Much as I hate competitive Karate for how much of a watered down version of the original it is, it still has some merit

I competed as a junior, but shotokan tournaments, no gloves. It was hard to just even spar with the rules. But you learned to be elusive and more accurate, because you can’t get hit/swept at all if you want to win. And in shotokan rules if you don’t make any effort to defend yourself (don’t see it coming) while getting taken down/hit, you lose a point too, double punishment 😂

This format is designed so that students and people with jobs can compete and carry on their lives without serious damage. Plus the footwork, explosiveness and reflexes of karate athletes are insane.

In karate combat, sport karate fighters are the best. There’s a reason.

My favourite sweeps were the ones displayed in the original Karate Kid beach fight.

Elwyn Hall, George Best, Wayne Otto and Frank Brennan would destroy all these guys.
Brennan wasn't a sweep machine but would punch right through.
    Hall was a Sweep master.
If you guys don't know who they are, look them up.

Some of these takedowns resemble judo takedowns.

@@BlankethPwow, why so angry? Are you 13? If you fight under WKF rules everybody has to fight like this, even kyokushins. What a weird question in a WKF (multi style) competition. There is no single style in this. The question is already wrong lol but I guess you’re the karate expert.

Shotokan, goju ryu and shito ryu. Kyokushin karatè didn’t accept the sportive rules so nowadays it’s a private organization.

You have to look at the referee in the corner to ensure whether that throw is count as 3 point or not.
Raising flag high counted as 3, but if they didn't, no points.

I really wish I could have been doing these techniques and my karate class back in 2011 it would have helped if I would have done it the right way wish I could head to get it back including my karate class the original one I was in just can't believe I wasted and fold away all that time for nothing absolutely nothing stupid thing could have affected my life I know where could oil cuz that's what martial arts is all about I just wish I had a chance to take it back. It was a good movie I don't know if I'm going to get back into but I hope so 🥋😟👍🥋

@@j4armenta my old sensei (now shihan, 9th Dan) can still kick at 80 and still pushes us strong & lightning fast, bless him :) I still get thrown off balance now at 2nd Dan if he catches me off guard and I still bow on the floor in shame :) He does get much slower at sparring (age really beats speed) but we’re still afraid to get close range. He still trains strength and speed against a makiwara at home :) Don’t give up & luck to you!
