us. I feel safe when going to supermarkets. Let’s see if you can do that in China where food is much less regulated
This is what I wrote to FCC:
The nature of internet businesses is very different from "brick and mortar".
Aleksey Kozlov copy slam this analogy everywhere.
You forgot to actually mention Title II.
With how things are going they could just say "Oh Title I will accomplish what you are saying. Lets do that"
So you need to clarify that so that is no question.
Pai reminds me of the evil coffee villain from codename kids next door lol
you mean Cuppa Joe? with the yellow suit and the cowboy hat?
lmaoooooo facts
where is the lie
