There was a time when a VETERAN who earned the right to a military funeral with all honors given now is screwed by Congress (Congressional Order on cut backs and also state cutbacks) as a civilian or retired service member serving on the detail as a bugler, was paid by the state fund for veterans. The veteran only gets the BOOM BOX TAPS now played as the last salute played after 3 volleys are fired. As a former bugler on funeral duty for the National Guard of Connecticut and after service I returned to St. Louis, Joined the roster of buglers at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, It's a sin that the family has to make a special request to have a live bugler render TAPS through the funeral director. Or through the National Guard to provide a live bugler, unless there are arrangements made through a local VFW, American Legion Post, or Active Duty Unit that has a Bugler in their ranks, otherwise...the VET gets the Boombox version of taps or the Electronic Bugle.
