Nah. Cassano had comparable talent to Baggio, but his personality, choices and lifestyle prevented him from ever reaching his full potential. If Cassano has comparable amount of talent to Baggio then there is still another tier above them two which is where players like Pirlo and Maldini are. Not in terms of whole career, I get that, but the best Italian player I've seen in my life was Roberto Baggio around the 94 World Cup era. He was mythical.
Indeed, here in Italy there's always something mystic about the figure of Baggio. Despite the injures that hindered somehow his career, he manage to be among the gods in the pantheon of football. His whole story, both glorious and sad career, was often associated with the term "romantic football", recalling a time long gone in terms of quality and men in Italian Football. There's an old Italian song of the early 2000 that says: "Since Baggio doesn't play, it's not Sunday anymore"

The best has got to be Roberto Baggio. I get it that Maldini is Mr Consistent and rock solid at the back even as a left back. However Baggio was a talent bar none. Roberto Baggio. The 1994 Pony tail hero of the world cup. I still remember in the news with the title " Roberto Baggio bag full of tricks"
K but he’s not better than Maldini or Buffon. He’s on the same tier with ppl like baresi, Cannavaro, nesta
@@kdme1657 Yes Maldini is the best in defense of all time and buffon is the one of the best goal keeper in the world. I remember in 1990 the Italians lost in the Semi Final in the penalty shootout. That was a disappointed world cup. When we eagerly waited for the next world cup 1994 here comes the Roberto baggio. He showed his tremendous skills to take Italy to the final in 1994. He struggled with hamstring injury and fought till the last minute against Brazil.

Baggio, absolutely without any competition - he is also among the 5 the best players, in the whole world, ever!!
Fabio Cannavaro, only defender to be crowned world best player, led Italy to the 2006 FIFA world cup. Nuff said.
Franz Beckebauer won 2 Ballon d'Ors
The question was who is the greatest italian footballer of all time and last time I checked, Franz Beckenbauer(RIP) was not Italian.@@amooolusina6978
Pirlo was a baller
He’s my favorite Italian. He also looks like my uncle from Canada. We convinced my sister (for 2 mins) that Uncle Rob was playing in the champions league 😂
@@TheJawRawOh my god. 😂😂😂
Yes but not the great(est).
Now his dickriders. Dont get me wrong. He was elite
He’s not the best, wouldn’t even say top 3
Baggio was probably the most technical and magical player. I was a joy to watch him play in the 90's. Unfortunately, he was haunted by a lot of severe injuries. I have a lot of praise for the great Italian defenders, but they are no contender for the greatest Italian player.
Same, Italian defenders in general are legendary. but The Divine Ponytail was a mythical beast of legends...... a fekkin unicorn!! ❤
Roberto Baggio was better than Del Piero for me technically more gifted.
@@caesarroe1283 assolutamente! Per la maggioranza degli italiani Roberto Baggio è stato il più grande giocatore della storia del calcio italiano. Nessun giocatore è stato amato quanto Baggio. Maldini sicuramente meriterebbe il podio.
Baggio/Totti. Baggio more of a second striker, totti in his prime a unique playmaker. Both a level or more above De Piero who was also excellent tbf.
@@ThisisArtSoitis nah Delpiero suck, at his begining he tried to mimic Baggio style, in this interview, he forget his master, what a shame!
Of course Roberto Baggio. His greatness as a football player is nowadays so underrated. It's sad because he seemed also a nice human being.
Italy is known for having the best defenses in the past, that's why I choose Maldini.
Roberto Baggio..🔥🇮🇹 italian Goat
He missed though, so 🤷♂️
No Delpiero 🔥🔥

Roberto Baggio was the best Italian player ever. The guy was special.
Maldini once said after a European game against an English club, two England players came to the Milan dressing room to ask if he could sign their shirts. Maldini never revealed who they were but it is an example of the respect he commanded.
As an Italian, Roberto Baggio is the greatest football player and talent Italy has ever seen
Roberto Baggio...guy was genius 😊😊😊
Thierry’s flicker smile is so funny,
When he said “salsa in Italian, it’s all coming back.”
To this day, I have no idea how he does that lmao

Agree about Maldini. The greatest defender of all time. The amount of trophies he won, the great teams he played in, his longevity playing at the highest level until over 40 and I never saw him make a mistake. He was hardly ever beaten 1 v 1.
Pirlo, Maldini, Scirea, Baresi, Bergomi, Gentile, Mazzola, Riva, Piola, Facchetti Meazza, Rivera, Baggio.. the old players from the 1940s that died in a plane crash were legends in pro football at the time.
Baggio made football look beautiful.
Totti was far better but injury and arrogance cost him.
I was 6 years old in 1994 and and 94 World Cup was my first memory of football and my favorite player was Baggio I was so classy that even a 6 year old could understand the beauty of his game. Amazing player I became a Juve fan because of him.
@@ahmedzakikhan7639 Injury cost Totti and not Baggio?! 🙄 Baggio had his career cut short to injury, Totti played a lifetime for Roma. Totti was beautiful to watch, but isn't in the conversation alongside Baggio.
@DTAAFE local league football don't matter much. Totti could have been the star player in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup but got had injury/referee issues in both.
He would have been big had he gone to Real Madrid.

Could have been/Would of been.
Baggio was a star wherever he went, even at Brescia, after 3 ACL injuries.
If you asked Totti, he would probably say Baggio.
Roberto Baggio even after serious knee surgeries was still way way the best Italian player for me.
Baresi was Maldini and Nesta together that’s how good he was of a defender!
Bergomi and Baresi made them win the 1982 World Cup!
Maldini was good for Italy but better for Milan, Baresi was good for Milan and great for Italy.

Baggio...you forgot those years on the 90's that italians entered in panic if Baggio was not available to play?
Most elegant player i had ever seen in pitch...
So many! Maldini, the divine ponytail himself, Baggio, Pirlo, of course Baresi, Buffon, I think for me it's interesting that so many players from so many positions can stake a solid claim.
Undoubtedly Baggio. Simply the greatest Italian footballer ever, played with one damn knee his entire career, and carried Italy to the final in 94, and won a Ballon d'Or. All because of a stupid penalty miss, which keep in mind, was the FIRST penalty he missed out of almost 100, his greatness was forgotten.
The disrespect to Roberto Baggio. I’m from 1993 so I never saw him live but I’ve fallen in love with his play just watching old clips and learning his story with injuries and setbacks with coaches. Amazing player
They have to pick one name, how is it disrespect not to pick him?
If they had picked him, would it then be disrespect towards Maldini or Baresi?
Even Maldini and Baresi they're talking about said no Italian player could be compared to Baggio in the whole Italian football history.
Crazy overrated
@@spark556 Baggio overrated?? You must be a complete and perfect foolish guy. Do you even know who you are talking about?? So you call a ballon d'or an overrated player? No really I'm sure 100% that you are a perfect fool.
Opinion based on clips and stories lol 😂
Maldini
I feel Buffon needs to be given a mention too. Hard to compare players from different positions but both played at such an outstanding level for 20 years+
Why not Cannavaro
Franko barezi c'est un grand défenseur c'est rare de trouver
Un joueur comme lui .
I'm surpried at Del Piero can speak English very well.
Because had he played in Australia?
Roberto Baggio is the greatest most talented & most gifted player Italy has ever produced.
One of the greatest players of all time. Il divine codino
What a load of shit‼️
Nah. Cassano had comparable talent to Baggio, but his personality, choices and lifestyle prevented him from ever reaching his full potential. If Cassano has comparable amount of talent to Baggio then there is still another tier above them two which is where players like Pirlo and Maldini are.
Greatness is something that makes you shine and overcome odds (think Muhammad Ali or Michael Jordan) and Baggio doesn't have that.
What you said would be like saying Kaka was the greatest Brazilian ever
Del Piero's won the best of the all imp. Trophies

Del Piero for me, that was my era and he was generational

Buffon
Pirlo, Buffon Nesta
Buffon tbh
Proof that Italy is indeed one of the great temples of football legends, alongside the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany and France
For his tallent you could say Baggio
But for his outstanding career, for his professionalism, for his sportsmanship, for his loyalty - Paolo Maldini!
maldini was also very talented tho, the best defender of all time
I agree with Del Piero
Too many greats, each eta had stars and incredible players
Henry is such a fun figure to watch
I was 6 years old in 1994 and and 94 World Cup was my first memory of football and my favorite player was Baggio I was so classy that even a 6 year old could understand the beauty of his game. Amazing player I became a Juve fan because of him.
that dude was the maradona of Europe.. witnessed him as a kid doing football in his bet way
in terms of skills either Baggio or Nesta
Giuseppe Meazza is a possible answer too I think. Italys key player as they won 2 World Cups. Had Mussolini dancing the tango all the way into Greece 😂

The best has got to be Roberto Baggio. I get it that Maldini is Mr Consistent and rock solid at the back even as a left back.
However Baggio was a talent bar none. He is the ultimate Italian Number 10. Playmaker, Striker and prolific goal scorer.
In World Cup 94, he carried Italy on his shoulders to the final, in a team that relied heavily on him to score.
