Dog bites are far too common across the world. When you own a large breed dog you have a greater responsibility to train your dogs and have them well mannered and in control. I have not seen too many details on this but the fact that these dogs have been accused of attacking other individuals over the past couple months leads me to believe that they are not well trained and precautionary measures were not taken to assure these dogs do not harm anyone going forward resulting in the death of a little boy.
Here is a press release I referred to in the video:
In Edmonton Canada a 11 year old boy was mauled to death by 2 Cane Corsos. Occupants at the south Edmonton residence where an 11-year-old boy was killed by dogs Monday night had received two official dog attack complaints in the past three months.
"In 2024, animal control peace officers responded to two attack complaints isolated to inside the private residence," said communications adviser Christopher Webster.
"One complaint is still under investigation as the officers have yet to receive the relevant evidence to proceed with charges. The other was concluded without charges as the city lacked the evidentiary requirement to proceed with laying charges."
"Animal control said Wednesday the two dogs had been seized and are currently at animal control but would not confirm information from sources that suggests the dogs were intact males of the cane corso breed."

@@erinb58 Pit Bulls make up less than 10% of the dog population. They cause 70% of human deaths and severe disfigurements from dog attacks. These dogs are like huge Pit Bulls on steroids....the only reason we haven't heard that much about them is that there aren't that many up here. Stay tuned!! ps that's why i think ALL dogs should be muzzled if they're out of the owners' houses, or if someone's visitiing. Basket muzzles allow the dog to pant, and no one can yell breed discrimination, or it's not a pittie, it's a boxer mix. Hospital visits for dog bites in ONtario Canada would drop from around 26,000 per year, to just a couple of hundred (there are always crazy ppl who keep dogs that bite them) There's nothing else on planet Earth that would drop hospital visits like that. All the best to you!!

Today it came out the dogs had killed a former roommate's cat, bit that roommate so badly they needed stitches, and hospitalized a woman in February after mauling her. Nobody knows why the dogs were still in the home and not labeled as dangerous. A huge screw up by animal control has cost a child their life.

Honestly animal control in Canada is lax. There’s a dog on the street that I live on that attacked a police officer. It’s jumped out the window multiple times, and been at large. Animal control has done nothing - hasn’t enforced the muzzle order either. It seems to be a “wait until something tragic happens” mentality. It’s sad …..for people who get bitten and also for the dog.

I live in Edmonton, so I know a bit more than the average person. The bigger issue was that dogs weren't properly trained and the boy wasn't a regular in the home. He was visiting a "vacation only Dad" so those dogs did not really know the boy and the boy clearly didn't know how to be with those dogs. The Dad didn't own those dogs either, the roomate owned them. Those dogs weren't socialized with kids and both the Dad & roommate foolishly thought that the boy should be allowed to be with the dogs without an adult there to protect him from the sheer strength of those dogs. Let alone the fact that those dogs are known to be violent in the community with tons of complaints against the owner in regards to those dogs in particular.
I have three dogs under 30 pounds I NEVER leave them alone with my baby or other kids. I highly doubt my dogs would ever hurt a kid (they haven't ever bitten a human or even nipped hard enough to leave a mark), but that doesn't mean I should trust either my dog or a kid to be able to properly read and understand each other.
The Dad was a fool, the roommate is a terrible dog owner, and this was completely preventable using common sense. A little boy is dead because two adults failed to protect him and two dogs are dead because nobody properly trained them.

@@dixiewade8373 Did you even read my post? I stated the boy was innocent. Like wtf are you on about? It doesn't matter if the boy was sleeping or trying to play with the dogs. The dogs weren't properly socialized to be around kids, and no adult should leave kids alone around a dog. Especially not big ass dogs that literally had previously attacked a woman to the point that she had major injuries (broken ribs) as was one of the complaints against the dogs.

Nowhere in this post did they say the boy was at fault. They reality is dog need to be trained and kids need to be taught to be kind and careful around all dogs. Dogs truly don’t attack for no reason usually it’s because they are untrained and don’t feel safe and in turn they are reactive and that’s what caused attacks. No matter what the boy is the victim, his Dad should have kept him away and the owner should have kept his dog away from the boy.

    • @WildKat25
      @WildKat25 Місяць тому +28

@@SomeLibtard Technically, you are half right. There are a couple of different videos of the Dad's statement, and the news cut it up and posted it. The full interview explains that the Dad dropped his son off home, and he quickly went to the corner store to get snacks for both of them. In the 10-15 mins he was gone, the dogs mauled his son to death. The kid entered the home alone, and the dogs mauled him to death after he had closed the door and walked further into the house. Either the dogs saw him as an intruder or something else happened when the son was alone with the dogs. Either way, there is already a previous complaint about the dogs where a woman was attacked by they and suffered some serious injuries (broken ribs are just the main ones reported, but I believe the dogs also broke her arm). The dogs are aggressive to perceived "strangers" and unfortunately, the dogs clearly thought the son being alone (especially as he only visits for vacations) in the house was a "stranger" in their minds. The story is quite the talk right now, and even my husband works with one of the neighbours who lives near those dogs.

I live hear in Canada and this just broke my heart. The issue is the owner not the breed. Look at the small footprint of this shared house with next to nothing for a yard. Those dogs definitely weren't trained well or socialized. We had 3 Rottweilers on acreage and they never barked, growled or bit anyone. We didn't walk them with leashes either! Big dogs need big space with proper training and socialization.

    • @heatherstewart9300

@@simsimsworld I believe it's even beyond just training and socialization in this situation. The dogs were being aggressive towards one another even, a very hostile environment. You can't keep intact dogs TOGETHER like that if there's already hostility, and then add in a "new" person giving attention to one of the dogs, and the dominant dog showing jealousy/dominance. It was a bad situation waiting to happen, just knowing there were previous complaints. Anyone owning, and ESPECIALLY involved in breeding, of ANY kind of dog, particularly large, powerful dogs, should KNOW this kind of stuff already

@@simsimsworld I agree for the mostpart. Dogs need training and exercise, working or not, large or not. If people can compensate by taking their dogs out for lots of extra exercise and training the size of the yard isn't that important. We all want to live out in the country, but realistically most of us can't. So we either have to forego dog ownership or step up our game.

I grew up in a house with big dogs. Shepards and Dobermans. Not only did the dogs listen to my parents, but they were also trained to listen to us. Never were they walked off leash. Our yard perimeter was secured with cinderblock, so they couldn't dig under. My daughter grew up with a pitbull. The dog listened to her since she was a toddler. If the human does not do the work to set the dog up to succeed, the dog will fail. Usually at the expense of an innocent person.

I totally agree with this statement. We have a dog that's genetically close to a wolf and it's constant training, and exercise everyday! Rain, sun, -20° weather, you name it. But it pays off because he's a sweetheart with babies and children. Granted I'm always in the room looking for his ticks because I'm vigilant and hedging my bets but he's seriously the best dog ever. We've trained him so well, he won't react. It's possible and people who don't take owning a dog seriously would be better with a cat. Dogs are work, especially the more aggressive breeds. It’s shocking and horrific, as a mother I cannot imagine the pain. This happened in the uk several times over the last couple of years and they have now banned the breed responsible, all these dogs now have to be registered, neutered and muzzled. Thousands were euthanised as landlords banned them. I truly hate the owners who can’t be bothered to train, can’t be bothered to research a breed and then just abandon the dogs when things get difficult.
I’m very worried as the owner of Rottweilers that a blanket ban of all large breed dogs will become law soon, and yet every time I take my very well trained dog out, he is attacked by smaller dogs…..but if he retaliates he will be blamed.
This is a very serious time for ALL dog owners, we need to improve and protect our dogs.

I live in Edmonton and I wanted to compliment you on the way you shared the news on this incident and your message to dog owners. I own a rottweiler and very much agree that dog owners need to be respectful of the fact that their dog could hurt someone if put in the wrong circumstances. Training is a full time thing at my home, and because of that my dog is sweet and well mannered, and I hate that everyone says that about their dogs. My sweet dog has also hurt someone who was trying to mug me on a late night walk. She was doing her job and protecting me, and the moment I yelled at her to stop, she did thankfully. My point is that as sweet and loving as our dogs may be, if placed in certain situations, have it in them to be dangerous and dog owners should never sleep on this fact. Be vigilant with your dog and always ensure that they know who’s in charge and be responsible and respectful of others in your home by taking precautions to ensure their safety because your dog may not react kindly to visitors. My thoughts and prayers are with this child’s family and loved ones, lets let this horrible incident be a reminder to all dog owners to never stop learning and let training our pets become a lifestyle for the sake of our dogs as well as others.

Cane's are like huge Pit Bulls...the difference is that Pits usually go for creatures smaller than themselves....Cane Corso's go for EVERYthing. Whoever let those dogs live after TWO attack incidents should go to prison along with Dad and the room mate. Bully breeds tend to go after small screaming creatures. If ALL dogs had to wear muzzles when they were outside their house, the dog bite hospital visits in ONt would drop from 26,000 per year to a couple of hundred. I lost my cane Corso last year in September. It was a life altering experience to say the least Claymore was so much more than another dog to me, he’s seen the highs and lows from when I first got him at six weeks old to 12 1/2 years later. We went from a studio, to an apartment, a House, to being roommates in someone else’s house to homeless living in my van and motels, regrouping and getting another House to truly call home. We’ve been good ever since, extremely thankful that he got to have a Home again before he passed and be around all his love ones. i’ll be the first to tell you it wasn’t always sunshine. There was a lot of rain, but we helped each other maintain and he was more than a couple handfuls at times, a big heart and such a gentleman, sensitive and gentle, powerful and even destructive if not wielded with purpose. When we were homeless or living with others as roommates it took a lot more work with him because he knew me and felt my defensiveness at times he fed off of my energy so he knew we were in sketchy places always having to be on point, especially when we were living in my van. He’s the greatest right hand man and friend, brother Son all in one anyone can have, and best of all he was the greatest protector of my children. He would’ve never hurt them, and he never did. I’m so sorry for these people’s loss to another man’s dogs. My daughter and sons used to ride on his back when they were babys like a horse. Once when my daughter was just a baby, barely walking, Somehow she managed to make her way to the the stairs. I don’t know if it was me or her mother, but one of us or both of us weren’t paying attention, and she was at the top of the staircase, contemplating going down down, but Claymore was at the bottom and he wasn’t haven it, he started barking loud making a lot of noise not only to alarm us that she was in danger but to back her up safely away from the steps… I came rushing over and at first I thought he scared her so I shooed him away but I quickly realized he was the hero I already knew he was. We tend to take people and things for granted until they’re gone. He was marvelous he fought hard to stick around as long as he could he would shake that shit off and keep trucking he kept eating He kept going out to potty. an ultimate a loss. We had a good run though. Rest easy bub.

@heatherstewart9300 MY brother owns a male Belgian Malinois. He is trained, socialized, and generally loves people but they were bred for a purpose. They are also very much attached to their owner. I watched my brother's Belgian occasionally for short periods of time while they went to a movie or out to dinner from the time he was a year old until a month before he turned two. I also would hang out with his dog while he remodeled his house. Shortly before Christmas I was watching him and my brother was going to some event and he and his wife were gone most of the day. We think maybe the neighbor's dog was in heat because he was not acting like his usual playful self. I was taking a nighttime glow collar off him when he suddenly growled, grabbed my hand and bit me. It did require a trip to the emergency room and a bone was broken in my hand. It was not exactly a dog attack because he let go and he was lying down when I decided to wait outside for my brother and give the dog some space. Also my hand was bleeding and I did not want to get blood everywhere. We were not sure if he was resource guarding, upset because my brother and his wife were gone most of the day, the neighbor's dog in heat, the changing seasons and he could not be out as long or a combination of things. My brother is his ALPHA and he is with him most of the time. He is fond of his wife who also trains him. They can have stacked on stresses according to trainers. He has always been very affectionate towards me and he still is very excited and affectionate when he sees me. He does wear an e-collar. It is possible he did not know which collar I was taking off. My brother is the only one who can remove his e-collar. He does know he did wrong. I also babied him a lot and did not establish firm leadership with him which is important with certain breeds.

The dog is only savages because the dog is the reflection of the owner personality. If dogs are shtty most likely the owner has shitty personality too.
I had one time where i was walking to work and this dog come running at me full speed and dog bump into me. It is a huge labrador. All the way from my waistline an im 5'2. Obviously i didnt pet him but he was wagging his tail and all.. nah uhh , not petting someone else dog.

It's not the dog I think but mostly the owner and not having proper training and control of the dog. Also, I don't think kids should ever be left alone with any large breed dogs because you never know what will make them react badly. Any dog can hurt or kill someone unless you have one of those lap dogs. Leaving a dog of this sizer and breed alone with a child is like leaving them alone with a loaded gun.

Good man. Good dogs. This is heart wrenching. God bless that child. I have a Jack Russell. People say ‘He’s so cute.” My response is “He is, until he’s not.” Dogs are man’s best friend, BUT they are not our species. My terrier is small, but we’ve had serious incidents…my dog and I. I’ve made mistakes just by not understanding his breed. He’s bred to kill vermin-so he’s fast and a little bloodthirsty. I’m invested in training my dog everyday. I love my dog, he’s my pal, and I owe it to him and my friends, family and grandson. Respect these animals, their Family is Canine. Peace and comfort to the family 🙏🏻.

As dog owners it is OUR job to help our dogs understand and navigate their existence as potentially wild animals in a modern technical age which is totally contrary to their instincts and natures. It is our job to see their triggers and help them to interact with an alien lifestyle.......living in concrete houses, small gardens and/or locked in for hours and hours each day. I feel so sad for the boy that died but really it is the adults in this situation who failed to take responsibility for his safety and welfare. The dogs needed training exercise and an outlet for their huge strength and energy which was obviously denied to them. Many people should never have animals if they cannot understand their needs and natures and advocate for them.

Thank you Jason for this intelligent conversation. Time and time again i am witness to dogs being in charge, with clueless "gardians". Have had dogs my entire life. They are my best friends. First thing bright and early each day, i care for the critters. Don't get my first coffee until everyone is fed and watered. They are a fulltime responsibility, Love them dearly. When 5 o'clock strikes...they demand supper. I don't need a watch in retirement, they are accurate. My heart goes out to the Mom. Her pain must be unbearable. 💗💗💗

The mistake people make is thinking dogs are 100% safe, especially around kids. Dogs are predators, as well as being animals who react by biting (Instead of humans who use words, or perhaps fists...but hopefully have the ability to think first unlike dogs). And clearly there are breed differences as dogs were bred for certain behaviors, but even Labradors have killed, albeit much rarer considering how widespread they are. A chihuahua got startled and accidentally bit his owners nose off. A husky killed a newborn by trying to pick it up by the head...probably not intending harm. I would never trust a dog around a small kid or baby especially unsupervised, and even more so for certain breeds. I think many of us think that just because something has not happened yet, it never will....this is false sense of security. Pit bulls are very loving dogs, more so than other breeds, until their prey drive kicks in one day.

I have had pit bulls and rotties for over 40 years and I cannot tell you the countless hours of training I put in, but the results were and still are ( I still have a pack of 5 ) calm, respectful, obedient, stable dogs. I've never had a bite incident, thankfully. But thanks again for stating the importance of training.
